This will be my longest post ever by far so don’t get too invested if you hate the idea

1. He’s my guy bar none

2. is it possible or would it be bush league since he just took over as head guy at Poly? That staff has others that could be plugged in there to keep it seamless.

3. He has former players coaching now and balling all over in pros

4. Knows I5 corridor as well as anyone. California connections should be solid

5. Nevada offered him and I think that is an underrated job. He would have had them rolling. Getting P5 bullets and more California connections was a good move.

6. The QB situation at Cal was unlucky to say the least. Couple that with Wilcox being a Defensive minded coach and you have Baldwin at a huge discount.

7. He could add a few TEs and modify things gradually. He is a creative play designer. Known as a River Boat Gambler. His style would be loved.

Finally he probably loves the state. I believe his family was doing great in Cheney. I have been around enough of his players to know how they feel about him.

The Beavs passed for their guy. Let’s make them pay

Is it risky? It better be

Well, if it comes down to Baldwin or re-hiring Wulff, I would certainly go with Baldwin.

Good points.

With those connections, bet he could make like tough in-state for UW's rearranged coaching staff, particularly in Greater Spokane.

Giving CPW a second chance as WSU's head coach would be a non-starter for all but a few Wulff-ites.

But he built his rep as an offensive line coach.

Maybe he could assume that role and focus on developing and bringing in the big guys up front?

Looks like Chun was in contact with one of the major WSU coaching search leaders as early as 2018

And the plan is into motion......

Geezus...

How many stations did he have to call before someone would give him a microphone?

And what does he hope to accomplish? We're all too stoopid to understand big boy football anyway, so why go on a radio show? Just have a conversation with all the good ol' boys.

As Coug-A-Tron and YakiCoug are fond of reminding us, CJW has a surprising number of acolytes for someone who won 44 percent of his games as HFC at Washington State.

(And I say this as a person who admired what Coach Walden did to restore the Apple Cup rivalry to Pullman)

The Walden thing pains me to no end. Similar to having to "divorce" a friend or family member because they are toxic.

He did some great things for WSU, is/ was a huge supporter, and is as Cougar a Coug as anyone. I could even tolerate his incessant defense of CPW. What I couldn't tolerate was his "fans should stfu because they've never played at the college level."

With all due respect, gfy coach. We know what sh!t smells like, so don't paint it red and tell us its a rose.

Well....I know we look at the record and say WTF. Have WSU in 1984 play Eastern and N Colo instead of Ohio State and Tenn on the road and 6-5 is 8-3. Instead of heading to Michigan in the first game of 1983 play Portland State. 8-3.

Our home games---the students weren't on campus until about the 20th of September. They miss about 1/4 of the season.

Facilities....they shared the practice field with intramurals. It means that the football team was practicing on cement about the second weekend in October as they played on the "old style" astroturf.

It was a different time. Leach had a nice facility, no body bag games. That is a huge difference.

Ifs and buts, candy and nuts. After 188 games, the record doesn't lie.

Nope. Already been down that road

It isn't going to happen, nor should it, but not sure I would throw out someone like baldwin because the school he once coached at. He has Pac 12 experience and Pac 12 contacts. He broadened his resume.

The next coach they need to hire has to love recruiting. Eat, sleep, and wake up the next day and recruit. I would tale a coach who gives up a little on the coaching aspect if he and the staff can recruit.

That was actually an excellent interview by Walden. Extremely complementary to Leach and spoke candidly of the challenges he faces at Mississippi State.
Wow, didn't take him any time to try to jump into the middle of a story that has nothing to do with him.

Walden being a loudmouth is as surprising as the sun rising in the east, water being wet, or bears shitting in the woods.

Walden mostly but not entirely complementary. He thinks Leach will fail because he won't get along (or spend time with) the good 'ol boys (same thing he said about Price at Bama and was correct).

Walden also thinks the football recruiting base in state of Washington is robust (uh uh)

His two names were Grinch and the "probably that guy from Alabama who didn't get the job" (Sark).

Hosts (Utah pbp guy) 3 candidates were Grinch, Harsin from BSU and the BYU coach (because he is a poly - also doing some low level trolling of his local BYU listeners)

It is interesting that one of the things he spent a lot of time railing against in his book - the cronyism of the deep south and how it interfered with him doing his job - is exactly what he's getting himself into. One has to wonder what promises were made about leaving him alone to do wtf he wanted to as HC/ OC.

If nothing else, he's in a red state now so he can have Trump rallies and post all the crazy shit he wants on twitter and no one will blink an eye.

I'd take Troy Taylor at Sacramento State before Beau.
I don’t know as much about Troy but I think Utah was the best team in the country a couple years ago before their Q went down.
That’s impressive he hit the ground running at Sac St

This
and there will be no a-hole John Blanchette dbags down there either.....it is different some,
as their media will be critical, and harsh at times as is found in SEC country, BUT most of the time the SEC beat writers and CFB media plays their media game fair, and they treat the coaches and players with respect - and do not play dirty like ahole Blanchette., and some of the pathetic, worthless Seattle media as well.

It is a different world down there, and will fit CML better, for sure.

Baldwin? No. I don't want the guy who just got fired because his offenses were horrible in the Pac 12 and had to go down a level to find a job.

Jim Walden has the lowest career winning percentage as a college football head coach (career longer 5 years) of any WSU coach.

This includes all the early student manager coaches who later went to coach elsewhere, the Carlisle Indians guys who followed Lone Star Dietz, the post war guys with the games being played away from campus and yes Paul Wulff.

If you include coaches who coached less than 5 years of college football, then Walden is second behind Al Kircher for worst career winning percentage.

Al Kircher was a war hero (two Bronze Stars at Normandy) and later ran the Hilltop Lodge in Pullman for 20 years after leaving as WSU coach.

Jim Walden helped mastermind the hiring of Paul Wulff.

Walden had no influence on the hire. Again that is on Moos, Sterk and Floyd.

Well here is what I can tell you from that era. Apple Cup until 82 was not played at home. The big three never came to Pullman. Please tell me how much success Leach would have being the 4th coach in 4 years, high school facilities, playing a body bag game a year? He was 3-6 in a weak Pac 12 this year.

Play Ohio State instead of Norther Colo changes the dynamics. Walden saved WSU football from going to the WAC. USC and UCLA wanted our lack of income out of the Pac 10. Like Leach he was the right person for that time.

Walden sucked. Whatever he accomplished on the field, his flapping jaws and General dumbassery has destroyed.

You’re welcome.

Jim Walden was a great coach, and hugely important to WSU football. The 80s were one of, if not our best football decade.

No way. The last EWSU coach we hired didn’t pan out to well. His offense at Cal was pathetic.

Ed, you're one of the most respected posters here, but "no influence" is almost certainly an exaggeration on your part.

Jim Walden reportedly had (and likely still has) the ear of a number of significant boosters when it comes to WSU Football.

I doubt Mr. Moos, Dr. Sterk and Dr. Floyd chose a head football coach for the Cougars without at least some consultation with CJW.
