ND Okafor - Cal to WSU

The longer his posts are, is in direct correlation with the amount of stupidity that will come out.

The difference is that USUALLY coaches don't get the 2 to 4 to 6, etc ppg freshman after their freshman year. They wait until IF they become either a starter, situational starter, 6th man off bench, score about 11, 12, 13+ ppg, or 3 to 5 to 7 blocks per game, or 3 to 5 to 7 assist per game, or 3 to 5 to 7 steals per game, or 6 to 8 to 10+ rebounds per games, at the lower levels, in other words GREAT STATS, THEN recruit, get them.

Most coaches, scouts, recruiters, etc, USUALLY don't get a recruit, even if just a freshman, if they have BAD, LOW, CRAPPY, ETC, STATS.

Yes a 2 to 4 to 6 ppg, 1,2 rebounds, 13 to 17 minutes off the bench players sometimes blow up their sophomore, junior, etc, years, seasons, and sometimes do well at the higher levels, but they are the exceptions to the norm.

And just because WSU has had some freshman that had bad stats, that later did ok, well, good, etc, at WSU, does not mean that it's normal for freshman with lower stats, at lower levels to later do well at the higher level, and be exceptions, and that it's not risky, and that future low Stat at lower level freshman might do well.

That's very risky, Gambly to get a low Stat at lower level freshman, etc.

Either you grab, recruit, get, etc, about a 8,9,10,11,12, etc, ppg, or about a 5,6,7,8,9,10 rebound per game, or about a 3, 4, 5, assist per game, or about a 2,3,4 steals per game, Good STATS freshman, after the freshman season over at the lower levels, or you wait until their sophomore, junior year, and if they GOOD, higher, etc, stats, get them then, and if they have lower, bad stats at lower levels as a freshman, then pass on them.

If Isaac Jones had only scored 7 ppg, 2.7 rebounds, as a freshman at WVC, community college, Smith wouldn't have recruited taken him, after his freshman season over.

BETTER STATS at the lower levels, whether freshman, sophomore, Junior, etc, USUALLY equals better chance to do well at higher level, then those that got lower stats at lower levels.

A lower level player that gets GREAT STATS, at lower level USUALLY has a better chance at doing well at higher level then a player with lower, worse stats at the lower level.

There are exceptions to that, but that's basically logically, factually, usually true, etc.
Is this how you think a coach decides on who to recruit? He looks at an outdated stat line and if they meet a certain quota you offer?

Serious questions. Do you have a basic understanding on Riley offense? Have you watch Vavers play? Can you imagine how a player with Vavers skill set might work well in Riley's offense? How about the rest of the team? Do you have an basic understanding of their skill set? Do you see how a player like Vavers might fill a role on this team?

And since you like stars and player ratings so much, who is the higher rated recruit Erikstrup, Price or Okafor?

I understand that role just fine, I just don't think the Dick Bennet, get a Vaver, approach, and don't think Vaver is good enough to fulfill that role, against WCC competition.

If Vaver's was either a freshman that score about 8,9,10+ ppg, and about 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6 rebounds per game, and about 1.5, 2, 2.5 assist per game, 40% from 3, 83% on freethrows, and about 1.5 steals per game, and was at least a 6th, 7th man off bench, an or situational platoon starter, semi starter, about 20 to 23 to 26 to 29 minutes per game, at that level, and if he played the 3 spot, on the wing, perimeter, and shot 3's, and occasionally use that to drive, score inside. Or if Vavers if he was, as a sophomore scored about 10, 11, 12 ppg, and about 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5 rebounds per game, 1.5, 2, 2.5 assist per game, and 40% from 3, and 83% on freethrows, and 1.5 steals, and shot 3's, occasionally drive, score inside, and 6th man, situational starter, 23 to 26.5 to 30 to 33 minutes per game, etc, instead of only 7 ppg, 2.7 rebounds per game, 37%(Only good stat), then I would be more confident, excited about his ability to play the role he would play in Riley's offense.

I don't think he has that ability based on his lower, semi bad stats at a lower then WSU, WCC, MWC, etc, level.

I think that he will not do good against WCC , MWC, higher level competition. At best he might by the time of his Junior, Senior, 5th year senior, 6th year senior, might have, 1,2 good years like Lodwick did, others have done.

At average, he probably will be a 8, 9, 10, end of bench, end of rotation player, that maybe gets used as a semi specialty player, for a couple, few, semi some minutes per game, and might score a few, semi some points, and 1,2,3 rebounds, by his sophomore, Junior year, season.

At worst, he is a Ben Oleson, Rohosy, production wise, playing time wise.

At average he is a PREFFERED WALK ON LEVEL PLAYER, AT THE WCC, MWC, WSU LEVEL, That if you have a leftover scholly, you go ahead and use it on him.

At best he is a scholly player, worth a scholly.

At worst, you don't have him on your team.

That's at the WCC, MWC, WSU, etc, level.

If it was University of Idaho, EWU, Big Sky, instead of WCC, MWC, WSU, he would do semi ok, in Riley's scheme, system, etc, against Big Sky competition, and would be worth a scholly at that level.

As far as Price, I have already said Price is a awesome player.

As far as which is better, or more highly rated, Okafor was, is more highly rated. Everybody wanted Okafor, then semi somewhat to Abogidi, he got injured, that is why his stats wasn't as good as the stats might have been if he had not gotten injured.

After he decided to transfer a lot of great, higher level programs, lots wanted him.

Price is better in the short term. But really different roles between Price and Okafor. Price is more like a even better Jaki, Okafor is more like Efe, Gueye. Okafor will be the rim protecting center, power forward, shot blocker, rebounder, low and high post defender, drive and dish to Okafor for the Okafor finish, score, lay up, dunk. Later on Okafor might become like Jackson and develop, use low post game moves, scoring. Okafor will do good to start, and probably by the time he is a Junior, he would probably be better then where Price will be as a Junior. But just because that probably so, that does not mean that Price won't be a great Henderson, Jaki, Motum, etc, cross, and a better version of Jaki, as he is, and will continue to be a great player in his own right, just not as good, slightly behind the future Junior version of Okafor.

And that's why Okafor is a 3.5 star, rated higher then the currently better then Okafor, Price.

More higher level programs if forced to choose between either getting Okafor, or Price, would probably choose Okafor over Price.

But any high, higher level program would love to have BOTH, either one of both of Price, and Okafor.

But really hard to compare the 2, because different roles, types, etc, and glad that WSU has both Price, Okafor. If Riley gets more Price's, Okafor's, etc, as far as that level of good players, recruits, instead of more Vaver level of probably not a good player, then Riley will do well.

If Riley loads up on Vaver level of players, he is not going to do that good.

What Riley should have done, do, is first get Price, Okafor, Cowart, LeJuan Watts, and similar better recruits. Then if he had, has a scholly leftover, and can't find, get anybody better, then go ahead and use that scholly on Vavers.

You don't get Vavers BEFORE Okafor, before getting more better players then Vavers, to reload, rebuild the roster.

There really isn't a need for Riley to pull a Dick Bennet, and recruit a player that most to almost all WCC, MWC, level programs don't, wouldn't want.

There is no need for Riley to get a project, like Vavers and project that project, etc.

Riley can pull a Kyle Smith and get a Okafor level recruit, instead of a Vaver level recruit.

Also while Riley overall is so far recruiting better overall despite getting Vaver, his first year, so far over Kyle Smith's first year. The thing to remember is that Riley has the advantage of Smith having Built up a AWESOME REPUTATION, AWESOME RESULTS for WSU, that Riley can Leverage.

Kyle Smith had to come in and FIX Ernie Kent's Dumpster fire.

How well would Riley recruit if he had had to come in and FIX Ernie Kent's DUMPSTER FIRE?

Probably at an or below Kyle Smith's first year.

FYI Erikstrup, Price and Okafor are all ranked the same in the transfer portal at 3 stars and a rating of 88. While Watts is rated below at 3 stars with a rating of 84.

Ding sing ding. What other players ranked 88? Efe, Rice, Bama, Noah and Mahoney. Not that rankings mean much.

You know what is so funny, Mik? You keep bringing up Kyle Smith and his wonderful recruiting, then turn around and diss Ben Oleson and Rohosy, who were Kyle Smith recruits in what, year 3.4? and equate them to Vavers.

Ben Oleson, Rohosy were, are PREFERRED WALK ONS.

EVERY COACH HAS WALK ONS. GETTING A WALK ON DOES NOT MEAN YOUR A BAD RECRUITER.

Saying that Ben Oleson, Rohosy, are WALK ONS, not on scholly, and are 11th, 12th, 13th men off the bench, get 1 minute playing time, get 1 ppg, IS NOT DISSING THEM, and is just recognizing REALITY.

I'm sure they are wonderful guys, and wonderful students, and they help WSU by having, giving the other WSU players, players to practice against, and help simulate the scout on the other team. And they do it for free, etc.

Dissing them would be saying in a mean, spiteful way, saying that they are stupid etc.

A example of dissing, is when El C, kept on calling Ken Bone, BONEHEAD, and kept calling Lodwick names, in conjunction with mean spiritedly putting down his play.

COMPARING to Ben Oleson, Rohosy, and recognizing reality, without being mean, without calling names like El C's BONEHEAD, that is not DISSING.

Many here have compared to Ken Bone, and said Ken Bone deserved to be fired, etc. They were not DISSING Ken Bone, anymore then I supposedly DISSING Ben Oleson, Rohosy.

You throw around the word DISSING a lot, and wrongfully accuse of DISSING a lot.

Hoping Coward and a PG are the 2. Both are needs with the last 4 (?) spots.

I haven't seen a word about Coward..not on the portal boards, etc.. The only thing I recall is that he supposedly told the SR that WSU was his first choice but he had a lot of interest that he was going to check out. That's been nearly 2 months ago.

The rumor is that Coward is a silent verbal, but he is waiting to hear what the NBA says first. If he is told he will be drafted, he will stay in the draft. If he is told he will not be drafted, he comes to WSU.

Thanks '90-- had not heard that. I didn't know he was a considered NBA possibility. The more we watched Wells it was obvious he had a decent shot at it.
