Cal beating uw.....anyone rooting for the uw??

CAL could not get a yard from the one on four downs. Dykes went for it on 4th down and did not get the TD. Leach gets criticized for doing the same thing, but every weekend in both college and the pros, I see coaches do the same exact thing.

Of course, Browning hangs the ball on a deep pass over the middle and it gets intercepted.

Of course nobody here is rooting for UW. Screw those guys.

Today's the one day a year I bring out my Cal gear and wear it.

As for Browning, he may be good someday, but right now he looks like a decent defense will shut him down easily.

Neither team looks great. Browning is a freshman and looks like one. I thought his arm was stronger. He floated that one deep ball for an interception.

I thought his arm was stronger too. Really odd.
I still remember all the uw fans going on and on about how much of a gun Cyler Miles arm was. Then you see it in a game and are shocked with how weak it was. I am not sure Browning's arm is as strong as Falk's. I don't think he makes that throw that Falk did to Marks against Rutgers.

Watching this uw/CAL game and it is ugly. The Cougars have played a lot of ugly football this season, but this game is as sloppy as one can get as well.

Both teams can beat the Cougars, but the Cougars can also beat both these teams too. It just depends on what teams decide to show up.

It's pretty bad. Gotta admit, though, that I'm seeing Cal do a lot of things on offense that I think the Cougs will have a hard time stopping. UW, not so much, as long as the D can just make some tackles.

I am not impressed with Cal's OL at all. Maybe they are having an off game, but if this is really how well they play, I think Allison and Palacio can do some damage.

Pete's standing as the coach with the highest winning percentage will soon go away. He's looking like a rather pedestrian coach in the Pac.

Certainly not impressive on pass protection. Goff was under pressure all night. Both tackles, right and left, left the game due to injuries. They may well be somewhat undermanned next week and our DL may have a shot at pressuring Goff.

Goff seemed off a bit to me. Possibly due to a lingering injury suffered in Texas and not helped by poor O-line performance. He was nowhere near as precise in his throws as I have seen in the past.

Also may have an advantage at the place kicker spot. Cal's place kicker was poor. Seems strange to suggest that we may have the upper hand in any aspect of Special Teams play but there it is.

Cal did show a decent running game. One kid- whose name I cannot remember- broke arm tackle after arm tackle. If we don't wrap him up and drive he will do some serious damage to us. Also, their leading rusher, Lasco, sat out the game but appeared able to play if needed. We can expect to see him next Saturday. I am more concerned by their rushing ability than Goff's passing at this point.

Really sloppy game. I lost track of all the fumbles, interceptions, sacks and miscues on both sides.

Crossing my fingers that Cal plays us like they played the uw but Leach has a pretty poor record coming off of a bye.

Vic Enwere. The Cougs had better be ready to tackle that guy next week.

UW's defense is pretty good. They hit Goff time and again. WSU will need a similar effort to disrupt the timing of Cal's O.

Interesting article on teams coming off a BYE in September: http://cfbmatrix.wpengine.com/?p=15847
Thanks, good article. A rest helps a little, not much but some. Makes sense. Rest > accumulated rust. Leach's teams, however, have lost something like 80% of the time after a rest. A really inexplicable and strange pattern of results but drawing from a fairly small, about a dozen, cases. Let us hope that these are just outliers and not something inherent to the preparation.

You need to learn to operate that bat signal.
The way to beat Cal is the run the ball. There was no reason to call nothing but pass plays with three minutes and two timeouts left.

Obviously no bat signal needed. ;-)

Just poking at you a little.

I am confused at your third sentence relative to your second one.

Awkward sentence construction on my part. My point was that the Huskies got the ball with three minutes left and two TOs. They had lots of time in other words, but they just started chucking it. I would have run on first down at least. Cal has a mediocre run defense.

Cal has a mediocre run defense.

That's the weakness I've observed with Cal, and unfortunately, I don't think we can exploit it. Texas ran all over them, and UW did as well before falling behind and having to abandon it.
