WBK Final: Oregon 79, Cougs 64 (Stats)

The 3rd quarter they came out and controlled both ends. Kept it from Hristova and Molina and obviously scored a lot of points. Overall played much better than Stanford. If they can put 4 quarters together they could pull it off against OSU.

Even though they lost by 15 I was impressed with them. The Ducks came out in the 3rd on fire. Especially Sallaby. She went 8-11 on 3's and I'd bet the majority were in the 3rd. They played better defense and we were cold in the 3rd. We went toe to toe with them except for the 3rd. Absolutely no give up. Hopefully they're taking on Ethridge's personality.

Great report Rich. Sounds like they need to score some big bodies to replace some that went away.

Good point on personality. It’s starting to look more like what Ethridge demands through the team rather than just a couple players. We don’t matchup well with Hebard and Sabally but we played hard and fought throughout. We needed Subasic, Levy, and Cher. Molina to step up and make some shots. Still they fought to the end. Molina even look to get a clean block on one of their forwards in the last couple of minutes.

OSU really hammered UW. The second game of the week we have looked tired but we matchup better against OSU. Hopefully we bring the same energy on both ends and shots fall. I feel like Molina is due for a monster game.

If the transfers had stayed and bought in I think we would have a couple more conference wins at this point. You are right though. It's all going to come down to whether Ethridge can recruit. I don't know how big an impact Murekatete makes next year but she looks like a good start.

Another thing I didn't really realize until watching the Ethridge presser. Beyond a 3 from Subasic only Hristova, Chanelle Molina, and Swedlund scored in the entire game. Not many shots either although Kostourkova/Levy combined to go 0-9. That really makes things tough.

I do like how Swedlund has improved her game and I think she also picked up Ionescu on defense. She has her flaws but she's played with a lot of energy and aggressiveness while also not forcing too many shots. She's not just a spot 3-point shooter any longer.

Although we don't have nearly enough talent and depth at this point when they have played more like Ethridge demands I really have liked what I have seen. I also like what I hear from Ethridge in interviews. She doesn't sugarcoat anything. There's little hyperbole from this Cougar coach.

The cougs will be a better team next year. Kami is a firebrand both as a former player and now coach. There is no quit in that woman. The future looks bright.
