Alabama is the finesse teams, Georgia the power team

True. Alabama will always be dangerous but this is the weakest I've seen them since the Saban era began. Worth pointing out they are highly regarded for their offense, but much of the PPG owes to shootouts. Really no excuse for recruiting #1 almost every year for a decade and not being able to utterly control the LOS against mid-grade teams.

Kinda weird to think about.
Assuming Georgia holds on and wins this...does Alabama still make the playoff?

I think Oklahoma State's loss makes that possible. If Cincinnati also loses, I think Alabama stays in the top 4.

Worse, with OK State losing, Notre Dame might reach #4...where they'll get blown out like they always do when they play teams that are actually good.

Georgia’s DL makes me LOL. Think Of WSUs biggest DL in program history. Georgia has 7 of them.

So far all Georgia's top-recruiting-class not doing a lot of good

Georgia's secondary is getting their first test of the season and Alabama was apparently SANDBAGGING all year long. The offense today is not the same offense from Auburn etc

A championship team needs to be firing on all phases of the game. UGA got by on a savage DL/LB corps and OL, so never had to worry about opening the playbook or holding up in the secondary. This is why so many blueblood SEC QBs look like world-beaters until they get to the NFL and there's parity

Not only that, they're 2 and 3 deep at every position with players who would turn down every P12 offer save for maybe SC/Oregon. They rotate constantly. An embarrassment of riches

Looking back at Georgia's schedule, pretty easy.

Let's keep in perspective we're coming from the P12...

At the time we played them (I'm also a UGA alum), Kentucky & Tennessee were peaking and either would have finished Top 3-4 in the P12 this year. Clemson & Arkansas were up and down, but combined for 10-6 in conference this year and 17 wins overall, so not free games. Auburn was also up and down but took Alabama to the wire with a backup QB. Florida's a terrible team but it's our archrival so anything can happen, and indeed the game started out tight before the defense took over. Then came Alabama fighting for a playoff spot... the rest were junk.

The key issue with Georgia is you have to be elite on O, D & ST to win hardware, and we have the quintessential SEC game manager QB. Kirby's rewarding the walk-on's work ethic after the 5-star starter (Daniels) got injured. Daniels is now healthy but continues to ride the pine.

Remember this is the same HC that sat Justin Fields in favor of Jake Fromm (!) and Fields went on to be an all-timer at Ohio State. Kirby's a defensive/ball control guy and is perhaps just now learning you can't JUST defend your way to a championship - you also have to have (and play!) a Bryce Young type who can extend plays and otherwise put the team on his back.
