Picked WSU to win the Apple Cup 42-14. Said we need to play the matchup advantage and not veer away from it. UW is good in the secondary and near the bottom of the Pac against the run. As such, we need to run the ball and keep running it. On defense he said to play them man-to-man with blitz packages. Force them to make plays to beat you.

I don't agree with his predicted margin of victory, but his game analysis matches spot on what I think as well. Harris and Calvin Jackson Jr. will be matched up against NFL corners, so we need the running game to set up JDL and play action, something he does very well. The last thing we want to see are too many of his improvisational roll out passes. That's playing into their hands.

I’ll say similar to Zona, we put the pedal down early, this type of score wouldn’t shock me. They’ve had a tough year, they don’t know who their coach is going to be next year, no bowl to look forward to, some of them are thinking about where they can transfer to. I think if we come out firing on all cylinders they will pack it in.

The key is to get them discouraged. The problem is that UW is just good enough to hang around and that is dangerous for us on the road. Michigan is the only team that is really blown them out.

I feel as good about this game as I have since 2015.....when we lost by 35 points. 8-3 WSU vs 5-6 UW and we got boat raced. They don't have a bowl game to play for this year, but we have to come out hot and bury them. If we let them hang around....ugh.

Falk was injured for the 2015 AC

UW plays press man often times on the outside. We are utilizing our slot receivers much more on deeper routes than w Leach. Jackson and Harris will be 1 on 1 w a safety for most of the game. DeLaura speed option w Borghi and runs up middle should be successful. DeLaura step up the middle will be 1 on 1 w a slower linebacker all game long. Having a mobile QB will help.

They’re not a pushover. Look at the conference team stats. They’re almost exactly even with us. The difference is they have bad QB play and they make mistakes.

The biggest difference between now and years past is that they don’t have one of the best coaches in the Nation calling their plays. Peterson was fantastic.

That would be our largest MOV since 1992 and I am guessing the largest in history in Seattle by a WSU team.
Barely. It was 26 points(52-26) in ‘73. It was so much fun watching Jones go through 5 yard wide holes and into the end zone. We had 45 at the half, iirc.

Turnovers…they don’t take good care of the ball and Cougs are excellent at creating. If they magically find a way to protect the ball, it will be a fight. They don’t run the ball well enough to go student body R/L all game, they are going to have to take some chances…and when they do we need sack strips and picks. Get 3-4 of those we can smoke em. I think they will play it very conservative to try and ugly it up and keep it close. Offense moves the chains at a regular clip, wear down the defense, and we smoke em that way.

I agree going up a couple scores early will be key. Obviously, its always good to have a lead, but I think UW is kind of in the same space as Arizona. They will come out and start well, but will be kind of fragile. No bowl game, coach fired, crummy weather, neutral/hostile crowd. Plus, none of these players really view WSU as a rival- they aren't burning to avenge the 2012 loss when they were in 4th grade, living in Orange County.

His them in the mouth hard early in the game, and they might pack it in, especially knowing that they have limited capacity to win a shoot-out.

The only thing I disagree with you about is that they don’t view us as a rival. Their fans might might not, but the Apple Cup is unbelievably important to UW. I’d argue that it’s more important to their program than it is to ours. That’s the biggest false assumption we make about this game every year.

Corners are good, but probably won't match up with Jackson and Harris all the time. Exploit it when they are not on them.

Agree on running the ball a ton though, but let's go to Borghi in the pass game too. I know in the past that played into UW hands in the past, but that was the unflinching, unchanging Leach Stubborness. Having to play the run, could set up some big gains in the screen game or wheel routes.
