Anyone else see this?

Did Anthony Gordon have any offers coming out of CCSF? Any JC player with div I talent and having recently completed their AA would have to scream loudly in order to be noticed. Teams have to be looking for a player in order to fill a specific need on their roster. Otherwise, teams like Utah State make a living discovering these guys and developing them into starters. It's amazing how successful some teams are with JC players and any team could do it if they need to...like getting Gauta and Sagota at this time of year.

He can play. He prob needs a lil more weight. Maybe 275-285. But he runs and hits and gets off blocks and makes tackles. If he were 6’5” he prob has offers all over the country.

Let’s see what he can do.

The Gordo situation is a bit different. JC QB's get lightly recruited. We went after Gordon because we needed someone a couple years down the road and struck out on HS QB's that year. If you have the measurables and grades as a JC guy, you'll get offers from all over the country.

Agreed. Let's see what he can do.

It seems this class, even before Rolo arrived, was filled with guys who don't necessarily have amazing combine numbers but are football players. It's going to be interesting to see who works themselves into contributors at the P5 level.

Gordon only had walk-on offers I believe. At this point...they have to search through so much film offered or requested in order to find someone with Div I talent and a degree.

By September he will be 265-270 if he works hard. Then the staff can decide if they need him this year, or prefer to wait a year for him to be 275-280. I don't know how quick he is, and against JC talent it is hard to evaluate. But by September the staff will know. If he is quick enough, then 265-270 will be enough. But it also depends on how the other DT's develop. No reason to burn a season when you have a RS if he would be 5th in the DT rotation come September.

All in all, another option is always good, especially at DT. And he appears to have a lot of up side. As to which season that will appear, we'll just have to wait and see. It is not just up to him; it is also up to the other DT's on the roster. Looking forward to spring ball!

He’s certainly worth the flier, but at only 225lbs, I’m concerned. This also concerns me.

Mujahid holds other offers from Northern Arizona, Morehead State, Jacksonville University, Adams State and Southwestern Oklahoma State.

There’s no way he’s 225–his rivals profile has him at 275.

Yeah his tape is good. Uses his hands well and super quick. You are right 10-15 more lbs of good weight and he could be a force inside...another quick get off guy like Herc. Be interesting to see if they put him inside, end, or all over the place. Like what I see though!

I dunno if he has the size to play inside. He would get engulfed by interior OL. Herc wasnt the norm. It is a tough comparison because it is rare to find a player that can handle being inside at 250.

Edge and inside DL isnt the same. Some kids can handle the banging around of being inside and some cant. Some kids are just better on the edge with one arm free.

I would like to see what he can do as an edge rusher.

Typically a lot of highlight films show kids making tackles when no one blocked them. Not that it wasnt a good play... but no one blocked you. It would be like watching a basketball players highlight reel of uncontested layups. Hey great you made a lay up. No one was playing defense. The interesting thing to watch for on defensive highlights is how well they engage and get off blocks. As a coach you have to know if that is something you can teach kids effectively. Cause if you cant, you cant bring that kid in. Football is not so easy that you can just run around uncontested and make tackles.

I liked that this kid has some zip. He makes plays. He gets off blocks. He has energy. He played well. Get him some pads and lets see what he can do.

Great analysis. To me it’s clear he has great hips and rhythm. Important traits for grinding linemen.

And let's see how much useful weight he puts on between when he arrives and fall practice. 250 is a non-starter for most kids inside. But if he gets to 270 pretty quick it is another conversation, and at 280 with some quicks we have something. If his frame is able to take it and he puts in the work, 3 to play 2 is plenty of time to see results.

Agree.

The weight difference between a 275 DL and 305 OL is typically fat. Maybe the OL wears down the DL over the course of a game... thats on the coach to rotate guys and keep them fresh and fast. I am more concerned with lack of height and long levers. He has to maintain the speed off the ball.

Great analysis FroRo.

Looks like the D-Line is going to be a real strength, real soon.

He has the chance to develop, but some of you are throwing weight gain numbers around like it’s nothing. It’s March now, and I’m sorry, but the dude ain’t weighing 275 by Fall camp. If he does, we’ll need to get him on weight watchers, cause it won’t be a good gain.

Who says it’s by fall camp, 3 to play 2? A 20 year old kid can add 5-10 pounds of lean muscle in 5 months + another year another 10 pounds if the strength coaches are doing their jobs.

Now you or I? Yeah at least half of that weight is pure jelly doughnuts.

The Kid is listed at about 255 is + or -1 pound

The kid can EASILY get 5 to 10 pounds of muscle by either fall camp an or by the end of his season 1 year.

That would put the kid at about 263 ish.

Then by the end of Spring Football/Spring game, etc, after that:

About 265 to 267 to 269.

Then by the next fall camp:

268 to 273.

Then by the end of his season 2?

272 to 274.

Then by the end of spring football, spring game after that?

273 to 275 to 277.

Then by fall camp of season 3?

276 to 278 to 280.

Then by the end of season 3?

279 to 281 to 283.

So thats about 27 pounds of mostly muscle by the time he leaves WSU

IF IF

He works his a$$ off.

So getting 5 to 10 to 15 pounds of mostly muscle by the end of fall camp, by the start of game 1 of season 1, IF and assuming he works his a$$ off to go from 255 to 260 to 265 to 270 isnt a stretch, and is realistic, IF, assuming the kid works his A$$ off.

Your wrong.

PS forgot to say, add, that in addition to CONSISTENTLY working his A$$ off, CONSISTENTLY he eats right, CONSISTENTLY hits the weight lifting room with a vengeance, etc

"I would like to see what he can do as an edge rusher." Yes. He could do that 260, but they do have the luxury of a red shirt year.

He needs to be blazing at 260. Otherwise he is just running into a parade of 6’6”+ 300+ tackles from every team on the schedule.

He is a tweener. He is too short and too light but he makes up for it by being a good player. He MUST either get faster off the ball to counter the size of the OL or get a bit bigger while maintaining his speed to handle their size.

Speed matters. It helps a lot. Ultimately though he will have to take on a block from a player much bigger than him. He either has the speed to put that kid on tilt, the weight and strength to handle that kid or both. Having none of those things means his is just a speed bump.

Weren't you the one who proposed he be tried as "edge rusher".

He sheds blocks well and does a good job tackling the ball carrier. Wondering why his offers were Morehead St, Jacksonville, and NAU plus some D2 schools.
We are now beating out schools like Moorhead State and Jacksonville? Takes me back to the PW era. Hope he is a hidden gem and my concerns unwarranted.

As Biggs has said, the kid definitely LOOKS the part.

Sometimes kids are sometimes just overlooked, fly under the radar, and dont get recruited, are not offered.

Like Biggs has said, that the western coast, half of the united states, and out in the countryside, away from metros, etc, is the WORST recruited.

Because of that kids fly under the radar.

One only has to look at Utah, Utah State, Wyoming, BSU, etc, that makes a living on these types of underecruited kids.

One only has to look at Price/Doba recruiting Will Derting.

Is there any doubt that Will Derting was a 3,4, 3.5 star caliber recruit, that should have been ranked, given 4 stars by at least 1 recruiting service?

Why wasnt Derting higher ranked?

Because Derting lived in a town of population 15 people, where he had to go to a gas station to use a phone, where recruiters were not aware of Derting, and didnt offer him.

Now admittedly that has changed somewhat today, as recruiters are more aware now then they used to be.

But recruiters still miss Derting like recruits.

Does that mean the kid is a Derting? I dont know and we dont know.

But the kids film, look, height, weight, stats, etc, etc, make him the kid LOOK, PASS THE EYE test, etc, part.

And I trust Rolo to make the right evaluation on, about the kid.

Rolo is no, not a Paul Wulf type, who is going to misevaluate a kid.

Rolo has Leach's ability to evaluate recruits, which is one of the reasons why Rolo won at Hawai, which is extremely hard to do at Hawai, and why Rolo was either able to beat, almost beat, beat a couple, few, some Pac 12 teams.

But be that as it is, whether Rolo can evaluate recruits or not.

WSU is a place where you both need to both beat out programs for 3,4 star, higher rated, higher offered, etc, recruits, and be able to find under the radar, derting type recruits.

The WSU coaches like Paul Wulf, who cant, couldnt do that, those 2 things, and couldnt develop, coach, didnt have a good system, etc, LOSE.

The WSU coaches like Price, Leach, Raveling, Sampson, Bennet, Smith, and probably Rolo, who can, do, evaluate, beat out for recruits, develop, system, coach, WIN.

So I am not worried about Rolo recruiting this recruit.

We Shall see if the kid, pans out, develops.

And even if Rolo misses on this kid, its not the end of the world.

Or at least we will see in time.

Until if then, This kid definitely looks the part, and that's why some are excited about this.

Let them be excited.

You dont have to worry, wring your hands, say that's what, where you are, bring that excitement down.

Biggs didn't say the kid looks the part. I believe he said tweener who had a lot of work to do. You can be hyped up on the kid with no FBS offers if you want, but don't lump others into this.

I'm in wait and see mode.
