That must be a Pac 12 network mandated start time?!

Anyhow, half the die hard Cougs in Spokane (the ones with more $ than me) who usually go to these games will be in San Antonio. So if your looking for a stocking stuffer idea, I imagine there are still 8-10k seats available. See you there?

Santa Clara is coming off a 19 point win over Idaho and a 10 point win over USC. Cougs will have to show up in this one.

Hockey game in the Arena Friday night. Bobby Brett prime time revenue trumps Ernie's alarm clock.

Why would a Friday night hockey game determine the start time for a Saturday basketball game? If anything you would think it would push it back. That's an all-nighter, going from ice to hardcourt in what - 12 hours?

The Brand Y article was funny - said the game would be played "in front of tens of fans". About right.

The Cougs have drawn fairly well in Spokane compared to Pullman for hoops of late. This year a lot of the hard core Coug fans will be in San Antonio but I’d still expect twice the attendance this game would get in Pullman, so somewhere around 1000.

My fault - got the dates crossed but point remains the same. Hockey game is Saturday night, basketball game is Saturday morning.

They'll already have the basketball floor laid over the ice. 4 or 5 hour turn max. B. Brett doesn't lose revenue for Coug hoops. Not in a million years.

The Arena would push hockey night out for a GU game for sure. Concessions alone on that would put a nice downpayment on Ernie's buyout.

Buy out money would be better spent on upgrades like charters. Then let Ernie gracefully retire after 2 more years.

Really? The court sits on the ice? Or some in-between insulator or other material? I'd like to see that. So is the court itself cold? Seriously, not being a dick-gibbons here - am truly curious. At Beasley the parquet floor is in sections - 6x6 or 8x8 or whatever. Assume the same up in the Arena. Weird that it would go on top of ice.

Yup. Pretty normal. I played most of my high school career in the old coliseum with the floor over ice. Friday night high school games, Saturday hockey. Cold as hell. Sometimes the ball would get roll under the basket standards right onto exposed ice. Timeout to towel the ball off.

Huh. I learn something every day........

In the old coliseum it wasn’t the norm but it also wasn’t uncommon to have water seep up onto certain spots on the floor

That must have been a strange experience. I never had that pleasure. I do remember playing in a high school gym on a tile floor laid over concrete. The ball sounded funny bouncing off the floor and the footing was not that good.

Playing in the old Coliseum was cool (literally) - there were always good crowds for the triple headers. The floor, however, was horrific- it was almost like playing on metal - cold and lots of dead spots so dribbling was hit and miss. First varsity start was against GPrep and John Stockton - still suffering from PTSD on that one. Couldn't dribble, all time NBA steals leader, not good.

I couldn't shoot to save my life in there as I had an astigmatism - one end was a big curtain set back maybe 40 feet behind the basket, the other end was bowl seating that had an entirely different background. Should have moved to CV and became legendary.

Instead, not so much.

My first coliseum experience was not as a starter but being sent into the game against LC to guard number 11. I actually started out onto the floor and turned around and questioned coach. You know that’s CLay Damon?

Lol. That’s my ‘little brother’. I beat him into the player he became.

Clay was #12. Yours truly wore 11 which was subsequently mothballed for a long time.

I wasn’t sure if it was 11 or 12 but that’s a funny small world story. He fixed both my kids teeth

I agree there is no buyout money, so give the program all the support we can and look to make a change in 2 years assuming no significant improvement.

No matter what people think of Kents coaching ability, he isnt trying to do a bad job. Considering the obstacles to success in Pullman, the current staff might be in a better position than any likely replacement

Without making a change, there is no way of knowing. What we do know is that well into his 5th year, only Paul Graham has a worse winning percentage of all Cougar coaches with at least 4 years on the job.

Glad Cougar

Over under on attendance?

Will be a great day to be a Coug!

Will Jim Walden who called WSU fans cheap but didn't go to the Alamo Bowl because he himself is cheap and/or because he hates Leach be at this game?

If Ernie happens to also win 11 games this season, does he get another roll over year?

10 minutes till tip, and twice as many people as I have seen in Pullman. Still less than 2000

Franks doesn’t seem to be limping so hopefully if it’s an injury it’s nothing serious

Radio reported Franks injury was a hip or hip pointer. Daniels in for the first time in quite some time.

Cougs did seem to have better ball movement for stretches. Still way too many lapses in between bursts of adroitness. Give Ernie a couple of years to get his players in place . . . . . . .oh, wait a minute.

Franks would have made a difference in this game. Interior defense had big mismatches way too often. Elleby carried us the first half, but tried to do too much the second half. Cannon looks better every game. Kunc also looked better. Wade still is getting no elevation at all.

Kunc looked good on offense but still looked lost on defense. With Franks out Elleby tried to hard to make up the difference. Santa Clara is a well coached team and they ran solid offense until they got miss matches then they exploited those mis matches. WSU just goes one on one or two dribbles and a step back 3. We are simply trying to out personnel teams and it isn’t going to work. Wade was getting pushed around tonight and these guys weren’t all that physical. I really expected more from him but he simply doesn’t seem to have what it takes at this level.

Wade isn't the same since the ankle injury.
In hindsight, what do think about their schedule knowing the roster they ended up with?
0-3 in their WHL hockey arena tour (although they missed Everett)
Close to a month between Friel games (where they are undefeated oddly enough)
9 of last 16 games at Friel
Conference is awful (in terms of NCAA bid worthy teams)
Conference in terms of teams that Ernie can beat is the big ?
