Are we gonna win this battle?

Meh, I don't know. Lincoln Riley and the attraction of SC will be hard to overcome. We're definitely the dark horse in this race.

If he wasn’t from that area I would have like our chances. He had a great season in Moore’s defense but playing at home for his last year might be too much to resist.

Brian Ward was his DC and position coach. Greene was his quality control coach. He knows the system and we are replacing both our starting linebackers. I think we win this battle.
Dickert said they were going to add a few more pieces to the defense in the coming days. I assumed he was referring to someone in the portal or JC who could midyear enroll. This guy hopped into my mind as who CJD thinks he's going to close.

That would be an encouraging sign through the end and going into the next recruiting season.

This kid and Travion would be an athletic duo. 51 and 52 backing them up. Get a grad transfer at safety and DT and our defense would be lights out.

Glad to eat crow on this one.
No! Biggs should eat crow. Biggs said "recruiting is done, it's over"...there's a lion outside......this was prior to naming Dickert as the Head Coach. Biggs did not believe in Dickert, and "Dickert does not command a presence when he walks into a room".

I'll tell you, if there's anyone that holds the most impressive Press Conference in the world, it is Jake Dickert. He's probably great with mom and dad, too.

This is just the beginning. Yep. No question he hit the ground running.

Guess who came into my Open House yesterday?

Kalen DeBouer, and two of his other assistant coaches. Spent 6 minutes in conversation with DeBouer. Honestly, not impressed at all. Sorry, not to be biased, but he just did not come across like he's going to have the same numbers as he did with Fresno State. He said he knows Dickert and Brian Ward very well from 20 years ago at University Sioux Falls. They were also the Cougars.

He saw my plates on my car.....and the rest is history. He arrived of course all decked up wearing Huskies gear, all three coaches.

He referred to us as "Cougars". I told DeBouer "we are "COUGS" and not Cougars, meaning the local fans referring to, etc. He said, yeah, at USF we we're "The COO"..as in Cougars.

You think DeBouer has hit the ground running? He had no chance. He had to fly up and do his Press Conference with Jen, while our man Dickert deferred his Presser and went to Seattle, Bellingham and Southern California. Also, DeBouer's needs to transition his family up here, and find a roof over his head. That in in itself is going to be a major challenge with zero to tight inventory, since it's the winter months.

Of course I took the high road, was a nice "Cougar" and wished him the best and good luck on recruiting.

We should be so thankful we've got the right guy, and we are running light years over U-Dub. I'm talking to you Biggs.

Dickert's foundation was already in place. The Rolovich era was the best thing (since CML) that's happened to Washington State.

I think Dickert will do almost EVERYTHING, but..... not sure he'll attract top QB's that Leach did.

His family likely won't move up here until after the season. If you remember, former WSU receiver coach Spurrier's family never joined him up here. Regarding finding a place to live, someone in the athletic department will find an apartment or house for him to live in for now. Plus, if it came down to it, I am sure there is a rich alumnus with property.

What do they have now? 9 high school players and 2 transfers? Yeah, amazing job. Everyone pivot left in the circle jerk.

Given what happened this year, the guys the signed are pretty impressive in my opinion. This class could have been nobodies, but they managed a bunch of seemingly talented and fairly coveted players. Let’s see how they close out February.

We’ve not had a coaching staff for 2 months until a couple weeks ago. Don’t be a jackass. This is a huge pull considering the circumstances and also a statement to other kids on their radar. I didn’t expect this kid to choose WSU either but I’m happy to admit I was wrong and pretty excited to see how they fill out this class.

From what I heard that Rolo stopped recruiting in August. Once he was gone Dickert started to get offers out again. UW signed 6 guys. I expect the new staff to get after in January.

I tell you what, the new Idaho coach put on perhaps the greatest opening press conference I’ve ever seen.

If Dickert got hit by a bus tomorrow, hiring Jason Eck wouldn’t be a bad thing. They may have caught lightning in a bottle.

Im not making any comments about the kids.

Im not saying that the staff hasn’t had issues.

Don’t be a jackass. 2 years to get 9 high school players. They have the entire nation to recruit. They have an off field staff to dig for kids and do the legwork. They have full scholarships to offer to play football.

They got 9 high school kids. 2 from one city and 1 from California, the largest talent base on the West Coast. One kid.

What did they do with all this time and resources??? Rosenbach went fishing in Montana. That’s why he didn’t sign any kids. What did these guys do for 2 years leading up to this date?

I don’t have an issue with a lot of the kids. Some good players.

I have issue with the effort, salesmanship and leadership of the staff.

If someone was paying you hundreds of thousands of dollars to coach football and recruit football players…. could you sign more than 2 kids if you had 2 years runway to the signing date? Yes or no.

For your own professional development as a coach, you can’t stop recruiting if you’re an assistant. You need those relationships with kids, parents and coaches. If you find yourself out of a job at the end of the season, having those relationships in place will help you find a new job.

Seeing 10 kids on signing day with 5 coaches that had all this time, a recruiting staff and financial resources at their disposal isn’t a ringing endorsement of those coaches. What did they do with their time???

No one with options was going to commit to an interim staff. What would you prefer they do; fill up on Big Sky players, or wait till after Dickert was announced and sign some kids with Pac12 talent?

And there’s still the other signing day in February, right? The class isn’t done.

Look at Wulffs first class. He came in with almost no one on board and filled possibly the worst recruiting class I’ve ever seen at WSU.

Leach, at least had about a dozen kids to choose from. Kept about half of them and filled out the rest of the class on name recognition.

Dickert came in as an interim coach for 2 months, then has the early signing period to deal with. He also had, what, 7 kids to start with? Thanks again Rolo!

They. Didn’t. Have. A. Head. Coach. Officially now a couple of months ago but the former guy also wasn’t doing shit for recruiting for a while because he didn’t want to be here. WTF do you want Dickert and a bunch of newly hired staff to do in a couple of weeks? I’m not proclaiming this to be the best class in school history but let’s appreciate what they are doing in a short amount of time rather than whining about things that are clearly related to Rolos lack of GAF.

Well they fired the head coach and the recruiting coordinator. That’s without taking into account the other coaches. It would make sense how this class stalled, despite still having some of the coaches around. Why would a kid commit here, use one of his 5 visits, etc etc. when he won’t even know if anyone associated with the program will be here? I think firing the two most important pieces to recruiting was basically a death blow to any growth of the class.

And there’s still the other signing day in February, right? The class isn’t done.

They have to work. They have to continue to build relationships. They have to keep calling. They have to be on the road. They have to keep evaluating kids. They have to be ready to roll when the head coaching decision has been made. If they have been doing their jobs consistently with good effort, they come up with more than 2 kids per coach in two years.

WSU has paid these coaches handsomely. Literally put them on a path to being millionaires. Fo realz. And what did WSU get for its money? 1 high school player in California and 2 high school players from Bellingham.

I understand there is another date coming. I dont believe I have unreasonable standards. Im not bitching about a lack of 4 star kids. Im not bitching about not having a full class of 25 high schools kids and 7 transfers.

Im saying that 9 high school players with only 1 from the biggest base of talent on the West Coast isn’t impressive at all. In fact, it looks lazy as hell.

You can complain all you want about Dickert and company for not doing enough, but we weren’t offering kids. If you look at the signings, we only signed 2 offensive players. The rest are defensive players. Dickert, Banker, Cooper kept after the kids we had. Got a few more when they could offer. Your favorite signee was offered in the summer (Banker) and committed in November. So Wazzu was out there recruiting kids they offered. Allen and Smith handled themselves well in this and will land somewhere. The guys fired in October probably not.

We still have the February signing period. If we have 15 guys signed by then we can all freak out.

They. Stopped. Working. Or. They. Suck. At. Recruiting.

For fuc$s sake it isnt a couple of weeks. Do you not understand that??? Dickert should have been on kids for 2 years!!!’ This wasnt two weeks to bake a cake. This was two years! Holy tap dancing Moses.

Im not whining any more than you are making excuses for piss poor effort.

How much did WSU pay these coaches for two years AND their off field recruiting staff? A million? A million and a half? And they got 10 kids signed. Not good enough.

They still had all the prospects information. The guys that are left start calling those kids. It isn’t unrealistic to get more than 2 kids per coach. At all.

Just trying to be objective here, but if we don't hire his DC at Nevada, we don't get this kid. I'm sorry, but we don't. I'm thrilled he's here and I'm sure Dickert was able to make a strong impression on this young man and his family. But, the Facts are we hired Ward his DC and that was the sales pitch even before they showed the young man the vacancy sign at LB where Jahad Woods once stood.

You can blow Dickert up all you want, the proof is in the lack of numbers and reflects on his leadership and salesmanship. 10 kids, 2 from Bellingham and 1 from California doesn’t scream awesome.

Where is the downside to offering kids? If JD was fired the new coach can come in and pull all the offers. If JD is hired the offers stand.

They did a piss poor job getting kids to sign for December. The lack of signees isn’t a ringing endorsement of their salesmanship. If the kid was sold on WSU he signs. If they had built a relationship with him for 2 years, he signs. Now that kids have a true deadline to get this deal done, they’ll have to choose. They cant push off their decision.

2019 ~ Coaching transition class
2020 ~ Covid
2021 ~ Another coaching transition

Can WSU handle 3 classes in a row like this without having a serious downturn?

Dickert and the 3 announced coaches for the 2022 season suck.

Atuaia and the RB from USC with the 100/200 wheels seem to be getting to know each other. He might be here soon as well.

The kids didn’t know if Dickert and “staff” we’re going to be here until 3 weeks before signing day. They didn’t know who the OC or DC would be until a week before. The additional kids we wanted that weren’t established long term chose other offers that had non fluctuating staffs. It’s not that crazy. We axed the guy who was coordinating our recruiting in October and promoted a staffer. We had limited visits because Rolo was out of it. If I have offers from Arizona, OSU, and WSU and am sitting there 2 weeks out from signing looking at WSU with a new HC and no OC,DC etc. I’m likely choosing the option where the situation is stable. I guess we just see it differently. There is no two year relationships when half the staff leaves and there isn’t a new staff until Dec. 10th. This is as “hands tied” as a coaching staff will ever be in recruiting. Replace half the staff including main recruiters and planners in October, run an interim staff with fill in coaches until later November, try to sign guys two weeks later. Dickert was swimming from October on trying to be the HC with a bunch of fill in coaches. The # of recruits is totally understandable given the situation.

There are 2 year relationships with the half that stayed. Asinine to say there isn’t. And if those guys can’t recruit, they gotta go. You cannot be a liability in recruiting as a coach.

Im not saying there wasn’t issues. Im saying even with those issues they could only get 9 high school kids. That sucks.

Full scholarship to play P12 football.
$60,000,000 football ops building.
Winning team.
Brand new coach.

And you can’t get kids excited to come play for you??? Be a salesman.
