Gatton never made it commercially probably because the styles he played - country, rockabilly, blues and what he called red neck jazz. He was an east coast guy who didn’t really tour but he came to Bumbershoot in 94 and then put a gun to his head about a month later.

Here’s another player’s player who I just found out died last Friday. Kind of a goofy singing voice but the guitar playing here will melt your face off:

No, his voice is really cool!. Lindley that is...what a compilation of great instruments,,,..recorded to perfection. Whoever was responsible for mixing that should of won multiple awards!! That sounded really good!!

Need something to talk about before the weekend games, right?

Speaking of which, we have had some great, non-political or attacking threads recently. Let's keep it up. And, this site does way better than X and Y in terms of chatter. New news, not so much. Our last article is the men's Cougs beating the mutts last Thursday? But hey, I don't care, and since I quit subscribing years ago before Hood banned me, I really don't have any grounds to bitch.

All that said, in no particular order:

Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page (Zeppelin)
Jeff Beck (RIP)
Michael Schenker (UFO and MSG)
Donald Roeser aka Buck Dharma (Blue Oster Cult, still going after 50 years)
Jimi Hendrix (oops, that makes 6)

Lots of honorable mentions.........
Eric Clapton
Mark Knopfler
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Roy Buchanan
Carloe Santana
Alvin Lee
Leo Kottke

For top "two finger-style" guitarist.......it's Phil Keaggy.

""Jimi, how does it feel to be the world's greatest guitar player?" To which Hendrix supposedly replied, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Phil Keaggy!"

Phil Keaggy has released over 55 albums....and still alive....at 71.

Honestly, I have heard this many times. But, every time I hear this story, it is a different guitarist who said this, and sometimes it is another guitarist who is talking about Hendrix being the greatest guitarist.

Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme may be the best there is right now. Here is a song from their upcoming album. The single has been out for a few weeks. It has an amazing solo that a lot of guitarists are even talking about.

Me too. I think the first one I heard was Hendrix suggesting they ask the late Terry Kath of Chicago..........who was pretty good.

He is almost as good or equal to Def Leppard's guitarist Phil Colins solo's for Pour Some Sugar on Me, and Photograph.

Also equal or better then CC Deville's Solos to, in Every Rose has it's Thorn, Something to believe in, Nothing But a Good Time, So Tell Me Why.

He is ALMOST as good, but not equal or better than Slash in November Rain.

But since those guitarist are not in their prime, altho they still play occasionally, the guitar solo in the video is probably the best, or one of the best CURRENT solos, guitarist right now.
