I'll be watching with intrigue. I think I'll root for them. I don't hold any animosity towards Leach.

I’ll pay attention to them. I’m not expecting them to be great. Not rooting against him. It’ll be interesting to see how the fans take to him when they realize he literally runs the ball 12 times a game if that and they lose and after the game he just says they need to execute better. I’m intrigued to see with a little better athletes the Air Raid doesn’t get the clamps put on them by defenses that can restrict space better than the offense can create space.

I root for WSU and whatever teams are playing against UW, Boise State and Notre Dame.

I can’t say I’ll root against Mississippi State, but the fact is that they aggressively poached our head coach. That is a fact. Regardless of whether-or-not it was the “right time,” “good for Mike Leach,” “good for WSU,” etc., the reality is that I will have a hard time rooting for that program.

I hope Mike Leach is happy moving forward and remembers his time at WSU fondly and with pride.

Yes. Had he gone to Tennessee a few years ago probably not. MSU is an underdog school and Leach certainly put his time in at WSU.

Folks, is it wrong that I’m not angry , hurt all that biz , but there’s a part of me that hopes he quickly & forever “regrets”—day after a season or two— even though we may never know ?

No more than I already do. I already like the underdog and MSU is in their conference. I won’t root against Leach. But I also won’t follow him and become a big MSU fan just because he’s there like lots of TTU fans did with us. Maybe it’s something to do with the circumstances of parting why he had so many TTU followers. I feel like WSU admin wanted to have him stay, he wanted something different, best of luck to him.

I'm wondering about the level of success he'll achieve in the SEC. His lack of focus on defense will be a problem. Just saying "do your job" will also be a problem in a league where defenders are some of the best in college FB. Think about recent Apple Cups.

I wish him the best and will be forever grateful for his contribution to my beloved alma mater. Good luck and Godspeed Coach.

I doubt that I will pay much attention at all until they reach a New Years bowl or CFP game. I suspect that if they haven’t done that by year 3, Leach will have an unfortunate gator hunting accident or something.

Neither of those is going to happen and it won’t be because of any kind of accident.

I will pull for Leach and Mississippi State--but won't be sporting any of their gear, attending games, or anything crazy like that--because I don't want Leach to fail and to have his success in the Pac-12 and Big 12 just be positioned as owing to weakness in those conferences, especially on the defensive side of the ball, with the implication that the SEC is superior.

Yeah, it would suck to see Mississippi State in the CFP, winning a NY6 bowl game, or winning an SEC title (or division) when viewed in contrast to what he could do at WSU, but it would be a good thing in view of the desire to avoid what I described above.

I may also tune in when they play Auburn, Bama, LSU, Fl, too see if he’s adapting in any significant way or doing the same stubborn stuff we came to expect against the elite defenses in our conference.
Considering the move and uptick in assistant budget, I think he’d be well served to have an actual OC and relinquish the play calling duties. He probably won’t...

Can’t blame him for leaving. 1.25 million raise and a boatload of money for assistants. It was time for Mike and WSU to part ways. The AR principles are run by just about everybody now and he is too stubborn to adapt and run a more varied offense ~~see Oklahoma, Baylor etc. Having said that, I hope we continue to run the AR with a few tweaks here and there. I intend to closely watch how Mike does at MS and I will be cheering for him.

I won’t actively root against him, nor for him. I will have a bit of a smirk on my face if he does tank, though, primarily because I think he made a big mistake and gave up a good thing...I won’t feel bad for him if it ends up being the grass isn’t greener at MSU.

At least he went someplace completely neutral to WSU. I was always afraid that he might end up at one of the Arizona schools. Mississippi State is the WSU of the SEC. I can live with that.

I want him to succeed. Kinda ambivalent about MSU though. No I'll will towards Mike at all. It's a business and frankly, I'm to say he was our coach.

I will follow MSU because I’m curious to see how Leach does there. I expect the results will be a lot like when he was at TTU and WSU. Leach owned Texas A&M while he was at Tech, and he currently has Alabama, LSU, and Auburn as conference rivals that will be hard for him to beat (sorta like Texas/Oklahoma, or Washington/Oregon/Stanford). We all know the drill on how he is. It should be both very exciting and extremely frustrating. It won’t be boring, like it is now at TTU. Time will tell about post-Leach WSU.

I also will be fascinated to see how Leach does in the “Sure Everyone Cheats”, conference, since as far as I can tell he has always run a very clean program. Could be a big problem with some of the MSU boosters.

I hold no ill will towards him. I was kind of hoping he took another job so some of us would get a much needed slap back to reality. Can never fault anyone for taking a job that comes with more institutional support. I think we keep him if we had the money to be competitive with the assistant coach pool. He's getting about $5mill/year for assistants. What were we paying for assistants? I have no idea, but that combined with losing guys every year directly lead to the Claeys situation and a horrible defense. Straw that broke the Camel's back I suppose.
The main reason I hope he does really well is the fact that I hate the SEC and the current CFB system more than all other things football. It would bring me great pleasure to have see him shred all those cheatin bastards

I keep hearing how he owned Texas A&M. Y'all realize that Dennis Franchione isn't there anymore right? You also realize that at Mississippi State, he isn't going to have a roster full of kids with chips on their shoulders because A&M didn't offer them? Assuming that he's going to whip A&M every year because of what happened when the current players were drinking juice boxes in elementary school is just kind of weird to me.

That goes both ways you realize. Those stating he won’t do well at MSU because the conference is loaded with talent/sure losses and include TA&M as part of the talent should realize TA&M was only 4-4 in conference play, while MSU was 3-5. Not much difference, and not very hard to believe those numbers could be reversed if Leach was there last year. Not really relevant, but you do realize Leach kicked Sherman’s butt as well.

Show me where I or anyone else stated Leach is “going to whip A&M’s every year. Your use of this lie is called creating a “straw man” to try and booster your point. Shame on you.

For what it’s worth, I think MSU will struggle next year as they learn the Air Raid. In the following years they have Alabama, Georgia, LSU, as likely loses if they play, with a good chance of beating anyone else (including TA&M).

Royhobbs has a thing in just about every single post about how MSU is going to beat A&M every year because Leach owned them at Tech. You just got through saying that he owned them. He might kick their ass.....but it has nothing to do with how they did 10+ years ago.

I am like many on here. I will somewhat follow, but I will not root for or against. I am not going to go out of my way to pay attention. But, if someone posts an update on here I will read it or if I see a highlight, I will watch. I think that if he has an outstanding year or a horrible year and is in the news more, I will pay more attention.

I am strangely indifferent. Leach brought us one of our greatest eras of football and then bailed for greener pastures at a time the program was reeling on talent, in a very awkward time for recruiting. I know players are out but the group text "bye-bye" is beyond lame to me as well.

I guess I am rooting for him to discover that, instead of seeing it once a year, every conference game down there presents the same challenge as the Apple Cup so that he is FORCED to either adapt, or retire. I'm hoping for the former, and in that case I'd like to see what kind of run he can go on when he can't just farm out his defense.

I'll just check the scores

I think I posted that once but not so sure why that upsets you so much

Dont expect much from them in the SEC West and if we remember correctly the first couple of years can be rough trying to learn the system and get HIS guys...

On being upset about him leaving....I left Pullman 40 years ago and I guess they finally got over it.... he returned us to respectability and we all had a better time than we did the Ten years before...it won’t cost me much to root for him against all those frickin Goliaths....

Be Free Pirate and bring on Belichek

Yes. But I like MSU anyway, mostly because of their baseball program. Will the Thrill Clark came from MSU. And they had a kid last year, Mangum, who was a total winner.

They will be a fun follow and this was a very amicable split.

He's going to turn MSU around a lot faster than he did WSU.

Curious why you say it was an awkward time for recruiting. From WSUs perspective or the guys who just signed?

MSU is not in a shambles. They've got good talent, quite a few seniors graduated though. QB situation will be interesting. Very good soph to be shaefer-but he may not be an air raid qb-who knows.

DC hire will be interesting

It doesn't "upset me". It makes me think that you're an idiot who doesn't understand how football works. And you only posted it once on this thread but you've posted it in at least two other threads prior to this for whatever that's worth.

We beat Oregon four years in a year but it didn't help us beat them this year. It doesn't mean jack sh!t how Leach did against Texas A&M 10+ years ago at a different school and facing different coaches. I'm not "upset" that you guys keep acting like it is meaningful, but I just can't sit back and watch stupid thoughts fester and then spread.

I think Leach has tamu's number, its an old rivalry and he would always come out on top, if that triggers you buy some kleenex

I think you're an idiot. It's 100% more likely than Leach having TAMU's number. I don't need kleenex when I read your posts. I need ibuprofen to help me deal with the headaches that stupidity causes.
