I will be glued to the TV tonight for the BSU-Penn State game, and much as I can't stand BSU will be rooting for them. This game, IMHO, is pretty critical for the G5 going forward for obvious reasons. A win would show that indeed G5 schools deserve at least one seat at the big boy table.

I don't agree with the notion of the G5 breaking off and having their own playoff. That is going the wrong way. What I would like to see is a mandate that FBS schools can only play FBS schools. F- this Alabama vs Mercer crap. "Body bag" games or not, give G5 schools those $1M+ payoffs for playing the P4 big boys. Winning a few of those adds legitimacy to the G5.

I had not realized that there are 129 FCS FB schools, and that Division II has 161 teams. Only about 100 FCS schools are actually in line for the playoffs (the HBCU leagues play their own "championship" game). That said, maybe a bunch of the G5 bottom dwellers should form another conference and drop to FCS. Idaho seems to have survived.

I have more to opine on but will start there. I will also be rooting for ASU. Poke a hole in the B1G/SEC balloon.

I'm rooting for:

Texas
Oregon
Boise State

I don't like Ohio State, they're on my "I hope they lose every weekend" team list.

One aside: I think moving forward the bracket should be re-seeded after the opening round of games for the final 8 teams.

I would not be opposed to the re-seeding notion. It is too bad that OSU and Oregon are facing off, but when your conference has 3 teams out of 8 left it happens. And I can't stand either of them anyway. F-em

Oregon is a dark horse rooting option for me, only because GRCC grads won’t be able to say to Portland area HS dropouts “well you’ve never won a natty…so there!” anymore.

F*ck Oregon. Slightly below the fuskies.

F*ck Southern Idaho Community College. They are the new fuskies.

F*ck Ohio State. They are fUSC in a prettier dress.

I will accept Texas, Notre Dame, or Georgia.

Jeanty is looking to lose several million dollars tonight if they can't figure out how to get him loose. His biggest asset against his opponents this season has been not going down on first contact; Pedo St is showing that if you're big enough and strong enough it doesn't matter how short and wide you are, you're going to get tackled.

He also can't fumble twice in less than a half. Taihtsat

I was wondering about the same thing with Mateer. A lot of his running yards and a few of his passing yards were because he broke tackles of MWC lineman and linebackers. I am not sure if that happens as often against SEC players.

Yeah i really liked jeanty this year. Thought he was a generational back like Saquan Barkley. He may still be, it’s tough to evaluate when Boise State got beat so bad in the trenches, but he certainly looked human against competition that’s a lot closer to what you see in the NFL vs what he’s been running on this year. I still think he’s a very good NFL back but the difference between a Barkley like talent and your middle of the road NFL starter is top 10 pick vs third rounder. Because you can still get very good backs on the second and third days of the draft.

Unfortunately for him that game may have cost him a chunk of change.

Most of Mateer’s yards were do to his insane talent. There is a reason he was the #1 QB in the nation in the portal.

Oklahoma hired 5 new starting offensive linemen, 2 starters at TE and a WR, all who are trading up.

What’s next, “No way Mateer is a top, first round NFL pick! I just don’t see it!”

Uhhh…he’s not yet, far from it. Ward was the best QB in the portal too last year and wasn’t sniffing the first round if he had gone pro. You can be a top talent in the portal and not be a first rounder. College talent is different than nfl talent X 10 at the QB position.

Golly, Beav, I guess everyone gets $3M nil deals.

He should have opted out.

Nil deals have zero to do with the NFL. Mateer is not a first rounder if he comes out this year. And there’s no guarantee he will be one next year, in fact it’s more likely he isn’t. This really isn’t that hard.

Cam Ward will be a high first round draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Which is crazy to me. Yes, he put up big career numbers, but that does not guarantee success in the NFL. The low release point is a big negative, going off script and making low percentage throws, and the bonehead turnovers continued this year at Miami

I just can help but think sitting out the second half of the Bowl will hurt Ward in the draft. Certainly a little. That pic of him standing there, helmet off, with 56 seconds left and only needing a FG to win? Who the F wants that for a teammate?

Not sure where you are getting that any of us are thinking he isn't talented. I think Jeanty is a talented running back who should go in the first round. But if you watched that game and didn't see the difference in the players that PSU had versus the players in the MWC, then I say watch the game again.

Mateer is good, and he will have great games in the SEC. Will he be as dominate in the SEC that he was in the MWC? Will he break as many tackles? I will have to see it first.

If I were a GM or scouting director, there would be huge red flags for me. It he had sat out the entire bowl game, I don't think it makes much difference. But quitting at half time of a game? I know I would not invest a first-round pick and all that money in someone that is not committed to winning.

Let me just say that I was not sad to see BSU lose last night. F#ck those guys. I do like Jeanty and wished that he had a better game but I learned to hate BSU in 1997 and will never root for those bastards. I hate them slightly less than I used to...but only slightly.
F*ck BSUSC

On the other hand Scattebo’s draft stock is up! Over 5 yards a carry against a really good Texas D along with showing his skills as a receiver. Dude is just a football player.
Agree, but you forgot his passing prowess......
