Could we lose Rolo AND possibly other coaches?? We know Dickert is vaxed, does he become interm head coach? How do we replace the possible other coaches? What a mess. Hopefully Pat has a plan in place. Rolo was a very bad hire for WSU. He has shown to be a below average coach and his stance regarding the covid vax is baffling

Gonna be a very dark day for the program, no matter how it plays out, Rolo is sinking our program. If he stays, we’ll slowly circle the drain. If he gets canned due to the mandate, we’ll be a National news story and likely lose a slew of players to the transfer portal who support Rolo.

We’re in big trouble regardless.

How many over the 25 signing limit will the NCAA let you go?

It would be really bad if WSU signed 25 kids and still wasnt near or at the 85 limit. Heading into a season with under 80 does you no favors.

if he isn't vaxxed, he's gone. No religious exemption should be forthcoming since he publicly stated he wasn't against vaccines

For many, it isn’t vaccines per se. But how they are produced and/or tested that raise ethical and religious concerns.

From the standpoint of our program, this is a budding disaster. Things could completely spiral out of control if Rolo gets the hook and goes sideways about it. Coaches get fired all the time, but if the conspiracy angle gains traction in the locker room, every talented underclassman could transfer. JDL, X, Stribling. Stone Jr., Jackson, Haberer, Janikowski, Ollie, Crowder.

This could become a complete rebuild, as in, recovering from the death penalty ala SMU. What a freaking mess.

First off, I’m not trying to derail another thread on this topic or trying to be a smart ass. I get the thought process here. But considering technological advancements in the last 50 years, I have a hard time understanding why anyone would think the production/testing expectations for measles or Polio would be identical or even in the same ballpark to that for Covid today, if that’s the reason for not wanting to be vaxxed. We have exponentially better abilities all around. Technology, knowledge, processes, etc. All of this allows for far more efficient testing and production right?

And since nearly all of them are developed/tested/produced the same way and using derivations of the same cellular stocks, it becomes a problem with vaccines.

However, most religions have no specific objection to vaccination, and even the Catholics have said that those concerns should not prevent people from getting vaccinated. Basically, the protection of living people today outweighs the concerns.

Yes…but you hire the right coach (ie Leach) and things can quickly be looking up. Especially with the transfer portal…it goes both ways. Leach took over a dumpster fire and he lost some good players right off the bat too.
Someone mentioned Jeff Banks. I love this idea. I think he would kill it in recruiting and with the transfer portal. He’s been asst head coach and been around great coaches like Saban. He knows what you need to do at WSU. I do think he’d jump to a bigger program if he had success but who cares, at this point you need to acknowledge where your program is at and get some momentum back in the right direction. Anyone know if Banks was interviewed when Leach left?

It’s doubtful we’ll find out what he’s done. And we shouldn’t. The only news should be whether he’s compliant or not.

If he applies for an exemption, he probably gets it. If he can articulate what his objection is - and it connects to anything that qualifies as a belief (and which isn’t a dumb ass conspiracy theory like ‘the vaccine has a magnetic 5G mind control tracking chip in it’) it will be granted.

The threshold for him should be the same as it is for every janitor, plumber, and secretary. If it’s not, that’s when they lose me.

Problem I see is his visibility. I would not be the least bit surprised if, assuming Rolo files an exemption, the governor’s office demands its own review.

Jeff Banks doesnt walk into the WSU job *thinking* he knows what a program should look like. He shows up *knowing* what a program should look like. Top to bottom, coaching staff, support staff, recruiting, etc.

We saw what Oregon did to Leach’s staff hiring away so many coaches. If the Pac 12 wants to get better the league schools need to start hiring away from the SEC.

How many exemptions have been allowed?

How would he answer this question…. have you taken a vaccine before? If yes, he prob has some problems getting an exemption.

I dont see this ending in any other ways than taking the shot or taking his shit and leaving. I dont see Inslee flinching on this.

Oregon State was very patient with Jonathan Smith, and it looks like their patience is paying off. The Beavs are legitimate P12 title contenders.

Leach did a remarkable job turning our program around, but it took a few years. We’re staring at that same reality again.

Banks is a smart guy, a good coach and a great recruiter…and he’s a Coug. I see no downside with this and a lot of upside. He would get commits from kids high on UW/SC. He’s be one of my first calls if I’m Chun with a list of guys you actually have a shot at.

I don't understand why this has to be prolonged to 10/18. Surely Chun has met with Rolo and asked him what he is intending. Rolo has to understand that patience is getting very thin, and his coy routine is pissing everyone off. Rolo and Chun need to make a definitive announcement of how he will or won't comply, so we can move on either way.

If Oregon State continues to build, we are going to be in such a hole for recruiting.

There’s nothing Chun can do. Rolo has stated that he will comply with the mandate. Chun’s hands are tied for now.

As for OSUs recruiting, it’s not going to affect us, IMO. A good staff can find and assemble 25 good recruits every season. What is going to affect us is a mass exodus of players following Rolo’s departure. That will cripple the roster and making finding a viable coaching candidate all the more difficult.

Banks makes $1 million as special teams coordinator and would need costly OC and DC

WSU will not pay retail price for a coach from a Red State again.

Smith did an excellent job picking his staff and then looked under every rock trying to get talent on the field. Transfers and JC players with a legit shot at starting while his younger players cooked a bit. Third full year and OSU appears to be on the road.

Rolo’s ties are to Hawaii and California, perhaps the two bluest states in the Nation. His vaccine stance has nothing to do with politics.

Don’t know. To my knowledge WSU hasn’t officially approved or denied any exemption requests yet. That’s going to create a significant problem in about 8 days.

I agree Inslee probably won’t budge on Rolo, but that in itself is a problem. His office has left exemption evaluations to the employers. If he steps in to approve or deny one employee’s request (Rolo’s) then he should also review janitors, plumbers, etc. Having a different process for different employees creates an inequity (although it appears that in this state it’s OK to be unequal as long as it’s white males who get the short end).

They have long been the ones who have been discriminated on .😩

huh? He’s not from a red state. He’s from California.

I know he makes $1mill. He also isn’t getting an SEC job without success somewhere else in the power 5. Especially being a former punter and special teams guy.

I think in a lot of ways it would be a perfect fit, and IMO would be stupid of him not to make the move for triple the pay and a chance to further build his resume. Now, I have no idea what he thinks of Pullman or his career prospects staying at his position in TX. If sark succeeds, he will be in that spot for years, and I don’t see how Banks gets a better first HC job than WSU.

The development of the Covid vaccines included use aborted fetal tissue early in the process. The Vatican has been staunchly pro-vaccine, but not everyone does what the pope says. And the Vatican has its fair share of black marks on its reputation.

It's been argued by top medical professionals that the Covid "vaccines' aren't even vaccines.

The Vatican and other Catholic ethicists, such as the NCBC, has said for years that if a more ethical alternative is not available, then one *may* use the vaccine. This is an application of the doctrine of double effect. It in no way says the vaccine production methods are ethical or other vaccines should continue to be produced in such a manner.

I don’t disagree with you here, but the counterpoint to this would be, you’re an up and coming hot commodity in the coaching circle. Taking the WSU job under normal circumstances would be extremely challenging, but on the heels of this $hit storm, it screams career killer. Wait for a better job.

Oregon State has a tremendous strength coach. Physicality has improved every year. Ever since coach Loco left for the Chicago Bears our team has lost ts edge on physicality.

Regarding Banks. Most hs kids could care less if he was a special teams coach. Name recognition and reputation is needed for the WSU job.

We don’t know that it hasn’t. It’s not public information, and even if it was the university has been slow in conducting reviews/approvals.

Nothing's going to happen on October 18th.
If you think he could lose his job before next year , why do you think they won’t make a live on the 18th and take their chances in court and simply pay him off if they lose ?

Jonathan Smith showed promise right from the get-go, whereas the world's finest microscope would have a hard time pin-pointing a promising attribute Rolovich has exhibited.

Smith arguably blew the 2019 game vs Leach and the 2020 game vs Rolo

They went 2-10 his first season, and fans were chirping loudly. He’s an alumnus, and had a longer leash, probably because of the time he spent at UW under Peterson.

If the guy goes 0 for Pac 12, it's a heck of a lot easier sell to fan base than for a controversial health mandate that somewhere between 30 and 50% (rough guess) of the fan base are opposed to.

As I've said previously, the last thing the university or state wants is a high profile lawsuit challenging the mandate. The university doesn't want it in the middle of the season, the state doesn't want it for political reasons.

1-11 is far more defensible and nobody is going to argue against that. Might even unify the pro-/anti-mandate checkbooks of the boosters to pay the buyout.

You think he is going 2-10? He could reel off four victories and Schultz will have him fired after the school year.

And why doesn’t the state want the fight? It wouldn’t be settled for over a year. I would think the state would want the fight if there intent is to show there is teeth behind the mandate. Most employers want it . A good majority of them are tired of losing production because of covid cases. A friend of mine hates Inslee. And I mean hates him. He employs over 1200 people in the Puget Sound area. He is happy there is the mandate and is waiting for the bigger companies to start mandating their employees to be vaxed and then smaller companies will follow suit.

But it will be moot… Rolo will be vaxed.

I don’t understand the “red state” comments. Because it didn’t work out last time?
