Utah

I’m no nba scout but MG should be abusing this guy in the post if he’s an nba post player. Not a good look that he’s getting pushed around and taking contested fadaways rather than his feet and ball skills getting him to the rim.

Utah shooting 55% RED HOT from 3.

Carlson went 7-7

Semi bad defense by WSU

WSU 4-13 from 3, bad shooting.

So why is WSU only down by 8, when could be down 20?

WSU had about 10 offensive rebounds.

WSU only had 3,4 turnovers.

WSU shot well from Charity stripe.

Hopefully UTAH COOLS DOWN, and WSU HEATS UP.

MG is not a TRUE NBA eque post, YET

1. He is a sophomore.

2. Altho TALL enough, and 7-5 WINGSPAN, he is still SKINNY THIN.

3. Altho is better in high post in having various post moves, he still does not have the WEIGHT to BACK DOWN post defenders.

4. Altho Gueye can score in the high post, in the paint, Gueye is better FACING up, in the high post, paint, freethrow line distance, and either making post moves, drives, spins, fade away, tear droppers, runners, etc, over, around, etc, the defender, and hitting midrange shots from high post, and from freethrow line distance.

5. Gueye won't semi be the type of post your envisioning, until his Junior year at the very earliest.

6. Radio announcers said in a recent past broadcast that Gueye is starting to sneak onto, creep up NBA mock draft boards. He is currently about a 45-60 in 2nd round PROSPECT, AT BEST.

7. If Gueye stays for Junior year, Gueye is a candidate, prospect to go bottom of first round, top 2nd round.

8. Gueye has been improving, getting a wee tiny bit better each game he has played this season, and will probably continue to do so.

9. Gueye has been averaging about 15 points and about 10+ rebounds per game.

Needs to stay another year. Gets pushed off the block WAY to easy for his size and is barely an average elbow shooter. He’s a European player right now, not even close to NBA ready.

As for the rest of the team. Wasn’t darling a scorer in HS? I like his play but ffs he can’t shoot worth a piss. Wide open looks and clanking everything. Nwinsu is not a shooter. Just stop. They are a mess tonight.

Actually aside from the off shooting night, and semi bad defense, WSU doesn't have a lot of turnovers, they are playing hard, semi well at times.

Utah is just imposing it's will, not missing shots, dominating, etc.

Not much WSU can do about that, except shoot better, play better defense and tip WSU's hat to Utah.

But even if WSU did Shoot better, play better defense, Utah would find a way to win, as Utah is just THAT DOMINATING this game.

As I said tip hat in acknowledgement of that.

Yeah Darling, scored about 30 per game, and had a LOT of game high's of 40 and 50 and 60 point games.

And he was a semi pretty decent, ok, good, etc, 3 point shooter in HS.

Darling's bad shooting this season, is probably due increased competition, having to adjust to that, and is part mental, in his head as one of those bad shooting slumps that even the best of shooters experience at least 1 time. And even KLAY had a temporary terribly bad 3 point slump he overcame while at WSU.

Bamba would have made a huge difference in the game both offensively and defensively in the game.

But even with Bamba, Utah wins by 1 at worst, as that's how DOMINATING Utah was in that game.

Gueye had 20 points and 7 rebounds and 2 of 6 from 3, with 1 block, 1 steal, 1 assist, took 1 charge.

Gueye is being more assertive and gaining in confidence and his game seems to be improving as of late. I still don’t see an NBA player but he is moving in that direction. Imo he probably won’t play in the league but he’ll make plenty of money playing basketball. Hopefully Bamba returns for Colorado but WSU really didn’t play a terrible game Utah just played much better.

He was much better offensively in the 2nd half. Defense not much of a presence. They don’t care about defense in the NBA though.

Man that game was a buzzkill. Basketball really has a way of doing that to you, I felt like this team was really turning the corner. They battled back a couple times but Utes let it wire to wire. Figured would be a tough game but didn’t see them getting spanked. Big time bummer. Really need this game Saturday now.

Efe Abogidi only averaged about 7,8,9,10 ppg, far less then Gueye's 14,15,16 ppg, and despite that, is in the NBA D League, on Ignite team.

Because of that Gueye is CURRENTLY projected by some to most experts to 45-60 in 2nd round at best, on mock draft boards, to NBA D League, like Efe, an or undrafted FA that makes a roster, an or Euro ball KING, at worst. And that's CURRENTLY by the experts, so there is room by the end of season or end of next season for Gueye to improve, move up to bottom 1st round, top of 2nd round, as somebody in NBA will take a shot on his POTENTIAL, as POTENTIAL is everything to, and in the NBA.

As to the Utah loss, all one can do, should do is TIP THEIR HAT TO UTAH.

Utah just flat out shot RED HOT, PLAYED BETTER, OUTPLAYED, IMPOSED THEIR WILL, DOMINATED, DESPITE, NO MATTER HOW WELL WSU PLAYED, WHAT DID.

WSU got about 16 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS, And ONLY about 5,6,7,8 turnovers.

USUALLY that good enough to win.

Yes WSU only shot 30% from 3, and weren't good on offense, but Utah did great on Defense, and WSU did a semi ok job getting the ball inside to Gueye, moving the ball, and getting good open looks that they missed, and as said above they took care of the ball and didn't turn it over.

Yes the defense was semi somewhat semi bad, but Utah's offense was largely responsible for that, and it was not a lack of defensive effort.

Also not only did Utah play lights out, but they did it at Utah. Had that happened in Pullman, WSU would have made it closer or pulled out the 1 point win in overtime, with the way WSU played.

Also if WSU would have had Bamba, combined with WSU playing like WSU played, and in Pullman, it would have been a win.

The deck was just STACKED against WSU that game, and all that can or should do is TIP HAT TO UTAH, AND MOVE ON TO NEXT GAME.

As for Colorado, WSU's next game, Colorado has 8 losses, and Cal who WSU BLEW OUT, beat Colorado.

If WSU plays Colorado, like how played Utah(VERY LOW TURNOVERS, 16 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS), WSU extremely likely to get a win.

One ok played loss to Utah, on the road, does not change how good WSU has been the last 7 games, and does not change that WSU is still turning the corner so far.

Your reaction is a knee jerk reaction.

My reaction is from someone who really wants to believe this team can put a run together and go into the P12 tournament with a chance to come out of it a bubble tourney team. Unfortunately they dug such an early hole this season they need to be damn near perfect to pull it off. Not that things like that don’t happen in sports but not an ideal position to be in. This team can be really good on both ends and I believe KS is a top tier coach…yes Utah shot the lights out Thursday but there were plenty of moments of lazy defense, uncontested threes, poor rotation, jumping at pump fakes, and easy buckets inside. You aren’t going to win many games against a decent team on the road with that effort.

Speaking of Efe anybody know if he is injured? Barely seeing the floor and doing little to nothing when he does. Also interview with Rodman on brand X unfortunately leaves little doubt he’s gone after this year. Mentioned missing his best friend Ryan Rapp and being “done with school”

Found answer to my own question… Efe out for the remainder of the season with knee surgery. Averaged 3 point 3 rebounds in four games he played in. WSU players cursed when it comes to injuries. ugh!!

It really sucks how many games both the men and women are having to play this year due to injuries to top players. Both teams could have a handful more wins with a healthy roster each week.

Door seemed slightly open for DJ to come back. Bummer if he does leave, but he's expected to graduate. Hoping how well he's played this season might lead to wanting to run it back against next season.
