What if....

We'd still be considered the 3rd best team in the north until we beat Stanford and UW this year (assuming Stanford beats ASU). We might still be ranked below both UW and Oregon (but maybe not). We'd be in a three way tie for first in the north with control over our destiny but few people still really believing in us (unless we blow Oregon out).

On the positive side, we should be ranked in the Top 25 of the Coach's Poll after this weekend and might get into the AP Top 25. Don't be surprised if CU, Texas A&M and Wisconsin lose this weekend to give us a shot at slipping into the AP Top 25. A win over Oregon (who would be ranked around #12 with a win over the mutts) would put us around #20.

Where it gets really silly is if we can in fact beat Stanford in Palo Alto. We would be favored in our last three games before the AC and would probably be ranked around #8 in the country. Truth is.....outside of the remote possibility that Gameday would come to Pullman for #12 Oregon vs #25/26 WSU, we are hypothetically better off with UW beating the ducks. If UW continues to eke out wins, the AC could feature #6 UW vs #8 WSU on the same weekend that #12 USC plays #5 Notre Dame. If the condoms can do us the favor of winning out against their schedule and knocking off Notre Dame........a win in the AC would mean that WSU would likely be #5 going into championship weekend. If we beat #10 USC and if Alabama beats Georgia in the SEC championship (assuming that the Bulldogs get to the championship game undefeated), would the BCS playoff people take two SEC teams over a 12-1 Pac-12 champ with it's one loss being a 3 point loss on the road on a short week? Probably, but it would be hard to leave us out. I'm also assuming that the Big 12 cannibalizes itself and that WVU, Texas and OU all lose at least one more game (two for WVU).

Now, the sad reality is that although I'd like to think that our relative clunker against OSU was our trap game of the year, I don't feel all that confident about that. Stanford and UW are going to be tough for us to beat and Colorado looks more legit than I would have expected. Arizona is terrifying because we haven't shown that we can really handle mobile QB's and Cal showed us last year that we can't assume anything against them. 0-6 is more likely than 6-0 although I don't believe either will happen. 4-2 would be an incredible finish to this season but 3-3 would be quite all right by me. 8-4 in a "rebuilding" season ain't too shabby and if that's the consolation prize, it's one I can live with.

If nothing else, it's a testament to Leach as a coach that in mid-October, we can talk about making it to the college football playoff and we don't sound like raving idiots. That's fun if nothing else.

I am pulling for this as well. But I just don’t know if Gameday will show for the game.

They always come up with an excuse.

During week 8 there aren’t very many interesting matchups.

The main one is probably NC State at Clemson. Both have bye weeks and both are undefeated so week 8 probably will be there.
For an undefeated ACC matchup.

If they don’t go to that we have as good a shot at anyone.

I wanted to follow up with this: Since we are unlikely to run the table, I'd love to see UW lose to Oregon and CU in the next two weeks as well as Stanford a couple weeks after that. Screw the mutts.

Your heart seems filled with hate.

Do you have a moment to talk about Jesus?

They will be in Seattle if UW and Colorado both win this weekend.

The Clemson/NC State game is two undefeated teams. They can do a whole Hurricane Florence segment. It just seems like week 8 that will be the destination.

Game day isn't coming to Pullman, this year or anytime soon. As for the Cougs, as someone mentioned they can beat anyone left on the schedule, or lose to any of them. I just hope we keep the home win streak going, 4 left at home and 2 on the road. I would love to see the Mutts lose this weekend, however if they come into Pullman with their only loss to Auburn, that's fine with me to, cause anything is possible. The problem with going 6-0 the rest of the way is the defense, our offense can score on anyone, but we have to score 35 points or more a game to win, that is not always possible. UW has had our number for the past 4 years, their defense is good, and I doubt it would be much different this year, except for one thing, we have the "Husky Slayer", Alex Brink in the booth.

I'll be putting a $1,000 in my pocket and taking a friend's tickets that doesn't go to games.

A win-win.

Hell no! If I KNEW we would beat them I’d welcome that, but considering the uphill battle particularly the way the DLine is getting run through I don’t want any chance of them celebrating a playoff appearance or North title on our field. I’d rather see them lose every game.

Tickets will never go for $500...in our lifetime (inflation do the math. It will eventually happen). The others are entirely possible although I think they will be at Clemson NC State still.

I'll be blunt here. This obsession over Gameday coming to Pullman is beyond trite. I personally don't need Herbie et al to set foot in Pullman to validate the Cougars' existence. Stop. Just stop.

I stand corrected. The game as of last week wasn't even a sellout, so there's no way there's going to be this sort of demand. What was I thinking?

Hey, I'm not obsessed with GameDay, but they will come, one of these years, (or decades).

I'd put money on football itself ending before tickets are ever $500 in Pullman and maybe gameday coming. There's a slim chance that might happen one day

FWIW there were a FEW tickets going for over $500 on second sale sites for the USC game last year. There are decent tickets on vivid seats for the Oregon game for $200-$300.

There are around 500 tickets available on these sites. WSU has started selling its 50” standing room only tickets. With the hype leading up to the game, decent start time, and unbeatable weather I expect this one to be a packed house. I hope fans decide to get into the game before kickoff and don’t all head out at half (as happened the last two games.)

More than happy to eat crow?

Never said it wouldn't happen. I simply said some should end this all-consuming subservience that ESPN Gameday's arrival in Pullman means we've finally arrived. I guess you, as others, need this to justify your existence.
Until we beat the Huskies, we haven't arrived. 6 years ago, (2012) doesn't count!

This Saturday happens to be the best choice and a perfect storm, (in a good way).

They're going $500 and over right now. Check out any third party ticket vendor. Crazy. It's all about supply and demand.

Just like any commodity in life. It's what a buyer is willing to pay.

I saw what you did there yesterday. Good call M-I. I was out of circulation so didn't read about Gameday until late this AM. This is huge. Anyone who doesn't realize it will when we get national press all week long. Which has already started.

Now Uncle Rico and his boys will need to get it done. Think he is glad he took the call from CML?
