2017 basketball recruiting.

Deion James is now highly recruited . Colorado Purdue,TT ,Boston college and others are pursuing him. He averaged 20.9 pts ,9.8 rbs shot 39 5 % from 3 pt land.45 FGP and 76.7% FTP. He expresses low interest in the cougs right now. However the coug offer was made about 2 weeks ago but it appears he is headed elsewhere.

There is an article in which KW says that the cougs are recruiting him very hard. The paid article by Bolton basically says that KW says the he "has a strong connection to the "motivational Kent" He is quoted as saying that "i am talking to the cougs every day" Kent must want this guy very bad.The cougs can definitely use some more athletic players who can ball.

Ducks have been on this guy since HS in Anchorage, AK. If he still has a Duck offer he's probably there. Big Dance or first round Pac-12 tourney loss------ hammy

He's most likely waiting on their offer and probably gets it. That's how things go in the spring but you never know.

There has not been a duck offer and perhaps their basket is full. Kent may pull this guy in to the consternation of some. Oregon has two 4 star forwards in the fold and numerous offers out to several others. He is not one of their priorities and playing time may be a concern for any recruit. Time will tell and recruits seem to pick schools for different reasons. USC and Oregon won today and UCLA is winning so the PAC 12 may be stronger than some people think

J Sominski a 6 '8 250 juco from South Mountain is the juco whose name i could not remember He averages 18 pts and 12 rbs per game originally a QB to Massachusetts. He transferred to a juco for basketball . So it looks like jucos for big men for Kent this recruiting cycle. KW is the best one, followed by James then Sominski in my opinion.

What I like with him is that he has 3-to-play-3. I don't see him anything like Chidom unless I'm missing something. He's the exact opposite in terms of mostly athlete and probably a bit raw in other areas.

It's the spring. I remember WSU was in on a player in the spring and at the time he had a few offers. He ended up at Duke, barely played, and probably transferred. The bigger programs take some flyers and even though the player should see through it they take their chances.

They are pushing very hard for him so we will see. He could obviously fill a need for athleticism. Hope it works out.

I was comparing James to Chidom. The coug offer to James was made about one week ago.The type of players now currently being recruited are the type of players whom Kent needs to get. They have talent and with coaching can blossom and help a team. This pertains to both jucos and HS kids. The cougs are not going to get 4 and 5 star players ,but these type of guys can compete at a high level.Kent has missed out and has taken flyers on more riskier players the last couple of years. Kent needs to win a couple of recruiting battles to be able to compete with the better teams in the PAC 12. The PAC 12 is showing that they were not a "weak league ",thus far in the Tournament. Basketball teams ,unlike football, can turn a team around with 2 -3 good players . The cougs,in my opinion, are in a position to turn the corner with a couple of key recruits. Flynn has surpassed expectations and the redshirts show promise. Having a very good PG is important to any team.Throw in Franks and Pollard, 2 new jucos, and next years team may be a surprise. Not a world beater ,but perhaps capable of making the NIT in a very strong conference.

An interesting side note is that two of the potential coug recruits have played against each other this season. Big men, Deion James 6'8 220 and James Solenski 6'8 250 played against each other twice this year. In the last meeting. James's team prevailed 121-92. James had 29 pts,13 rbs and 8 assists on 10-14 shooting. Solenski had 23 pts ,13 rbs on 9-25 shooting and 1 blk.Decent figures for both but James appears to be the better overall player much as i thought in an earlier posting.

James is more of a wing? It seems Solenski might be priority #3 of the three players. I do like that he was a QB. Would think that translates to a high IQ player.

James is more of a 4 player. Solenski is interesting in that he is a valid two sport player.Right now the cougs are the only D1 school offering him as far as i know. He only shot 22 percent from 3 pt land so he is primarily a inside player.I believe that he shot 45% overall which is good considering his 3 pt shooting.

Oregon is now expressing serious interest in WSU recruit , Kwintin Williams 6'7 forward, according to reports. However, they are also looking again at Garfield s two stellar guards who were heavily recruited by the ducks before they committed to udub .So it may be a numbers game with the ducks who already have several big men and power forwards.Williams was a high priority for Kent but he may go to the ducks.

Ducks have no open scholarships at this time. However, it's very possible that Brooks and maybe Dorsey or even Bell go pro early and free up a couple of spots. UO is looking at big man Brandon McCoy of San Diego, #6 big guy in the country. They may be aiming higher than Kwinton Williams.

Glad Cougar

I certainly hope they are looking at other people. The cougs can certifiably use his services. Your take was my take a couple of weeks ago,Brandon Mc coy is being pursed by Arizona and many other big schools, My advice to WK is to go where one is really wanted and almost guaranteed playing time. Oregon is stacked with big people and can use a couple of guards more than an another forward.Schools are now hedging their bets in pursuing several players at one time. Players may end up holding the bag if they make the wrong choice. However ,i think that you may be seriously undervaluing KW whom i think is a very talented player. The word out there is that they really want KW. i guess we will soon see as the commitment date is very close.

It looks like Oregon is focusing on Mc Coy and KW in their recruiting for this year. They have two open offers, so it is strong possibility.. If so,consider KW gone. McCoy is a excellent player and would fill the void left by Boucher.Oregon is having a banner year both on the court and in recruiting. However Mc coy is being pursed by many other big schools and can go where he wants. One looks at these players and would love to see a few in crimson.Ernie Kent just does not have the wonderful resources which Oregon has, courtesy of NIKE

It looks like Daejon Davis 6'3 guard from Garfield has committed to Stanford. Now it remains to see where Jaylen Howell ,the second part of Garfield s guards commits. It is unclear if he has asked for his release. If he has not,he will soon ask for it.

Oregon and AC Tony Stubblefield , had an in home visit with Kwintin Williams on March 30. So it does look they have offered. Oregon has the facilities, the glamor. NIKE, and solid coaching. So unless Kent has a trick up is sleeve and a"special relationship" with KW,he will go to Oregon. Oregon is able to get the elite athletes and players and should remain a powerhouse in PAC 12 basketball play.
