Just changes absolute everything on offense. That is why I'm so high on De Laura. Minshew made the offense so much more dynamic with his legs. 2020 QB battle is wide wide open...

After watching him play on ESPNU against the St Thomas from Florida combined with the fact he won’t be here for spring ball makes him a VERY long shot to compete for the job thus season in my opinion but I’m definitely excited to see what he can do in the future.

I really thought Gordon would be more capable of moving the chains with his legs.

Gordon just refused to run. He doesn’t see the field well. Pocket presence/awareness of where he is on the field he is lacking that. Usually shortstops have quick feet and are heads up players it doesn’t translate with him.

Minshew also stayed in the pocket. You could argue Gordon is more athletic than Minshew but when you get happy feet and run out of the pocket you severely limit your options.

not just about mobility, about being smart, savvy, pocket awareness.

Gordon wasn't as good as he needed to be this year, given the defense's problems. But he was a lot better than any of us probably expected after basically standing on the sideline with a clipboard in his hands the past 3 years. We'll never know if Gubrud or Tinsley would've done better but that ship sailed long ago. In my opinion, AG was a good, not great Cougar QB who happened to be the successor to a legendary Cougar QB. He probably would've been thought of more highly had the defense, therefore the overall team itself, played better. (That includes a better effort by the coaching staff.)

Well said. There’s a reason Gordon didn’t beat out Minshew.

Minshew had far more PT coming into the starting job than Gordon did.

Did I miss why he isn't enrolling early? If he wants to finish out high school with his friends, that's totally cool...I just wasn't sure if there was other things I missed.

Not really. Gordon played in CC and Minshew was benched at EC.
I would say Minshew had considerably more game experience. He started several games for ECU, attempting more than 500 passes while Gordon had only a handful of snaps and attempted 5 passes in 2 years at WSU before this year (he redshirted one year). Both Minshew and Gordon played a year at junior college.

And had a season as the starter at the Mississippi JC. So basically while Minshew was playing at ECU, Gordon was on the bench.

What kills me the most about AG is that Leach has said he values whats between the ears more than physical attributes, but from what wevewseen of AG his biggest weakness is between the ears. What does that say for the bench....?

Cool. So he had the equivalent of a year of experience in the AAC before taking a PAC-12 snap. What’s your F’in point? Justin Fields is tearing up Clemson with basically zero experience before this season. I appreciate AG giving it his all but GM was on a different level...leadership, awareness, understanding the game, etc. and it’s not cuz he took some snaps at East Carolina.

Yup now Leach is saying that the wishbone is easier to stop than they showed. Where was all the coaching acumen during the weeks leading up to the Bowl? Leach better reevaluate his method of picking his QB. One out of the past three aint good Holliday was a petulant spoiled brat and AG was totally lacking in leadership skills and panicked under pressure . He is seeing what no else can see.The other problem is that he refuses to change QB s no matter if they are having a horrible game.

That Gordon had five pass attempts before he was named the starter and Minshew had 506 attempts at ECU before becoming the starter at WSU.

Awareness, understanding the game, etc. were all things where Minshew was far ahead before taking a snap at WSU.

Thanks for another fresh take.

I'm not sure Gordon ever really had a horrible game this year, maybe Utah. But he wasn't good enough to raise the level of the offense high enough to overcome the defense's deficiencies. There wasn't a QB on the roster who could do that, IMO.

This, from an Ernie lover.

Disagree. Offense had too many turnovers. Gave the defense too many short fields. Pick 6 doesnt help.

How did the offense do against Utah? 1 touchdown.

How bout 13 against the uw?

21 against a Mtn West team?

The defense was bad. Lets not pretend like the offense was lights out. Or that it didnt fu’ck the defense by turning the ball over.

Its a good thing the defense wasnt the Posse. They wouldve kicked AGs azz for leaving them high amd dry so many times. Same for the WRs fumbling the ball all over.

This was the worst defense we've had in the Leach era. Winning 6 games was a testament to the offense. Against Air Force, the guy you want to get the ball all the time got stuffed twice on fourth down runs we took because our defense isn't capable of making stops.
