What is Utah doing???

They must believe in the power of the secret verbal. LOL

Is there head coach moving on? Utah is usually really well coached, and what they lack is skill players. This recruiting strategy doesn't help them.

If their plan is to fill half their class when most other teams are already full, theyre on it! Why compete? Just wait until everyone is done!

They just lost their OC (new head coach at Sac State) and the 4 star QB they signed last year (transferred to Indiana.)

Utah's inability to put together even a pedestrian offense is amazing.

Over on BlockU they have more scholarships to give and expect several more signings in the coming weeks.
They are still looking for a QB to sign. They guy they wanted signed with ASU.

There are some good kids out there to be signed. I dunno that Utah has the brand to pick up the difference makers late.

Didn't know they lost the OC to Sac State. Tough deal - for him, that is. He has to follow in the footsteps of the great Paul Wulff...

They were snake bit this season. Huntley was a very good QB, but he just couldn't stay healthy. Had he, and their RB Ross remained healthy, I believe they would have beaten UW in the P12 championship.

Those guys were still healthy and playing when they hosted UW in September. They mustered 7 points against UW, only 4 more than the 3 Utah scored in the CCG.

Huntley had some moments but very good is a stretch. It didn't help whoever the qb was only had one good target in Covey (sp?). They actually didn't seem to lose much when the backup qb was forced to play.

Agreed, that is the question. There is some talk that leaving room for the higher ranked kids who didn't want to sign early is a good move, but as you say, I'm not sure that Utah has the brand to make that work.

You must have early onset Waldenheimers.

Sears was the head coach replaced by Taylor.
Wulff's position as assistant head coach and OL coach at Sacramento St was taken over by a local high school coach.
Wulff actually did coach (and win) one game this season against a religious NAIA school when Sears served a one game NCAA suspension.

Btw, Chris Ball just took the NAU job and perhaps the band might reform there.

Perhaps CougEd aka HornetEd and now LumberjackEd can provide an update.

From ole BallSack’s presser...

“We’re going to do this the right way“

“He gave me the opportunity to be a defensive coordinator,” Ball said. “I was defensive coordinator at Washington State and we weren’t very good,”

Utah started the season slow and didn't score much early in the season. But, they did improve and scored over40 points in four straight games until the game where Huntley was injured. They were never the same afterward, especially losing both Huntley and Moss.

Yes, I think that Utah beats the uw the second time around if they had played.

I disagree. Huntley's completion percentage was much higher (64.1% to 57.7%), he had twice as many TD's as interceptions (12 TD's to 6 Int's) . Shelly threw more interceptions 4, than he had TD's 3. His passer rating was 140.1 to 118.0.

There was a reason why he won the job and was the starter.

Whittingham is due to fire the OC.

God, I would hope Ball is smarter than to hire maybe one guy from the Sac Statr posse. Not to deny a guy the right to make a living but Wulff has been given multiple career rehab opportunities. There comes a point where the homey circle jerk of hiring should stop. Some of those cats should think about another career path. Most of Ernie Kent’s failed hires fit that bill.

There’s plenty of high school guys out there like Troy Taylor who would be better bets.

Heh. 3 ints were against UW in championship game. I wonder if that affected his qb rating also.
Correct. And I think the best receiver, Covey, was injured early in that game or perhaps the previous Utah game....which made it more challenging for Shelly. Huntley was a better QB, but Shelly played extremely well vs. UO.

Glad Cougar

Covey got beat up in both games but went out in the championship. Shelley actually had the better passer rating of the two but both had similar stats overall. I wonder if the Husky defense had something to do with it, really tough to tell.

Covey barely survived the previous game v. UW, in which mutt thug DBs should have been flagged on two hits to Covey. On neither one did they make a play on the ball, choosing instead to viciously target a vulnerable player. But what goes around comes around, or so I hope.

Probably not. Utah couldn’t shit their own pants in the championship game.

Do you mean they hit a guy hard that was attempting to catch or had caught the ball? The poor fellow probably didn't know what he was in for when he stepped on the football field.

By "Snow" do you mean Shelley is having the same problems his dad had at the UW?

No, I wouldn't try to dredge up the past of someone that by all accounts was a great kid before some legal issues in college and made life changes for the better after that. Nor would I make baseless associations besmirching his innocent son all in the interest of "fun" rivalry talk. I get not everyone is like that though.

Tyquez Hampton...WR, the kid from El Paso who the Utes flipped from us 2yrs ago is no longer on their roster & is red-shirting at Coffeeville JC. With the success the Cougs have had recently, gotta wonder what they said to him & if a kid like Hampton is kicking himself going to offensively challenged Utah.

If memory serves, Ty Hampton flipped during the teams slow start in 2016. His letter of decommit mentioned, which bragged about Utah having a great medical school, was full of spelling errors. Sometimes we luck out when a kid decommits.

Fans panic much more than coaches (except for Petersen, he panics) when a player decommits. They will just go after another player.
