Strange, seemed like he had decided to stay after all but instead followed through on plans to transfer. Definitely keeps us in the market for another ball handler.

Maybe ICE got their hands on him and deported him. He is, after all, from one of those anti-American countries and we likes to deport them.

Of course, with the current POTUS that could be any one of 194 countries in the world. In Ali's case though, it is........Canada.

Take off to the Great White North, hosers.

Good luck to him. I think WSU lost a JC guard to transfer nearly every year Ernie was coach. This too will come to pass....and with him being a rising senior, it shouldn't have a great impact on the overall program. Definitely need to find another ball handler although Ali seemed to be more of an off guard anyway.

Would have liked to see Ali stick around for his senior year. Had some bad habits probably picked up against lower competition, felt maybe he could be a decent player if he ironed out some of those things in the off-season. Ideally he wouldn't dribble the ball so high off the ground and would make strides on the defensive end. Guess he's gone now so we'll never know.

After leaving I went over to brandx and they have a "new" reporter. He's actually just started and came over from CSN. He's had pretty good scoop and in the article had said it was "iffy" for Ali to come back. Noted his good "assist-to-turnover" but potential "defense" issues and Robinson/Murphy limiting his opportunities.

It could end up good for both Ali and WSU. There are some guards potentially still out there to go after. The SDSU guard is obviously a long shot but Pierre Crockrell is still out there as a high school PG and Pippen, Jr. depending on what he decides with Vandy. Cam Mack was released from his LOI to St. Johns but that doesn't seem like a fit. Who knows but some players who have been connected to WSU.

I suspected this might happen. Ali was the player I thought the least suited for the new style. Wish him luck. Haven’t heard much about Skaggs lately so I suspect he’ll probably end up in a lower D1 league.

The "new" reporter at Clickbait seems legit and I appreciated his work over at CSN. Seems to believe in reaching out to the players in the know and getting to the bottom of things. More of this type of reporting, wherever it comes from, is welcome.

Earlier (before Smith was hired) he had reported Ali was likely to depart. Ali participated in team workouts and I thought Ahmed might stick around. Guess not.

Assuming you mean Wade, who has put his name in the transfer portal, too.

Glad Cougar

Kinda funny how I open my big mouth about everyone sticking around the day two players bounce. Wonder if this is tied to the possibility of Matt Freeman transferring in combined with Pollard sticking around.

Same big mouth and wondered the same on Pollard/Freeman.

Skaggs is long gone.

Clearing out some of the players that were never Pac12 or that seemed to have some sort of attitude is a good thing. Lots of grad transfer guards around.

Kent averaged over 3 transfers out per year. My guess is we wont exceed that ths year. Not sure I want any player who was satisfied with the way this season went anyway. Kents last 2 teams under achieved significantly based on the talent they had.

Well looking at who has left or is leaving at least it appears no significant loss. Kent lost good high quality Point Guards. Loosing a walk-on, a PF that seems to have an attitude, a nice shooter who can't defend, and a PG who is suspect won't be too bad in my opinion. Much easier to recruit and the early signing period will start pretty soon. Lots of potential transfers and graduates as well.

Sounds like you and E town should have said something last spring about Ernie Kent and claiming he was sticking around maybe he would have left. Can you work this magic with a couple of posters :)

Buy in or leave . See it on the high school level all the time . There was a girl in the conference who all she wanted to do is play college b-ball. Her aau coach showed her how to be selfish and not coachable in high school. It was the high school coaches first year at the school and he struggled with her attitude . Before the end of the high school year the coach told her no matter how good she is that she won’t be welcomed back.

The school performed at a higher level without her than with her and no doubt the person who took her place wasn’t even close to her talent.

Hope these kids land on their feet, but some of this attrition is probably a relief to the new coaching staff. Allows him to shape the roster with his guys.

Creative recruiting on the part of the school to retain the services of Ali.
Have to remember going into the Transfer portal doesn't mean they will ultimately leave just like Pollard and other players (Noah Dickerson at the UW when Hopkins was hired). I would think they would rather have more stay at this point so they can focus more on the next cycle. Time will tell though.

Hogwash. the team can ill afford to lose any players Wade and Ali will be seniors and keeping them around for another year made sense, At this stage in the game he will not be able to get quality transfers as his coaching record and Pullman are going against Smith. If one counts Streeter they have lost 5 players all ready. They may not be the last that is for sure.

This team can afford to loose any and everybody if need be! We just finished 11th in a 12 team conference and got beat by the 12th place team at the end of the year, couple that with the worst lost in conference tournament history and your worried about retention? It’s not Ali’s style of play I get that and wish him luck but Wade struggled learning how to play roll the ball out rat ball he would have really struggled under Smith. Your arguments have lost all semblance of logic and are strictly based on hate for a coach who you don’t even know and love for a coach that was a complete failure. It just doesn’t pass the smell test.

I wonder if you have any eligibility left Jourdan ? If players keep quitting they may be hard pressed to field a team. You hatred Of Kent knows no bounds and your logic went out the window about one year ago. The smell of this is not good

Jourdand can answer for himself, but I think a lot of us didn't necessarily hate Kent....we hated the continual losing seasons with no signs of progress. Five years was enough. Quite frankly, I'd rather have fans that are disgruntled with the program and calling for change than fans who don't give a rip anymore. There was way too much apathy going on the past couple of years and it was only going to get worse under Kent.

I was going to hit my ignore button, but it is almost like listening to the rantings of an un named politician who has a similar relationship to facts. You cant turn away

Great statement -- I think the growing fan apathy is what probably forced Chun into pulling the trigger on Kent. It's one thing to wait out a contract if the program is in a poor condition but perceived as "stable" by fans, but a different situation entirely if it's poor, degrading, and losing its fanbase. Most would say we fit into the latter category. It hurts financially to pay out the remainder of Kent's contract, but there's also a cost associated with letting the program degrade further. The closer we get to rock bottom, the longer it takes to rebuild, the harder it is to find the right coach to do that rebuild, the more expensive it gets, and the more difficult it is to return fans to the fold. I'm pleased that Chun pulled the trigger when he did and also pleased with his choice. This is the first optimism I've had Coug men's bball for a couple years.

You are hitting peak Nusser but crying over the loss of a walk on who never saw the court. No logic behind these tears.

Skaggs was ripped by you and blamed for the losing. This is departure no. 2. Again, no complaints here are warranted.

CJ Elleby is likely coming back, unless you believe he's NBA ready.

Ali and Wade are set up to be reserves. For someone who celebrated the departure of Malachi Flynn, you should see these guys are insignificant losses.

Elc...why is this personal for you? I would tend to agree that something was coming together if WSU played like they did in the trip to the desert. But they did fall apart at the end of the season. Are you saying you saw enough progress in an 11th place finish after 5 years to not think about making a change?

I didn’t believe Bone deserved to be fired but I was happy with the Kent hire. I thought he would be able to up the level of recruit WSU was getting... and I was wrong!! That seems to be your biggest problem EL, you take a stance and refuse to back off of it no matter what the evidence. You screamed for Bone to be fired but Kent has been worse and you scream to keep him. Sometimes you just have to eat crow and admit when your wrong.. it’s called integrity.

I think it's unfortunate when someone hopes WSU fails so that they can say they were right. However, when it comes to Ernie Kent, there is no scenario in which a person thinking Kent should have been retained can be proven right.

Based on what he's written, here is what El C thinks about recent Cougar coaches:

Dick Bennett: Didn't like him
Tony Bennett: Didn't like him
Ken Bone: Didn't like him
Ernie Kent: Loved him
Kyle Smith: Already doesn't like him

Sure doesn't look like a Cougar fan to me.

Glad Cougar

By the way EL, even if all 5 leave (I believe Elleby will return) that’s 2 less than left the year before.
