I am sure most of you have read about Beason by now, first he was ineligible due to transfer of classes not transferring over, and now it looks like we will never see him in a Coug uniform. Not sure what happened here, he seemed to be fitting into the system and was on the depth chart. Fortunately we are deep at receiver, but the whole class and grade transfer issue might rear its ugly head in the future with the next transfer, I would assume they have it covered next time.

Look, unless he was going to HVAC school I'm failing to see how lack of credits keeps him from playing. What am I missing?

Athletic department completely dropped the ball here. No excuse for not vetting his transcripts and clearing them before fall.

Zeriah Beason does remain on the roster FWIW.

PULLMAN – Wide receiver Zeriah Beason is no longer a member of Washington State's football program, Cougars coach Jake Dickert told media members Monday.

HVAC school? I'm missing the reference...?

FWIW I'm a program advisor to the best JC HVAC program in SoCal. 80% go to work in the industry (2/3 field, 1/3 office), 20% go on to get 4 year tech degrees...typically either ME or MET. Regardless, even if he was going to HVAC school, if it is at an accredited JC program, the credits will transfer and would presumably keep him eligible.

And I can't even use the old "underwater basket weaving" class description to talk about worthless credits. That was a 400 level Anthro class when my wife took it at WSU. Almost all baskets are weaved under water (have to keep the reeds supple). That doesn't mean that you have to be underwater yourself to do it, but it sort of defeats the humor of the underwater basket weaving class description. Not a bad factoid for the cocktail party circuit...

I would imagine that most degree specific HVAC classes don't directly transfer to a 4 year college for a business or psychology degree, but I could be wrong.

Point is: wtf does it matter what transfers? If he has the grades to enroll, I don't understand what the problem is. Why would xfer credits matter? He just retakes the classes at WSU.

Just to clear this up. In CA, JC's (at least all that I know) are semester system. You have the option of getting a certificate or an AS. The HVAC certificate requires the 40 semester hours of HVAC specific classes. The AS requires that plus 25 more hours of what we used to call GUR's (general univ requirements) which are humanities, math & sciences. If you wish to move on to a 4 year school you want the AS. If you are pursuing an ME or ME technology degree at your 4 year school, the 65 credits transfer to your degree. Some do not directly correlate, but the AS tracks and a surprising number of the HVAC specific classes transfer to many of the Cal State and/or Cal Poly (the 3 of which are also Cal State schools) programs. The main question is how far you went in math, which will dictate where you start in terms of your ME or MET degree, since most of the pre-reqs directly or indirectly relate to how far along you are in math. I've known/hired everything from an HVAC cert to an AS to an ME who had started with the cert & AS. In case you are interested, the 3 Cal Poly schools are in Pomona, San Luis Obispo, and Humboldt (also known as Cal State Weed). Pomona and SLO engineering grads are widely sought, since their program follows the Poly motto: Learning by Doing. Far more practically educated than the UC schools (one of my sons is a UC ME grad), where you are prepared more for grad school than for a career.
