vs EWU

Diongue and Jack Wilson will step up and start.

So starting line up would probably be 5. Jack Wilson or Diongue. 4. Jaki. 3. Rodman. 2. Bamba. 1. Powell

WSU beat EWU by almost 30.

Game will be tougher this time around, even with Gueye, healthy WSU.

But with a healthy WSU, WSU would still win by about 9 to 17.

Without Gueye, WSU wins by about 4 to 6.

This does open up the theoretical upset by EWU.

But WSU will probably beat EWU

But if it was anybody else instead of EWU, I would be concerned that WSU would lose without Gueye.

Don't see much choice. Diongue's not ready and the are going call a ton of fouls on Wilson whether he fouls or not.

Jack Wilson had a lot of quality minutes backing up Gueye. Jack can play against EWU bigs. If it was other bigs from other teams, then maybe don't play Jack more.

But this is rediculous, Jack is needed. And EWU is eating WSU up inside out.

Jack is needed as a RIM PROTECTOR, inside.

Defense is TERRIBLE.

Didn't realize Steele Venters from Eastern was Big Sky POY.

Wonder if might want to step up a couple notches and take his talents to Pullman next season?

Why? This isn’t football.

EWU has a good squad and plays solid ball.

Great game so far. Both teams playing hard.
Seriously? Pac-12 vs Big Sky? How f-ing embarrassing. I am officially not a Kyle Smith fan anyomre.

Dudes a stud

Wonder if the Observer, D-Gib or any of the other Spokane-ites might have any info on whether Venters might be looking around for next season?

A lot of these players will leave the low-D1 schools for the bright lights now that they can play immediately

Not really.

Would just keep an eye on David Reilly as a head coach potential down the road. EWU was gutted after Shontay and the Groves brothers left a couple years ago. Reilly has reloaded quickly. They play a good style of unselfish ball.

Lots of Hayford’s influence offensively but much more player-centric.

To be fair, CKS and his staff were short-handed with Muhammad Guaye unavailable
Gaye wasnt the reason they lazily whiffed on that board. Gaye wasn’t the reason Bamba tried to do too much again.

Eastern isn’t shitty but if not having Gaye is the excuse to lose to them at home we are in deep shit next season.

I’ll apologize if I’m wrong on this, but I’m not buying Gueye’s injury. Hurt his back vs. UW, played 2 games in the P12 tourney, and now he’s too hurt to play?

Nope. This smells like a bowl game opt out. Dude is turning pro and didn’t want to play in the NIT.

Depends. Dishon is a solid player and so are the incoming bigs. Having a true point guard would really help.

Just to make this clear... our #1 player didn't play. Our TRUE center has been out all season. Our #1 point guard has been out all season.

Our back up PG/Combo guard (Kymany) is a freshman who can't shoot.

Dylan Darling is a freshman gamble/project (I think he's better then Kymany)

For anyone to think that we were going to have a decent post season run is crazy.

My ONLY complaint on Kyle Smith right now is that we have too many "projects" who clearly can't shoot and score. Would've made more sense for picking up a transfer PG or a JC PG.

I'm pretty stoked about next season.

We will be fine and I will be we have 2 more spots open for additional transfers before its all said and done.

I will gladly accept losing to Big Sky Champs when we are without our best player if we can obliterate the fuskies... beat Arizona... beat Oregon...

Good year all things considered

Philip Bobo, James Williams, Max Borghi and I had a good laugh at this. The NBA wants a guy who is too "hurt" to play basketball?

What is this - year 4 or 5 under Smith?

Team can be good, but needs a PG. tonight was a crappy effort. We need to stay healthy and win games they should. Smith has always struggled winning games they need to win. Happened at Columbia, USF and now here. Can’t have another non where we hover around .500. It took Sampson 7 years to make the tourney. Smith is heading into year 5.

Amazes me that anyone could state this so apologize right away. Mo was clearly hurt in the game when he fell flat on his back after a block prior to the Pac12 Tourny. In game 1 of the Pac12 tourney he went in and out of the locker room. Same in game 2 and clearly has been injured for some time.

Is Rosario retained? That dude has been such a mystery, and he's taking up a valuable scholarship slot. Seems like a transfer that can actually play would be a better option at this point.

Cougs are on the front page of ESPN.com, at least. Haha. I know Eastern is decent and they were in a tough spot with Mo out. Still, other than that one run in the second half, it was a lot of bad basketball all the way around, especially on defense. Missed layups and other shitty play. If WSU hadn't shot almost 50% from 3, they could have been run out of their own gym.

Good call out. I turned on the game in 2nd half and didn’t know about the injury. Immediately figured he wasn’t playing as a business decision. Very real possibility.

I don’t think that’s fair. This is the world we live in now with college sports, we all know it. He wasn’t bashing him for making the decision just guessing that might be what the decision was about. I did too.

Yes, they missed some very easy shots, pathetic effort there. What was getting me fired up was how many times they were driving into trouble. There were turnovers and EIGHT (8!!!) freaking blocked shots. Having eight shots knocked back in your face is ridiculous! That is just poor awareness of your own abilities relative to the opponent's abilities and positioning on the court.

When I heard Gueye wasn't playing I knew we were in deep shitski. That said, allowing the other team's high scoring stud all star to get wide open in the corner for the gam winning 3 point shot was inexcusable. You MUST make anyone but him be the one to beat you. It reminds me of a game against the mutts several years ago when we let the guy who already had scored 34 (IIRC) to catch the ball on top and fire up a long 3 for the win. You gotta keep the ball away from that ONE guy and make someone else step up.

Finally, letting the guy shooting a free throw get his miss when you have the only guys along the line to rebound is one of the biggest fukkups I have seen in a long time. That is the basics of basketball that I learned in 6th grade, for chrissakes! Know how many shots are coming, and you MUST block out the shooter. Absolutely zero excuse for not blocking out the shooter at the line, he should NEVER get the rebound!

It was disgusting, all around.

This is why I am not a Kyle Smith fan anymore. This is bad coaching. I missed the Bennett days. I was at one game (under Dick) where if I recall UCLA beat us 50-30. We could not hit a shot, but our defense was tenacious. That is good coaching.

We all miss those Bennett days, but reality is what it is. I'm not gonna complain about the current situation...most everybody is .500 or better in all the programs. The Lady Cougs have really raised the bar, which makes me happy on multiple levels.

Things aren't that bad, Guys.

That absolutely could be legit. If so, I apologize for the false assumption. WIth that said, if it were an NCAA tourney game, I bet he would have played.
