Cal has a good defense.......

There’s a lot of talent in that area. Coaches will always gravitate to places where talent comes easier. If you can recruit well in that area you can real in top 25 classes. Sometimes being close to home is a good enough sales pitch. But I agree not much to sell other than that.

I dunno how much talent is in the Bay Area that fits their academic profile.

Their biggest issue is culture. It isnt a football school. Its a social justice warrior school. I feel like it’s be going to PCU (movie reference) to play football.

Regardless of their current OC and the overall state of their football program, it's inexcusable for Cal not to have any QB talent on their roster. Jared Goff, Kyle Boller, Aaron Rodgers....and going back a ways, Vince Ferragamo, Steve Bartkowski. They have a strong tradition at QB in a VERY good geography for high school QBs.

This is another reason why Leach is a better coach than most of the clowns in college football. How do these coaches think they're going to navigate through our conference with lousy QB play? You should be able to sign an elite prospect every year at any of the P12 programs.

It’s coaching. I have said for years that QB is the most poory coached, evaluated and recruited position in all of football. From youth football to the NFL, I am convinced people have no clue what theyre looking at. There is no position on the field where coaches have put so many kids thru the ringer. Literally taken talented kids and ruined them or declared them not good enough. These kids were either asked to do specifically what they werent good at or victims of poor coaching.

From what I could find it looks like they have two interesting project coming in next year, one a transfer. Obviously a lot of opportunity to start right away. Edit: prospects. Who knows, they may be "projects."

I don’t believe there’s a school outside of Furd in the conference that won’t take athletes with the minimum academic standards set forth by the NCAA, including Cal... I could be wrong. There are plenty of football players I can think of that went to Cal and weren’t exactly brain surgeons or rocket scientists.

I can remember WSU picking up a player or 2 that had signed with Cal that couldn’t get into school in the last few years and likewise UCLA had to turn guys away that got into Cal.

Here's how I understand it.

The NCAA has their qualifying standard. Each school, obviously, has their own standard as well. Each school generally allows a certain number of "special admits". This can be a kid that doesn't meet the GPA & test score minimum, but the university may want for other reasons (usually athletic ability, but could be for skill in performing arts or other areas).

In the case of a Chandler Leniu, he met the NCAA minimum, but not the requirement for Cal. Cal, presumably, had used up all their special admits, or determined that Leniu was just too far below their standards, that they did not admit him. He then turned to WSU, where he either met WSU's limit, or WSU had a special admit they could use for him.

There may be a certain number of guys Cal can slide in. I’d wager UCLA prob has higher academic standards too. Not all schools in the conference accept every kid (Stanford obviously).

Your post is meaningless and historically void of relevance as it does not include the great Joe Kapp. Last QB to take Cal to the Rose Bowl. Coach of the famous 1982 Cal team (The Stanford Band KO return). He of the "Win one for the zipper" defeat of Stanford in 1986. Only QB to play in the Rose Bowl, Super Bowl, and Grey Cup. Wake up please.

Classic Joe Kapp moment:

As ugly as that game was at least it was close these bowl games are awful, every one is a fricken blowout!

For those who want to see the pac-12 win bowl games to improve the conference’s image, etc., it was one Cal needed to win.

Absolutely. The Bowl season is diluted and tired, but the P12 tie-in games are good matchups. A mid level P12 team lost to the MWC champ. Mid level Cal lost to a QB depleted mid level B12 team. We’re getting the B12 #3. Stanford’s facing a 7-6, but ACC division winner in Pitt. Div winning Utah is getting Div winning Northwestern. Oregon gets a physical Michigan State team. UW and Ohio Stare are 1 vs. 1.

We can’t keeping losing all of these games and shrug off the bias against the P12. We’re 1-10 over the past couple of years, but more concerning to me is that the teams in our league look soft.

It’s gonna be worse than that. I think MSU and OSU gonna ROLL Oregon and UW. I think our game is probably a toss up. Stanford should beat Pitt. NW and Utah will probably look a lot like Cal and TCU. It might get worse before it gets better. #FireLarryScott

Michigan State should not roll Oregon. They might, but they shouldn’t. MSU looked awful down the stretch.

Perhaps. MSU seems to do well in bowl games. Big 10 has looked good so far. Give Dantonio and Christobol a month to prepare for each other and I’ll take MSU all day.

I don’t know if either of them can coach, but I think very few coaches recruit as well a he does.
