Changed my seat location yesterday...yikes

WSU assumed they owned Spokane for college basketball based on the prior 100 years in 1999 as well.

EWU football is tempting. They run a fun offense, they have played uw and WSU tough and beat OSU recently, they play games during the DAY, they market well and they win.

Last year they had a booth at Hoopfest with big play VA signing autographs and giving out schedule magnets. WSU had a few female basketball players and some students at their booth.

I won't deny that WSU needs to wake up when it comes to marketing, but if you think EWU is a serious threat, then WSU should just shut down football forever. EWU may play games during the day, but they play in a conference that does not matter. Their games do not matter. Yes they win, but very few people care.

Again, if WSU starts winning some games, people will drop EWU like a bad habit.

I tend to follow 96 on this… But I do see what others are saying here. In the past, we've all talked about getting "a few thousand people" from the Tri-Cities, from the surrounding areas, etc. etc. Well, EWU does put a slight ding in WSU's "finish". While I think we have other, more serious issues, allowing Spokane to slip into a habit of supporting EWU with their "seat money", isn't a good thing either.

WSU is kinda stuck, though. They may have bigger budget, they may be a bigger school, but they have bigger "bills" as well. Their horizon is a lot broader than EWU. Not making excuses but being the smallest school, in one of the largest and most powerful conferences, is NOT the most envious positions to be in, financially. So EWU can focus their attention, on say Hoopfest, that's another thing to have slip through the cracks of a bigger organization. Not any excuses, I just see it. IMHO, if you're going to do something, do it fully, do it to the fullest extent… Do it right. WSU is kinda half-ass doing all of their marketing… Save the dough from all these half-ass smaller gigs, and do a big one right.

Focus, people. WSU needs to decide on what they are going to focus on, marketing-wise, and hit it hard. If they are doing that now, it isn't very visible.

First, the good news. WSU has made it exponentially easier for season ticket holders to change their seat locations. The online process worked great for me. I was able to move from the Pressbox side over the North side and add an extra seat without issue. Trust me when I say that convenience and WSU ticket ordering have historically never been used in the same sentence.

Now the bad news. I was shocked at how many available seats there are in all sections. I have 5 seats together, so I went into the process yesterday thinking that it was going to be tough to find seating availability in other sections, but there was amply availability.

Stating the obvious here, but we really need to start winning; particularly our home games. We've picked the worst possible time to go into a 10+ year competitive coma. Fan interest state wide is seemingly at a modern day low.

Complications include the fact that every game is now on TV. Fewer fans attend games, and thus they've become even further removed from our program. Add in that we now have 800,000 new Seahawk fans who have eaten away at both ours and UW's fan bases, and the obstacles are even greater. The Seahawk factor is a big deal. Their games, not WSU's or UW's, are what people are highlighting on their weekend calendars.

We have to start winning. Easier said than done, but the corner needs to be turned.
So first, I will make the caveat, I'm not a season ticket holder. So what I'm going to say is from that perspective. But I thought I'd look at the games and see what's available to the common dude. I can't say much for what's available to you guys that are season ticket holders but those open to the public, I didn't see anything too shocking. I actually looked into the away games and the tickets that are available at the Oregon Game, Rutgers, Zona, were MUCH more plentiful… At least through the "vivid seats" link WSU has on their site for purchases. Yeah, they're WSU games at other locations so that might be a reflection of our "demand" at other schools but still. I think a lot of people wait until we start hearing the hype of fall camp, start seeing the flying ball in the news casts, the catches the hits, in the local news. Not worried. Can't be worse than most of the games last year. Perspective:

This was the Portland State Game. Supposedly, attendance for this game was almost 31,000. Capacity for Martin is supposedly 32,952. So to say that all it is, is people that had season tickets and just weren't showing in the first place, FINALLY giving up their tickets? Yep. And honestly, I'm OK with it. And FYI, this image was not uncommon. Many games close to, or were sold out… and it looked like this.

WSU generally reports tickets sold, not butts in seats. I had a ticket to that game, but was unable to attend.

WSU sold out the Oregon, Arizona, and Washington games. Cal was 30k.

USC was the only poorly purchased game, with just 25k seats sold.

Right. We've talked about how WSU doesn't "do" turnstile numbers, just sales. Which I'm fine with. Whatever. I was just saying, it appears to me, if there are a bunch of open seats as Patrol indicates, it easily could coincide with the season ticket holders that were continually absent from the games. Maybe we are just opening up those seats… dunno. Just a thought with a picture.
