Here is a very good video about the possible future of college football. The guy who did it is a Coug but it's not a Coug centric vision of CFB. He takes a wholistic view of the sport. The production is very good, it's like a documentary or news type show. It's on YouTube. There are clips of Coug fans tailgating and being interviewed.

He's right about the danger to the product, and also about the visionaries of the NFL. I think because pro football was the struggling second-tier version of the sport during it's formative years, the men that built it thought more about the overall health and viability of the league because they had to. It was a matter of financial survival. They cared about the fan experience and the relative competitive health of all the franchises because without some parity there's no interest, and then there's no league. 30 programs beating each other up to get playoff spots might make for ok TV, but there's a limited amount of emotional investment people can put into that outside of those 30 fanbases. It's better to be a big fish in a small pond than in a battle with 29 other fish in an even smaller pond that's drying up.
