Sort of feel sorry for Stanford and Cal. OSU and WSU are headed for the MWC (if they'll take us), but what do those schools do? I can't see either one in the MWC, but where do they go?
Really sucks that the teams we invited in (the 4 corners) are all bailing on us. The uw and Oregon BS just slays me. I mean WTF?
From this day forward, each and every time that you engage with a person from any of the deserter rat schools, you tell them what low life MF'ers they are, and that they should be totally embarrassed by the actions of their schools. Eff being polite about it!
Don’t feel sorry for them, Either the Big 10 or Big 12 will pick them up. They might make them sweat for a few months, but the Bay Area market is too big to ignore. The other west coast additions will lobby for them too, to cut down on annual travel.
Best case for us is probably that the Big 10 focuses on the bay and the Big 12 takes OSU/WSU to get to 18. I’d bet the big 10 is ok at 18 for now though.
If the Big 12 lands Stanford and Cal, I don’t see the Big 10 taking us. If the Big 10 takes the bay schools…it seems more likely the Big 12 will pick us up.
But again, I expect that the SEC and Big 10 will continue to poach teams over the next decade, until they eventually have the top ~40 teams and all other conferences are relegated to the lower tier.
Stanford doesn't need to go anywhere. They really aren't dependent on a conference. Cal's probably in the same boat. Even though academic prestige is taking a backseat in the media deals it still matters at their level. Additionally, Stanford has plenty of money and resources until things settle especially in the short-term.
Why don't the four schools stick together and poach the best of what's left? You still have the pac brand name. Boise, Utah State, Colorado State, Fresno, SDSU? Keep that PAC alive and
Because it's $34M payout penalty to leave the MWC and it's a $20M payout penalty to leave the Big12.

Stanford will need ND to pull them into the Big 10, and that may not do it. The Big 10 could have them for a song now, probably the most prestigious non Ivy League school. And the Big 10 passed. They are a different cat, as is Cal.

Florida st. and to a lesser extent Clemson, are in open revolt, and are loud as hell about their intent to blow their conferences GOR apart and get out. The Big 10 will wait until that ACC GOR is busted apart, and then train their guns on a few select schools.

I will never forget (much less regret) my years in Pullman. Met my wife there, and my still-best friends. Built skills for my current career. What a rare and special moment you can never fully appreciate until it’s gone.

I’ve lived all over the US and the Coug thing is so unique; wear a WSU sweatshirt anywhere in the country and people will yell Go Cougs at you. I was part of an NYC Coug group, and also in STL, and ATL etc. Cougs greet each other from cruise ships in Alaska to the beaches in Miami. Then there’s the GameDay flag. Just a crap situation all around. Conferences are putting themselves before the good of the sport as a whole. All of this may be great for the big ten and sec but college football is losing what made it special
I always respected WSU. We (Rutgers) had a very memorable home and home series with you guys back in 14-15!
The conference brand name isn’t worth anything when it’s diluted by filling up with mid-major programs.
The PAC-12’s run as a major conference ended today. If it survives at all - which I doubt - it will be as a lower tier conference with a media deal under $10M.

There may be something going on. Very early discussions I'm sure. But, Ross Dellenger, of Yahoo Sports, makes it sound like the MWC is receptive......
For now, in FB and BB, you will have to rely on your Big Money Donors, and sell your schedule to recruits. You have good personnel at this time. Schedule, when you can, Big 10 and Big 12 schools. It works, and yes, you may have to hold your nose and keep the Apple Cup. The Oklahoma St. Athletic Director said what his fan base wanted to hear when he said he would cancel 'Bedlam' - the Sooner game. But ESPN wants matchups, and they may have something to say to Mr. Yormark about 'Bedlam'. In the end, follow the gd money.

Of course they’re receptive. Adding pac-12 teams will increase their value. This isn’t news.
Apples to oranges regarding Ok/Ok state. Ok state is still in a viable conference and has the resources to compete with OU. The SEC has a leg up and the money is better sure, but it’s nowhere near what the disparity is going to be between WSU and UW if we end up in the MWC or worse. It was already tough enough to compete with the resource disadvantages and they likely just grew substantially.
I have no problem with pissed off Poke fans who don’t want to play UO, but the reality is it can still be a competitive game. The Apple Cup is no more…sure we could sneak up and beat them one out of 10/12 times, but it won’t be the 30% it’s historically been. What WSU fan wants to support getting their teeth kicked in every year to keep some fantastical “rivalry” game? I went to every Apple Cup during Leach. I wouldn’t even turn on the TV. I imagine Husky fans would quickly lose interest as well.
And when the Big 12, Big 10 and SEC decide to play only their league? Or limit non con to 1 game?
If tv is driving dollars, they want match ups. Ohio State vs Appy State isnt gonna cut it.
It isnt just that WSU is left out. They could be aced out of a Power 5 schedule. Leagues with 18+ teams arent hurting for games.

Stanford could play 2 years as an independent. Probably Cal too. I doubt OSU could. We can’t.
I think Schulz is content to let athletics die at WSU. Actions speaker louder than words.
I’d heard stanford and cal to the wcc and going independent in football like BYU did.
Nothing credible. Friends of friends of friends, who know people in high places at Gonzaga. Probably just something that is being kicked around but I could see where it would make sense for those two schools.
BYU couldn’t make it work, and they have a religious (literally) following. Stanford and Cal barely have any following. Their media rights as independents have little value.
Stanford could make it work for a while, but I doubt they really want to fully fund football out of their endowment. Cal might be able to do it partially with UCLA subsidizing them, but as a state school they probably can’t really make it work.
Teams need OOC games to pad their records. College football needs cupcakes. Gotta have bodybag games to supplement the few anticipated match ups each week.
It may not be up to the schools. Take the big tv $$$, you play the games that drive tv ads. These schools may be in for a shock when 3-4 easy non con games becomes 0-1.
Actually, the conference brand name is worth $420M to the remaining 4 schools. Canzano outlined that in an article earlier today.
Ok…but it’s not worth anything to the media, which means a significantly reduced revenue stream…which then erodes its value to the schools.
I say we offer them free & additional (but mandatory) covid shots while wearing magic masks... then tell them they are horrible people if they reject em.

I am changing my opinion. I don't think anyone at WSU wants athletics to die. WSU was caught completely off guard with the schools leaving. I don't think they even thought about this or what WSU should do if this happened. Naive? Don't know. Now they are frantically scrambling to find a home. This will be a slow process. Also, I am coming to grips with this idea- WSU is an awesome attractive school, but somehow the financial attractiveness of us to other leagues is not as attractive.
There are lots of schools who are and have been in this boat. It just stings a little that we are not considered one of the big boys.

FWIW, the SEC doesn't want to play 12 games against top tier opponents. Almost all of them currently schedule two FCS teams per year to let their starters rest. They aren't giving up their cupcakes just for TV ratings. They want to win national championships and know that netting your conference an extra 14+ wins per year is worth more than the money that ESPN, CBS and Fox can give them. ESPN knows it too.
