Honoring George Raveling at halftime.
Hope to see a good crowd.

uw is underachieving but their record is deceptive. Lots of close losses. Talented bigs. Hope Pollard has been spending some time in the ice bath and Miller is healthy enough to contribute. I think the NW Cougs - Bonton, Elleby, Miller and Williams will be fired up to play the evil empire and will figure out a way to win.

Go Cougs

Stewart's a beast and is going to be tough to matchup even with a healthy Pollard. McDaniels' a lottery pick type talent but seems to have been in the doghouse with Hopkins for much of the season. It will be interesting to see what we come up with to defend both and their athleticism and length in general.

They have been up big in games only to allow teams back into game and end up losing. Obviously issues at the point but Tsohonis (I believe the starter now) is probably starting to figure it out at this point. For us I think we need to get out to a lead to build confidence plus taking it away from them. Should be a decent crowd with the way we have played, Raveling honor, and it's still the UW.

McDaniels is only a lottery pick in his own mind. He won't be a lottery pick now or ever. Just because you're tall and can make more than two dribbles don't make you Kevin Durrant v2.0. Husky fans are savaging him. Too soft.

I like the Cougs in this one. Hoping Ravs comes down on the sidelines and orchestrates the crowd at least once for us old guys.

Would love to see that but Beasley isn't quite the same place it was when he would raising his arms to get the crowd going.

I guess hurling plastic cups on the court after bad calls is probably going to be frowned upon these days, too.
Yup, I'll never forget Raveling going to the microphone when the cups littered the court after a couple of bad calls. The student section was amazing in those days. I was in elementary and middle school during most of the Raveling years and really looked forward to what the students would come up with like reading the newspaper during the starting lineup for the other team. I couldn't wait to become a college students but unfortunately Raveling has moved on to Iowa by the time I was a student at WSU.

I can neither confirm nor deny any such hurling of plastic projectiles from the student section during said game as I am unaware of the statute of limitations on getting barred from Cougar athletic events.

Those were good, good times. Bennett Ball was fun and I had season tickets all through that - but the Rav years were f'ing crazy. The mic men were absolutely brutal on opposing players and coaches. It was the Kennel on steroids. And again, I can neither confirm nor deny that boda bags and flasks may have provided a little extra 'juice' to the crowd. All I know is a LOT of the students were drinking "cokes" at every game. Security was not a thing then.

Among the many memories I have of the Raveling days was the time Dick Harter's UO Ducks would come to town and try to intimidate the Cougars players during pre-game warmup by standing at midcourt and glaring at the opposition. A couple of crazy fans came out of the stands and stared right back about 3 inches from the faces of the Duck players. Can't imagine that being allowed these days, but it was funny as hell back then.

Glad Cougar

u dub favored by 3. Sounds about right. Need Elleby and or Bonton to be on tonight with neither one forcing it like they sometimes do.

Maybe I'm giving them too much respect, but I think UW is going to "go off" at some point this season and put it all together. Just hope it doesn't happen until after tonight. Like most games, if Cougars can shoot reasonably well, they have an excellent chance of winning. Must avoid those scoreless droughts and do certain things well: hit free throws and stay out of foul trouble (especially Elleby and Pollard).

It's been a strange conference this year. Surprised to see UCLA dismantle Arizona in Tucson last night, OSU beat UO & Colorado earlier this year, Cal beating Stanford, etc...You just never know how games are going to go. WSU could end up in last place with a much better team than they've had the past few years.....or they could end up in the middle of the pack. By this point in the season, you usually have it figured out. Not this year.

Glad Cougar

The celebratory games have gone well. I’d say honor more BB people, but we’re running out of people that deserve to be honored.

UW is a train wreck. Absolutely no guard play whatsoever. They play like a high school all star team.

WSU winning by 12. Sounds about right. Elleby was very on tonight.

Well, I was right about staying out of foul trouble and hitting the free throws. Fortunately, I was wrong about needing to avoid the long scoreless stretches. Despite going about 6 minutes without a FG in the first half, WSU still led at halftime. Outrebounding the much taller Huskies by 11 was a huge factor. This Cougar team rarely gets outhustled.

I was one of them. Got elbowed by one of the ducks when we walked behind them. Soccer wasn’t a thing those days, or I would have collapsed just to see what would happen.

Teams that play zone do not usually rebound as well, as you are not guarding a player, and therefore, you are not blocking out anyone. Coach Smith and his staff are smart and made it a point to try to dominate the boards.

Can anyone explain to me why that late foul by McDaniels on Bonton was not deemed to be flagrant? The guy went for a block with his right hand while bashing Bonton in the head with his left hand. Certainly meets the criteria of a flagrant 1 foul as defined by the NCAA. Doesn't matter that it might not have been intentional. Should've been 2 free throws and the ball. Instead, just your garden variety foul & 2 free throws. Didn't impact the outcome but it could've had the game been closer.

UW at 12-12 dropped for being ranked 50th to 54th in kenpom.

WSU rose from 131st to 124th in kenpom.

The refs blew chunks. They also called a foul on Elletby for hitting a UW drivers elbow with his face. And they let Williams get hammered on one end with no call then blew their whistle on ticky tac BS on transition.

That said was able to get to the game and it was awesome. Energy in Beasley was better than the Klay game. Always gets me tingly inside when our boys send the Huskies home with their heads down.

Since George was in the building, the Pac-12 office mandated the two short refs could do their best Richie Ballesteros imitations.

Sorry -folks shorter than 5'6" should never be allowed to referee basketball. It's clear neither of those two guys had ever played the game much beyond Y ball.

I am so glad you got your wish here, because it was awesome. Really fun game yesterday.

Its been said already but bears repeating: it is really awesome fun and hope in the basketball program again.
