6'6" wing from Austin in the 2021 class with offers from Tennessee, LSU, and basically everyone in Texas.
It appears that Coach Smith recruits primarily HS kids and includes a special focus on international players. Not much on JC recruiting to this point. We'll see what he comes up with, but I'm excited about a departure from Kent's heavy reliance on the junior colleges. Good HS recruiting is how our previously successful coaches all built the program.

They recruited and offered Rotchestie in high school so there was familiarity already built. Smith has already shown interest in David Jenkins who is transferring from SDSU and there's potentially another transfer possibility according to CSN.Also remember that despite Dick/Tony Bennet getting 97% HS, they got Rochestie a transfer from Tulane to help build.
If they hadnt done that, the team might have been a NIT championship team, bubble NCAA team instead of sweet 16 team.

Part of the problem with 2-year transfers is the adjustment time. Probably not the best fit for Smith's system.
That "sloball" offense at San Francisco ranked #85 in the nation at 77 ppg. That "uptempo" offense at WSU this year ranked #116 in the nation at 74 ppg. Perhaps taking better care of the ball under the sloball offense is more effective than what Kent was running on offense. Just a thought. But by all means, keep up the negative comments and don't bother to see what Smith actually does. I'm afraid it's going to be a long 5-6 years of anger and bitterness for you. The rest of us are looking forward to a team that will actually get some good coaching, and I suspect the recruiting will actually be better too.Probably little chance to land this guy. He has multiple offers from better basketball schools. It is funny that the photos of Franks and Klay are included in the post. They did not amass their stats in a sloball offense which other recruiters are sure to point out.
I hate it when they post shots of Beasley full like that.

Here's something you posted during the season when the Cougs were 3-10 and several posters were loudly criticizing the job Kent was doing. What's the old saying? Physician, heal thyself. What is funny is that this guy lost 4/5 last five games of the season Then his team lost 89-72 against a Lorenzo Romar coached team in the conference tournament. Some genius you guys are excited about.
I'm sure you will say its a lame excuss, but its said Smith team "ran out of gas" at the end of the season and i think the minutes/games played stats back that up. During the season he did beat Stanford, Cal, swept BYU, and split St Marys with "2 star recruits". So there is that. He also swept Pepperdine in the regular season. What is funny is that this guy lost 4/5 last five games of the season Then his team lost 89-72 against a Lorenzo Romar coached team in the conference tournament. Give Kent some credit for year 1. The team looked a lot better than it did the previous year. However, many saw the assistant choices as mistakes from day 1 and it took him 3 years to correct it. When you waste 3 years you kill your own chances for success.Heres the thing with Kent. He wasted 3 years with assistants who couldnt recruit ants to a picnic. He spent the last 2 years going 8-28 in conference with talent that should have achieved more. There is not one thing that suggests he would have done any better next year. Heck, Ken Bone finished second in the CBI with only marginally more talent than Kent had this year.
I have no idea how Kyle Smith will do next year, but my guess is we win more and look better losing than Kents last 2 teams.
The team that first year looked better but they were all Bone recruits who had gained experience the previous year. It sure didn't appear to me that Kent was trying extra hard to earn his $1.4 million per year. He certainly didn't earn the rollover years.Give Kent some credit for year 1. He got far too long and IMO from the start never should have been hired. I never saw the improvement being a "1-year better" thing but that's just me.He got more than a fair shake and the program has not improved from the day he was hired.

Maybe that shot was taken the last time Gonzaga came to Pullman. All those Spokane "Cougs" decided to show up...
