WBB - Assistant Coach hires

I guess that completes the coaching staff? I think that she will probably will recruit a couple of more players to round out the team.

Pretty impressive. I think that we may actually start becoming good in WBB. As Dino Rossi once said, "20 years in the wilderness is long enough".

Appears they will add one more assistant. Looks like Deb Patterson will not follow Ethridge to Pullman as well.

One thing to note is that instead of hiring old has-beens Coach E hires young energetic recruiters with in most cases Post College experience. No recycled Mens assistants who just haven't moved yet.

Nared is very impressive. Worked at two top-flight WBB programs and knows the Pac12 and West Coast recruiting.

Portland native and a daughter of a coach.

I don't know. The current staff seems just fine as far as not being recycled. The criticism I had of the first staff had to do with Silvey Dominguez. He was a defensive expert who's specialty was the matchup zone. If you are not going to have that defense as the primary defense, there was no reason to have him.

Also, while I hope the new women's staff does well, we will not know until a few years.

I was posting about the comparison of out of the gate with MBB and WBB. Ernies current staff is fine but the targets are much different. Hiring all young energetic assistants who can recruit and hit the road is the better approach. Silv was old and tired, and the other former HC as far as I know never recruited a single player. The current group is better but still IMHO not up to Pac12 standards.

I do not think that it will take them more than two years. The coach has a solid nucleus and is adding parts.I think we will see noticeable improvement the first year.

Agree with ElC. It will take time but we will see improvement in year 1 at least in terms of execution and discipline. It will be interesting to see if all the holdovers stick around. As we all know change isn't always a smooth ride.

Not sure it will take all that much time. Last couple of years the injuries were big and the lack of execution was.... That problem was seen even earlier when the "recruiting" assistant left. He left due to game planning not recruiting.

Curious to why you believe that Bennie Seltzer and Ed Haskins are not up to Pac12 standards

Its my belief that you have to recruit high quality HS athletes to compete at the Pac-12 level. Seltzer has none so far. Haskins sorta has a good player in CJ but certainly not a top 150 player. You don't built programs year-after-year on JC's in the Pac12.

Seltzer has recruited high level talent in the Big 12, a better conference than the Pac 12. You have to start somewhere. With each years success, Mike Leach and his staff have been able to recruit higher rated talent. Hopefully, the basketball team can improve and that can lead to further recruiting success.

Both Seltzer and Haskins have a hard job to do, as WSU has been a bottom of the league team for a while now. They are not going to go out and recruit top players. No one has been able to do that consistently at WSU, unfortunately. Sampson jump started his team by going heavy on JC's early. I personally think that is a smart way to go.

This is not to say that I think Ernie will be successful in turning the program around.

I believe that CJ will surprise a lot of people. While he did not receive all the publicity,i think that he was arguably the best HS basketball player in the State last year. The European Player Kunc will also be a pleasant surprise. If the coaches have been good at evaluating player potential, the whole team may be a surprise. That is.of course,a big If. The problem in adding so many new players is consistency and teamwork. The Staff has a tough job ahead of it.

The JC's are a stop gap until Chun can afford to get rid of Ernie. No reason to burden the next coach with 3 or 4 years of the previous coach's recruits.

Kent is definitely on the hot seat and he needs to produce the next two years or he is gone. This years ; team has a chance to turn the corner. We will see if the coaching staff does a good job with the talent available

Better go read my post on the "balanced budget" thread on the FB board. No budget line item exists for severance for the next 5 years.......o_O

There are always exceptions to the rule. The bottom line and the frontline are not always in agreement.
