Watched the new Yellowstone episode last night. I won't spoil it, but wow, what an ending.

There were ads for Carhartt and Ariat (boots) during the show. Tough cowboy types riding around. So I think, where are these brands made? Stumbled across this website "AllAmericanmade.com", link below. I'm going to dive in and take a long look at it. We all should.

So, where are these "All-American" products made? Surprise!:

Carhartt - 11% USA, 21% Mexico, the rest all over the place. Ariat? Mostly CHINA, followed by Mexico. Interesting that the Chinese boots are considered low quality compared to the Mexican made ones. Very little is US made. I'm sure if I ran through my closet I would find a similar pattern on the labels. The Coug shirt I am wearing right now? Made in Honduras. My underwear? Vietnam. My socks? Mexico. Luckily I buy very few clothes.

Interesting comments on the Carhartt article. The company waxes on about their focus on trying to stay in America, but the article commenter speaks to Carhartt's booming profits and enrichment of their multi-millionaire owners along the way as they continue to move overseas. But yeah let's continue to lower taxes on the very rich.

Solutions? First of all, tax the shit out of the rich. Which will be the opposite trend starting on about Jan 21st. That said, here is where I can support stiff tariffs on China. Americans, you want to buy Chinese goods? Your price just went way up. Now, Mexico and other North/Central/South American countries? I'm OK with sourcing down there as opposed to Asia in general. How better to stem the tide of immigrants across the southern border than to create more livable jobs down there? Source our factories in Nogales and Tijuana and such. F-China.

And Americans. I support a living wage for all, yet our Federal minimum wage stands at $7.25. All these manufacturing jobs we are losing? I don't know what the salaries/benefits are for some HS educated assembly line worker in the US, but I can surmise it is a lot. But we want more so let's strike. Tomorrow comes. Wait, my job just went to Mexico or China, now I have no job at all. Hmmm.

Bottom line? Yes let's get isolationist and focus on the Americas. And did I mention tax the shit out of the rich? While I support Ukraine and Taiwan and others, at the end of the day those are Europe's and Asia's problems.

Finally, it is a conundrum that as we shift our jobs overseas and south of the border, the migrants keep coming to the US for a better life. Whether it failed or not, Kamala's (soon to be former) task to identify root causes for migration deserves a second go. Would like to see more of that under Trump.

I wear Filson. I know where it’s made. Lasts forever making it a high value brand. Have a stitch come loose? Free replacement. Fits me too, which is a plus.

"According to our analysis, only 20.1% of Filson’s products are listed as “Made in USA.” All other products either have qualifiers (example: “made with imported material”) or are made internationally.

19.4% of Filson products are made in Bangladesh, 14.9% in Vietnam, 12.5% in Sri Lanka, and the rest in several other countries. We have a full list of all manufacturing locations in a table below."

Mostly Filson Seattle style and Filson hunting/ hiking but one Filson AK shirt. No Filson lumberjack. I no longer own any trees.

Nothing against gay guys dressing like lumberjacks, but this thread is intended to be a thoughtful discussion of the "American-made" vs not-so-much reality we face. Not a string of ads for Gayman's Quarterly.

Not shocked at your bigotry or your need to control speech and crowd think.

Very UN-Couglike for sure but, you do you, “loyal”

Thought it best to capture this before you edit it away.

Your verbal vomit aside, that table contained in the article will be helpful later

I'm not a Yellowstone fan, (couldn't get past the first Season), but.....

Taylor Sheridan's new Landman....is sensational.

Watch the first three episodes of Landman Season 1 on Paramount +

Realistic
Authentic
Filmed on location
Taylor Sheridan

I hear Lioness is good, too.

I know you won't, but if I ask really nicely can you kindly just put me on ignore and/or just stay out of my threads? 5 of 10 posts on this one so far are yours. I have been refusing to reply to your drivel for a while but it hasn't worked. I'll start again after this post.

And no I'm not going to edit my recent post. I thought it to be quite clever. And speaking of your favorite products, you should also be comforted to know that KY Jelly is made in England. A product my lady friends don't need. :)

After two episodes, Landman is ahead of Yellowstone.

Don't underestimate Taylor Sheridan's ability to mess things up as time goes on.

Landman is great. Demi Moore looks sensational. I have been trying to hold back on P+, watched episode 2 after Yellowstone on Paramount last night. The scenes with the daughter and BB's roommates were hilarious and titillating. Probably will stream Episode 3 today or tomorrow. And rewatch the last episode of Tulsa King. Another great show. Hoping Season 3 makes it to screen.

While I am reluctantly running out the string on Yellowstone, I think it will end poorly. Only 3 episodes left. And it is annoying that it is increasingly becoming an ad for the supposedly pending "6666" series. Bet Teeter and Ryan sign on to that one. For me? No thanks.

And Lioness? Watched one episode, yeah it was good. Love Zoe Saldana. Found her in the movie Columbiana from a few years back.

Just wait until you watch episode 3 of Landman. It's the best.

As far as Lioness.....I hear Season 2 is better than Season 1.

When football comes to an end....it sure gives all of us more free time, right?

Two things gives us more time. The off season or a steady losing season. 🤣

Not much is made in the USA. Even less in stuff that requires relatively unskilled labor like clothing. Much more profitable to pay Chinese kids $7/week than to pay Americans $7.25/hour....and then have the Americans bitch about working conditions, hours, etc.

On the surface, I'm not wild about the Chinese tariff idea, at least until viable alternatives are in place. Clearly, whatever additional costs the manufacturers see, they're going to pass to the consumer. Always have, always will. But...if those producers can set up shop in Mexico/Honduras/etc. and dodge the tariffs, maybe it kills a couple of birds. Maybe it creates a more liveable situation in those countries and slows down the arrivals at the southern border. Maybe it pulls the economic rug out from under China and makes them play a little nicer. Either way, it's going to cost American consumers more, but maybe with a smaller marginal cost difference they'll buy less cheap foreign crap and maybe Walmart will start to feel the pinch (I hate Walmart).

Whatever happens, there's one thing I'm sure of: the corporate overlords will find a way to make it profitable for themselves.

Autocrats gotta autocrat?

I’m more of a constitutionalist.

I believe strongly in the freedom to engage in the public square.
So, there is your answer.

Research companies that will thrive with the changes, invest in them, profit.

Gay? How could you. Goober prefers to be known as a “Metrosexual Lumberjack”
