Nice win especially after lay-off. Was surprised they were as sharp as they were. Shooting not that good but defense was solid. Outrebounded Utah by 10 and only 10 TO vs Utah's 19.

Fun game to watch. WSU controlled the game. They still go through stretches where the ball doesn't fall. But, they don't last as long in the past few games. They team still play hard defense, and several times they were on the floor after loose balls. The team is now tied for fifth in the P12 at 4-3. Next up CU on Sunday, who play in Seattle tomorrow.

The lack of interest in the MBB team is surprising. Kind of. Not really.

Glad they won, but they are really hard to follow because you never know which team is going to show up.
There was a pretty solid interest before the season started but all the close losses and playing below potential has been frustrating. I feel like if they could have pulled off the win vs USC it would be a completely different season.

I was glad to see Jakimovski start, do well, and get extended playing time. I have felt this was long overdue--one of Smith's few miscalculations regarding the line-up. Andrej has a maturity to his game that too few others have, and need. He is a stabilizing force, our best shooter, improving on his drive to the basket and a solid rebounder-defender.

I also think the disruption of the schedule and cancellation of several games has had an effect on fans following the team. Going more than a week without playing in the heart of the conference schedule tends to break any sustained interest a bit for some fans. When I see that a game is coming up, my first thought is "will they actually play the game?".

Happy for the victory. Hoping for a winning streak and a chance at the upper 3rd of the conference.

Glad Cougar

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't know the game was on until right before tip off. With the almost two-week break, it is harder to get in the rhythm of watching games.

I typically will look up game times and set the DVR even when I am positive I can watch the game live. Its been more difficult during the pandemic to remember to do so after a week of cancellations. Almost spaced off yesterdays game entirely. After running some errands and making dinner I realized it was mid-week and asked Alexia when "Washington State University" (to her WSU is still Wichita even though Amazon is based in Washington, I live in Washington and I know "she" knows way too much about me, but i digress) MBB team plays next. Luckily I asked during halftime so I was able to watch the second half. Really like what I saw thought the last few minute Williams resorted to trying to do to much again. I have seen steady grow from this team from the beginning of the season and if we continue on that path we will be a scary team come Pac -12 tournaments time.

Finally the press which with this smallish set of guards you would think would have been employed much earlier. Pretty good game after a tough layoff without practice time.

I liked he pressure defense, we
've needed it all season

Yes we have the speed and the leapers on the back in to pressure teams. One of my questions about Smith's D all year is that we tend not to double when the ball goes down low or when someone drives into the lane. Bennett's D tended to always double when the ball went inside. Late in games we have been killed on drives to the hoop with nobody doubling. I guess it is a fear of the kick out 3 but I would still like to see more doubling when the ball gets in the lane.

Its not only that we don't double, that is part of Smith's analytics, but we don't threaten to double even when a player could feint a double. Makes it too predictable and leads to big fouls or easy buckets.
