it seems like both boards have forgotten about this upcoming basketball recruiting. The other board in all it s wisdom,is listing 2018 potential recruits. Their monitors are a group of little computer nerds who know precious little about sports This site does not list the WSU potential recruits as a group .Rivals stopped doing it for whatever reason. When is the date when recruits can sign ?There seems to be a paucity of information about upcoming visits, interest or in identifying if the cougs are closing in on potential recruits. There are some interesting possibilities but a few are being sought by many other D 1 schools.

Unfortunately, on the whole, there is precious little interest in Cougar basketball at this time. Just a handful of posters on this board throughout the season and really not that many more on the other board. I'm guilty as well....only a couple of posts this season. I applaud your investment in the program (and the others who post here) even as the team struggles. Too many Cougar fans really don't care right now. Maybe they will if and when the team wins more games. When the interest picks up, you might be seeing more discussion and news on recruiting. Anyway, keep the faith, El C. Go Cougs!

Glad Cougar

But how 'bout those Zags?

Good "old" EK will find some more "hidden gems" in the JC backwaters with the remaining scholarships. This tired, "old" staff will pack their walkers and sift through the leftovers of remaining recruitable kids just like he has since he's been at WSU.

Yeah the zags have built an incredible program for a smaller school. And we shall see if wuffbone is correct in his assessment of the situation. Does anyone have any names of players in the pipeline?

There usually isn't much information until after the Tournament and for us lately even less. Kent said on Brandx they want 2 bigs and a guard.

Different sites show interest in Devante Doutrive (G), David Collins (G), and Malik Ondigo (C). Someone on Brandx said we were also after 6-11" Jacob Hughes (C).

Players will start announcing their intention to transfer as well.

Jacob Hughes was offered in June of last year. I do not know if they are still recruiting him. He has potential and will take a couple of years to develop. Ondigo is probably one of the best big men still available with many schools recruiting him.Devante Doutrive has a younger brother(2018) who is highly rated.David Collins is a new name and one i have not seen. The cougs could use a PG for depth..They went after a couple of other" bigs" but missed.

Add 6 '7 187 F/G Deng Mayot to the mix. He is a Sudanese-Australian basketball Player. He was named to the 2016 All Pangos team and is reputed to be a great shooter. I believe that the coug offer was the only D 1 offer when it was extended. The cougs could certainly use a taller wing prospect with four years of elgibility.

There are two Deng Mayot s. One is a 7'2 pivot and the other is a 6'7 swing. I saw one video and he consistently hit an outside shot. The competition is poor so one cannot tell much from the video. i do not know if it is the same player you watched?

I hope we can land a couple of high schoolers who can shoot and have some upside. Another Franks type wouldn't bother me at all

I would like to see someone come in that can challenge Frank's at the 4. The red shirt is too much of a project for me and I really think Frank's need a "Continent" like attitude shift to be who we all hope he can be. That position, to me, is what we need to shore up for next year if what we are hoping from the post is good defense, rebounds and garbage buckets.

I think Franks is still learning what he is capable of and it made him tentative. He is a way better rebounder than he gets credit for. He showed some decent ball handling skills and an ability to get to the rim in some later games. No question he has a great outside stroke. He just needs to get some to drop. Too bad he didn't get more minutes as a frosh. I think he would have been a lot further along this season.

The number of quality big men still available is small . A quality HS player like Ondigo would be nice but Gonzaga and some big schools are after him. It seems like all of the good juco big men are already signed. So a fifth year senior transfer or a European big man may be in the offering? There a couple of projects like Hughes are out there but will take a couple of years to develop. We will see what Kent and staff are able to accomplish.

I would like to see Franks work on his inside game and mid range game. We keep saying he is a good outside shooter but he has really not proven it. He is good enough to keep teams honest and I'm happy with that. He likes the perimeter but his ball handling and long range shot are not consistent. If you take away his 3 pointers he has a 52 percent field goal percentage which is very solid and shows how effective he can be.

I do like Franks but we don't have anyone that demands attention at this point in our front-court.

If Franks is ever going to be more than a mediocre player, this is the year for him to break out.He has skills but needs to develop his overall game as Jourdand has pointed out.

Franks and Pollard are worth the scholarship but at this point look more rotation or complimentary starters next to someone who demands attention. Better than a Shammi Gill or other Graham level recruit but Motum, Hawkinson, or Hendrickson type talent is what we need. If that happens great but hard to justify at this point.

Pollard is definitely a role player, but one with high energy who could find a place as a starter in some situations. Franks has so much more potential. It will be disappointing if he doesn't start to approach it next year.

I also look at Pollard as a role player but feel he has a bigger upside than people give him credit for.As it stands now Franks,Pollard,.Cooper, and Arinze are the inside players for the cougs.I see better defense and rebounding from these guys. But i really do not see an inside scoring threat. These guys all run the court well so that is a definite plus.Franks needs to emerge and another inside player would help. There will be better depth.and the team will be faster and quicker.

What little I have seen of Chidum intrigues me, but I wont make a prediction on him till I can see him in game situations. I think Pollard will make himself a contributor despite being limited offensively. The reason I am so high on Franks is that I have seen flashes of him being able to score off the dribble, and pull up for the mid range jumper along with a nice perimeter stroke. I agree we have to see more than potential this coming season, but he has the tools. Totally different than a kid like Royce Woolridge who came with a great pedigree and reputation as a scorer, and yet the first time I saw him put up a 3 pointer I cringed.

Sorry avabob but I see way more potential in Pollard than Franks. I said it before and I'll say it again Pollard will be next years suprise/ breakout player:)

He can't shoot. He is going to be a bit quicker version of Junior Longrus. Nothing wrong with that, but until they start taking away points from the opponent for good D, it is a scorers game. Franks may never live to my expectation's but he can shoot, run the floor, handle the ball and rebound, all as good or better than Pollard. I think Pollard will be a solid contributor but he will do it by overachieving. Franks will do it by achieving potential.

It is a legitimate argument who will ultimately be the biggest contributor, but the greater upside for Franks seems obvious to me. Whether he reaches that potential is the question.

I don't expect Pollard to ever be raining down 3 pointers. I do expect him to develop a solid mid-range game coupled with a very good post up game. He missed shots this year but he was a freshman who was not at full strength, even with that he shot a higher percentage than Franks.(although not if you take away Franks 3 point shots) I really like the way he moves without the ball and gets in position to score. I like the way he seems to think the game/ how he approaches his role and his footwork is very good which is really important for a post player. Most of these same traits are what I see still lacking in Franks. A lack of understanding of the game, poor footwork and most of all he doesn't hardly play until he gets the ball. (he did have a few nice backdoor cuts toward the end of the season so coach might be working on it) He also doesn't play defense until his player gets the ball but that's an epedimic in basketball these days.

Our bigs have flaws but nothing new there from a historic basis. I like Pollard other than what Ava brought up early on his nonexistent touch. He's definitely seems like a smart kid who works hard so hopefully he can improve enough in that area for it not to be a fatal flaw.

Franks hopefully breaks out but my fear with him is that he is purely a role player even as a starter. Needs some up with plus ability next to him to hide his weaknesses.

Chidom doesn't appear to have the frame to put on much more weight and doesn't look too athletic. I have wondered whether he projects more to a 3 than a 4 but that will work itself out over the next few years.

I have always liked Pollard and i said so when they first recruited Him. he does understand the game and will improve as he gains strength and confidence. it would be nice if both rapidly improved

I think both will improve. Pollard is smart athletic, and most important an over achiever. I think his energy level will be contagious. Franks is more skilled but hasn't yet figured out how to best utilize his skills in game situations. He may be over thinking a bit out there.

I'm interested to see what Chidom can do, if anything. He just looks like a basketball player. Doubt he'll be able to play the 4.

Chidom is an interesting player. I wonder if he has gained weight or added needed strenght?. B Boatwright does well despite his slender frame.

I actually like the slender guys if they have that wiry strength like Cowgill. I know how physical the game has become over the years buy I think too many of us get enamored with the big bodies.

The big bodies are only good if they are quick. Chidom with about 10-15 pds and work in the weight room would be fine.Any more weight and he may lose quickness and speed.

Add 6'7 215 Juco Kwintin Williams to the list. He averaged 18.5 pts and 8.3 rbs while shooting 55 % from the field during the 2015-2016 season It looks like he sat out last year at Pima Jr College in Arizona . He is a monster dunker , a good shot blocker, and has a 43 inch JR ,but has a good outside shot.. He is being recruited by TCU,TT,UNLV, and others. He was recently offered by the cougs. His video tapes look good.

It looks like a juco teammate 6'8 220 Deion James has been offered. James averaged 21 pts and 12 Rbs in Arizona HS ball .He went to N Car A&T where he averaged less then 2pts and 1 rb .He transferred to Pima Jr for his sophomore year. He is rated a 2 plus by Scout. James has offers from Fresno St,CSU and the cougs,It also looks like grades were the problem with K Williams but he has good grades now according to reports. He is originally from Anchorage Alaska. Perhaps they are a package deal?

Cowgill was really long, quick, and smart. He seemed tentative the first couple of years but it always seemed more of him bracing for contact instead of finding a way to deal with it. As he got older he seemed to use his quickness and length to his advantage to score inside. I've said it many times but one of my favorite players to watch develop from day 1 through his senior year.

Get stronger but don't go overboard. I agree we wouldn't want to see Chidom lose quickness just for weight that probably isn't going to help his game. No idea how good he can become having never seen him beyond highlights.

Will at least look good in the layup line.

Are we back to the quick fix? I hope a few high school kids come up although technically we have 3 freshmen next year due to the redshirts.

The Williams kid seems to be very athletic. Was Bone originally recruiting James or maybe Kent? I feel like i've watched his clip before.

Kwitten Williams is extremely athletic and would be a very good "get" at this late stage.James had a long list of mid majors offering him but no coug offers,It would have been Kent who may have recruited him. He seems to have the same skill set as Chidom, I believe there were many big schools interested in KW but grades were an issue. He seems to have taken a year off to deal with his grades .The grades do not seem to be an issue at this point.I hope the cougs can land him.

There is an article in which KW says that the cougs are recruiting him very hard. The paid article by Bolton basically says that KW says the he "has a strong connection to the "motivational Kent" He is quoted as saying that "i am talking to the cougs every day" Kent must want this guy very bad.The cougs can definitely use some more athletic players who can ball.
