Well here is what I can tell you from that era. Apple Cup until 82 was not played at home. The big three never came to Pullman. Please tell me how much success Leach would have being the 4th coach in 4 years, high school facilities, playing a body bag game a year? He was 3-6 in a weak Pac 12 this year.

Play Ohio State instead of Norther Colo changes the dynamics. Walden saved WSU football from going to the WAC. USC and UCLA wanted our lack of income out of the Pac 10. Like Leach he was the right person for that time.
He wasn't a good football coach.

Interesting media personality & brilliant self promoter yes.

Ran an out of date offense and wouldn't modify it.

Enormous off the field issues with his players which his 2 successors were forced to inherit. Horrible academics, campus assaults.

WSU wasn't going to the WAC.

The Spokane games were doomed once the academic calendar shifted to the August start from the last September start. That change should have been made by WSC/WSU decades earlier.

Sweeney had to play 2 years up there when Rogers Field burned down and even saddled with that problem had a better career record in college football than Walden did. Walden's record at Iowa State and Washington State speaks for itself.

This will be my longest post ever by far so don’t get too invested if you hate the idea

1. He’s my guy bar none

2. is it possible or would it be bush league since he just took over as head guy at Poly? That staff has others that could be plugged in there to keep it seamless.

3. He has former players coaching now and balling all over in pros

4. Knows I5 corridor as well as anyone. California connections should be solid

5. Nevada offered him and I think that is an underrated job. He would have had them rolling. Getting P5 bullets and more California connections was a good move.

6. The QB situation at Cal was unlucky to say the least. Couple that with Wilcox being a Defensive minded coach and you have Baldwin at a huge discount.

7. He could add a few TEs and modify things gradually. He is a creative play designer. Known as a River Boat Gambler. His style would be loved.

Finally he probably loves the state. I believe his family was doing great in Cheney. I have been around enough of his players to know how they feel about him.

The Beavs passed for their guy. Let’s make them pay

Is it risky? It better be

He just hired Wulff. He can't be that smart.

Jim Walden was a great coach, and hugely important to WSU football. The 80s were one of, if not our best football decade.
Jim Walden wasnt a good football coach.

In fact he was the worst coach of any coach at WSU in 1980s with the possible exception of Len Stevens.

Starting in 1982, he wasnt even the best football coach in the Palouse.

People wanted him gone after 1985 and were relieved when he left in 1986.

We'll agree to disagree on that. I'm an 80's guy. To say the program was on a shoestring budget back then doesn't begin to tell the story. How we managed to field the teams we did back then in 1981, 82, 83, and 85 is one of the greatest achievements in WSU football history.

Wow... Walden didn’t modify his offense ? He started a lot more one back . So he did change it a bit. iSU is a different gig than Fresno. With way different academic standards and they were scholie poor due to sanctions .

Were you around when the whisper of getting rid of OSU and WSU from the Pac? We brought zip financially to the conference and usc and UCLA were tired of carrying us for what? Best downs ?

And you some how discount the talent he acclimated after being the fourth coach in the fourth year. And on top of that the talent he left Dennis and the shape the program was in .
