As of now, Chun says not restrictions on tailgating and he’s looking forward to seeing a full student section (assuming they stick around). Sounds like there was a record crowd at the soccer game last night so maybe people are itching to get to a live event and support the Cougs.

Personally I am much less excited for this season to start then I normally am For a variety of reasons. I haven’t been able to spend much time at the lake this year so I’ll probably be a game day decision, especially with the 7:30 start time. I also paid for my tickets last year so it will feel less like I’m wasting my money if I don’t go.

I’m guessing real butts in the seat of about 22K.

Total crapshoot this year. I’d expect student section to be pretty damn full you can’t expect students will want to scurry home for the holiday after they’ve been stuck there the last two years. That part of the stadium should be like Woodstock. Tough to say w alums. I’d be there for sure but I have a family thing my parents set up. I’m itching to see games live and even going to hawks Broncos preseason game because of it. Hopeful there will be enough people jonesing for a live FB game that we get a good crowd.

Make it 22,001 or 22,002, (assuming you're out of the dog house)! It's been exactly 60 years since we've played these guys! 1961 to be exact.

Now, if you're going to the lake, blow off the Vikings, because you're certainly not going to miss BYU, since they'll 've never played in Pullman before.

You'll be shocked at how the perceived risk of covid adversely affects attendance. Especially if they allow those damned dirty unvaxxed people in.

If stadium security can't prevent booze from coming into the Stadium, what about that pesky virus?

Will there be on-site testing of projectile vomit for COVID?

Coug fans always have excuses not to attend Labor Day home games. COVID makes it even easier. I’ll be shocked if the students fill their section.

After attending Arkansas Razorbacks, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Kansas State Wildcats games for the past 50 years, I will attend my first Washington State Cougars game on Saturday. We bought season tickets for the Cougs after moving from Manhattan, KS to Spokane. We had season tickets at K-State for 35 years. We already have our Wazzu shirts.

Welcome! Happy that you're here!

Be sure to visit The Hollingbery Fieldhouse at least 2 hours prior to the game.

If you haven't heard already, there's a well known legendary Creamery on campus called Ferninand's Ice Cream Shoppe featuring amazing cheese and the most incredible award winning "Huckleberry Ripple" ice cream. Even if you're avoiding sugar.....Huckleberry won the # 1 spot in a national competition ice cream contest, three years in a row. The flavor is just unreal.

If you arrive in Pullman early....hit Ferninand's first, then hit the Fieldhouse before the game.

Ferninand's hours:
  • 9/4/21 – Utah State: 1pm – 6pm
  • 9/11/21 – Portland State: 11am – 3pm
  • 9/18/21 – USC: 9am – 12:30pm

Welcome to the Northwest and your excellent choice to be a family of Cougs!
My mom's side is from Hutchinson/Topeka/Witchita. My dad's side (and I) hail from Izard County Arkansas.
You'll enjoy game day in Pullman and as MI said above, check out Ferdinand's and the Field House...you'll enjoy both!
Go Cougs!

Thanks for the welcome. We will definitely check out Ferdinand 's and the Field House. K-State also had a famous on-campus creamery called Call Hall Creamery. I appreciate the tips.

Wow, it is a small world. We are next door neighbors because I grew up in Independence County, AR, which is next to Izard County. My wife grew up in Lawrence County. We both have degrees from the University of Arkansas. We both retired from the faculty at K-State. We are looking forward to the Coug games. Go Cougs!

please don't judge all of Coug nation by this message board. despite the appearance of most of the posters being pedantic a-holes, Coug nation as a whole is fantastic. Also, please avoid the fb group "Die hard cougs" - the diatribe there makes this board look like a church sermon.

We should discuss the tattoos you are getting.... Of course, you will need to prove your allegiance in the RV lot by chugging yucca. And then dancing.

You'll find a good number of folks up here with Arkansas roots. Before there were Hispanic migrant workers there were Arkys and Okeys. And as is often the case people from certain regions tended to settle in the same area. The Arkeys stayed and eventually bought up all the orchards in North Central Washington (Wenatchee area where I'm from) and the Okeys went back home. There are several generations of Izard County people still in the Wenatchee valley. Matter of fact, before my sister married her husband both sets of parents sat down and discussed their respective genealogy just to be safe...he having Izard County roots as well!
At any rate, hope to run into you and yours one of these days in Pullman!
Edit...btw, I was born in Batesville and lived in the Melbourne/Mt Pleasant/Stella area.

The company that I work for is based in North Little Rock. Good people running the show.

One more suggestion... before the snow flies take the opportunity to traverse the North Cascade Highway. If there's ever an opportunity to utter the words "we're not in Kansas anymore", that would be it!

whoever made and/or makes a prop bet on the attendance in Pullman is depraved.
I wouldn't touch that prop bet, at all. Just crazy you can bet on these types of things. Although, I don't know why I should be surprised as you can bet on the length of a SB halftime show, etc.

I had no clue about the number of people with Arkansas roots in Washington. My dad was one of the Arkies who traveled to California during the Great Depression to work on farms. He eventually returned to Arkansas. I will have to check out the Wenatchee Valley sometime. Thanks for the tip. I was also born in Batesville and grew up near Pleasant Plains. We used to play Melbourne and Mt. Pleasant in basketball and baseball. There was no football - Pleasant Plains was too small to field a team.

We hope to run on to you at one of the games in Pullman. Based on attendance predictions, it should be easy to find each other. I will the fan in the crimson Wazzu t-shirt and hat. :)

Well, historically Labor Day has been a bust for Cougar Football.
The next weekend is the Palouse Empire Fair, also no bueno.
From then on out, it is either too weak of an opponent, or too cold, until we get to conference play. At that point, if we don't have more than one loss, we might have a pretty decent crowd.

This year with COVID, it will be a bigger challenge of course. Although many on this board want to blame policies, masks and politicians, the actual reason is THE VIRUS. Until people feel safe and comfortable in large crowds, they will stay home.

On the other hand, don’t be surprised when they are. You’re not in Kansas any more.

FWIW, I can usually sell my Lot 1 RV passes in one day, but I haven't been able sell the USU or Portland State passes thus far. I'm attending the Utah State game this weekend, so we'll see how the crowd is. I can't make the PSU game though, unfortunately.

We have 3-straight home games in both September and October, which is always challenging in Pullman; but with COVID and all of the things associated with travel right now, it's going to be crushing for attendance this season. We'll have good crowds for USC, Oregon State, and Stanford and homecoming. The rest of the games are gonna be lame.

I wish they were playing P State first for the Holiday weekend game.
