I work in the communications business and I believe this would have worked if they accepted the $25 million they got offered plus increase with target subscribers. I would have gladly paid for Apple TV to watch the Pac 12 games. I don’t think people know the direction media is going. Cable TV is a dying product just like CDs, digital cameras and many other products. It’s all streaming digitally.

Doing MLS that way, and have no complaints. Well, some of the announcers are kind of lame. Got it free with T-mobile.

We can watch live or whenever we want.

I have to pay for it but still like it better than ESPN+ as there are really no blackouts. I also like the ability to listen to the home announcers instead of the Apple MLS+ crew.

Kliavkoff still stands to collect, what 10 million in his contract with the PAC-12. What a JOKE! He should be tarred & feathered alomng with Larry Scott and the nutty Professor/idiot with the BS idea of 50 million value. We all suffer and those A-holes keep getting paid millions! Where is the justice??

Agree. You go all in with Apple.

To your point, no one thought "iTunes" now Apple Music would be the norm. I have all my music on subscription with Apple.

Once Apple TV has all of the ala cart networks, and programming I want, then xfinity is cancelled.

Mickey Mouse knows the cable subscription model is doomed and is rumored to be trying to get the NFL, MLB and NBA in as equity partners on ESPN. Why? Those 3 can provide a lot of live content that ESPN can sell.

none of those leagues want all their eggs on a sinking ship.

Land of golden parachutes man. That’s how shit like this goes down is because for people like the university president and the jaggoffs they placed at commissioner, there are never consequences for sitting around with your thumb up your butt…and more often than not they actually end up continuing to get paid MORE. I can guarantee every related Exec at the bailing schools will end up getting fat raises over the next couple of years.

Apple's production quality on MLB broadcasts is amazingly good in terms of camera work and sound. Some of the announcers aren't everyone's cup of tea, but overall, I like watching games on Apple TV+. Just another thing to be pissed about.

Announcers are the most overrated part of a game, and have zero to do with why you watch the game. I don’t understand why they pay Tony Romo $10 mil+ to not shut the F up during a game you’d tune into anyways. The guy is awful. Tom Brady has like a standing $20 mil/year offer and hasn’t even done a broadcast yet. It’s insanity and complete waste of money by the networks, who half the time aren’t even competing with each other when there’s only one game on during a time slot.

This will make you more angry...

Romo is getting $18mm/year (10 years at $180mm), signed in 2020
Brady is getting $37.5mm/year (10 years at $375mm), signed in 2022

The best announcers know when to shut up, and let the audience take things in.

Yeah, with you generally. Apple took things a bit further by, in addition to an ex-player and a relatively standard announcer kind of guy, including at least one "this person is here to just crack some jokes and look cute" person. I'm fine with the second half but the first part does, in fact, get a little annoying when they're actually talking. If you're in the right mood, it's OK. Don't know if I could tolerate that during a Coug football game if they were to try it, as I doubt they would. I think they mainly were just trying to make baseball more relevant to a relatively young audience.

🤮. What’s worse is the guys who did it right…Dick Enberg, Merlin Olsen, Trumpy and Crique, Charlie Jones…these guys got Pennies compared to todays assholes, and they made the game come alive! God I’d love to have them all back- If anyone could figure out an AI enabled announcer technology that could take those voices and have them broadcast todays games…I’d pay $2K per season for that! Gotta have that kind of technology right?!

See my post above. Now imagine an option in Apple streaming where you could choose Keith Jackson and Bob Griese to announce every Coug game. They would double their sub revenue…easy

I liked Fouts too. Not quite as much as the other guys but he was funny.

For college guys…Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson also a couple of favorites. I do like some of the current guys too, Herbie and Fowler are very good. I would be fine grabbing any of those voices for Coug games but I’m going with Jackson/Griese every time.

Got a soft spot for Petros papadakis from the old Fox sports northwest too.

Fouts and Keith had a great rapport during those early 2000s runs. Maybe it's the nostalgia for me. They used to leave their production equipment in Pullman and come back the next weekend, lol.

I like Nessler but I can tell he's lost a bit of that bravado in his voice. Danielson drives everyone in the SEC (and now likely B1G) nuts, so he cracks me up a bit.

I like Fowler/Herbie as they call a fair game, but they don't give me full top of the line vibes. I don't think CFB has a "voice" right now.

Petros is awesome. Cool guy and really built a great career for himself since those FSN days.
