At the 7:00 mark he mentions what Lee Corso called it the no one watches bowl. He set him straight. Loved it when they start to mention other past players.he shuts them up lol .
Nobody watches (wants us) bowl? Wtf is he talking about. What a dumb thing to say. Good for Dickert for calling it out.At the 7:00 mark he mentions what Lee Corso called it the no one watches bowl. He set him straight. Loved it when they start to mention other past players.he shuts them up lol .
I like how he basically calls Corso an addle-brained old fool who doesn’t even know what he’s saying anymore. 100% correct. At the 7:00 mark he mentions what Lee Corso called it the no one watches bowl. I blame ESPN, mostly. You know Corso didn’t write it. Someone handed it to him to reinforce what the network has helped get done. And they know that anyone else on the desk would have pushed back, but Corso is far enough gone that he won’t even notice.I don't know that Dickert should have said it...but given the state of things, I applaud his honesty. I've got mixed feelings on Corso. I don't believe that it's good for him to be on TV anymore. He clearly has some cognitive and communication issues. That said, he was on the Texas bandwagon before anyone else was...so he's clearly not completely lost his marbles. Corso is still a dick for making the joke and that goes twice for ESPN.
I’ve always found Corso entertaining, but the facts we see on TV bears this to be accurate.I like how he basically calls Corso an addle-brained old fool who doesn’t even know what he’s saying anymore. 100% correct.

I played for Holtz at Arkansas. Back then (early 80's) he was sharp as a tack. Sad to see they waited too long to put him out to pasture.Read a story earlier that claimed Corso didn’t say “nobody watches bowl” he said “nobody wants us bowl.”
Possible. Didn’t see it. Don’t care. Corso is as bad as Lou Holtz was.

No argument here. I doubt we have a case against the networks, but the 10 should be basically at our mercy. And I don’t have any.Two thoughts.
1) Corso's inability to speak clearly has gotten a lot worse in the past two years and it was hard to understand what he's saying. The dude should not be on TV. His mealy mouthed, incoherent mumbling makes it look like ESPN is exploiting a geriatric person who doesn't always know what's going on.
2) It doesn't matter, both lines are insulting to WSU and OSU when used as a joke. ESPN staff joking about WSU and the death of the Pac-12 is pretty low in either case. I don't know that WSU and OSU have a winnable case, but I'd love to see ESPN, B1G, Big 12 and the traitorous 10 in court. USC and UCLA in particular were duplicitous in their dealings in the past couple years.
Did you say you played for the Razorbacks in 1983? What?I played for Holtz at Arkansas. Back then (early 80's) he was sharp as a tack. Sad to see they waited too long to put him out to pasture.

Holtz has always annoyed me. Aside from being a blowhard who is often wrong every time he talks it feels like spittle is coming out of my TV and hitting me in the faceI played for Holtz at Arkansas. Biggs was actually the coach…Holtz was his GA.Did you say you played for the Razorbacks in 1983? What?
I like Holtz, he was pretty funny in his prime. John Mckay was funnier though.Holtz has always annoyed me. Aside from being a blowhard who is often wrong every time he talks it feels like spittle is coming out of my TV and hitting me in the face

Never played for Wazzu. Wanted to, especially growing up in East Wenatchee. AR offered me and I went since I was born there (Izard County). Career ending injury to my hip finished my playing days. Always been a big Coug fan and proud as can be that my daughter is now a senior in Pullman.Cool! Did you play for Walden in 78-79, or 83-84?
Fly a black flag with Coug logo upside down (distress) on next weeks Gameday in protest.
I agree. I think Dickert would love to sit down with any of them and have a conversation. But it would never happen. ESPN knows they are a big contributor to the destruction of college football in its purest form and they have no interest in having someone like Dickert bringing the receipts on their network. We are better off not making a spectacle of this. We get special treatment for the flag and doing something that is too over the top is only going to get our flag blackballed.
I didn't get to see Corso's remark live and didn't realize that Dickert was pissed off about the wrong thing even if he wasn't the only one that heard the same thing from the mealy mouthed old codger. The thing that Dickert did that was good was following up and saying that he'd love to have a conversation with "Coach" Corso about the destruction of the Pac-12. That would never happen because, no offense to Corso, ESPN knows that Corso would get owned in a debate.
Dickert said his piece and I think we are better off moving on at this point.
I think the regular viewers understand that Corso doesn't want to quit. Two thoughts.

I can tell you from close contact, his desire for family stability is equivalent to his desire for program stability. He values tenure and loyalty. Will he bolt? 100% within possibility, but I think we may get a few year out of the guy while his kids grow up. He’s a smart dude. At the same the same time money talks. But do you take 2-4 million yearly for as long as you prefer, or jump to 6-8 with the instability.I do like Dickert, and I hope it works out for him here. Of course, if it does, the Badgers or someone else may come calling, but I'll happily take any good years we get from this guy.
I was at the season-opening game in '82 against Tulsa. I spent most of my 20's in Tulsa and TU was a customer. Took one of their alum busses to Fayetteville because I wanted to see the stadium. Had a good time, though back then highway 33 was a Mobius strip and the drive back was rough for some who drank too much...my memory is that TU filled about 8 busses. A lot of historical connection between the two areas.80-82
This is the impression I’ve gotten from him. 6 different cities in 7 years or something? Seems like he’d prefer to stay in Pullman for the long haul so his family can settle down. Lot up in the air of course with realignment if we don’t end up staying P5.I can tell you from close contact, his desire for family stability is equivalent to his desire for program stability. I see it the same way. I don't know what we are paying him (2-3 million?) but Pullman is a great place to raise a family. Good schools, safe community, etc. The way things are going so far, he's golden in Pullman. This is the impression I’ve gotten from him. 6 different cities in 7 years or something? Just listened to the clip and Corso says it twice: the first time he clearly says “nobody watches bowl” the 2nd time pretty sure as well though he’s even more slurred. IMO calling it the “nobody watches” is far more pointed and offensive - if he actually said “no one wants us bowl” I could take the joke no problem.Back to the original post about Dickert's comments on Lee Corso. First of all, we all know that Lee is just saying what he is told, as his ability to come up with something original is limited, so someone at ESPN wrote the script, and if he said "No one wants us bowl" or " No one watches us bowl" it really doesn't matter both are disparaging remarks made by ESPN. Lee is so incoherent at times it is difficult to understand what he says many times, so it is easy to misunderstand him. It is sad really, I am sure Lee wants to continue, and Herbie keeps propping him up like a Weekend at Bernie's, but Lee does need to step down, it is painful listening to him. They could have said something more positive like WSU/OSU game between two ranked teams that should be a great game, two teams that deserve a home, but they have been shut out for reasons that make no sense. Agreed Lee probably would have had trouble getting that out. And they wouldn't say that, because ESPN is responsible for the direction college football is headed.
Dickert used the moment, wisely, to bring national attention to the situation again, and it worked, it has received national headlines, read all the comments you will see, a majority of the fans nationwide are on the side of WSU and OSU. People don't like the way WSU and OSU have been treated, for many reasons, one it's not right, and secondly, they all know deep down their team might be next.
Herbie is like Corso’s kid at this point. Of course he’s going to defend him.Just listened to the clip and Corso says it twice: the first time he clearly says “nobody watches bowl” the 2nd time pretty sure as well though he’s even more slurred. In defense of Corso, Herbstreit fired back at Dickert and Leaf, who had made a comment on twatter, yet Herbstreit was sitting right next to Corso when he spoke and knew damn well what Corso said. Always liked Herbstreit but clearly he’s just another company-man bitch.
Having seen the clip now, I find it even more offensive. The giggle from Howard after the "last two standing in the conference of champions." Davis' sarcastic delivery of "conference of champions." Corso says "nobody wants us," following by a "yeah" from Herbstreit. Corso then says it again, in a voice mushy enough that DIckert can easily be forgiven for hearing "nobody watches." Then he follows with a pouty baby voice while the pseudo-celebrity picker laughs out loud and Herbie chuckles.Just listened to the clip and Corso says it twice: the first time he clearly says “nobody watches bowl” the 2nd time pretty sure as well though he’s even more slurred. Arkeys and Okeys were the original "migrant workers". Arkeys stayed in the Wenatchee Valley (my family) and bought up all the orchards and the Okeys went back home.I was at the season-opening game in '82 against Tulsa. This goes past what ESPN wrote for a senile old man. He piled on with the taunting, and everyone on the platform except Vince Vaughn was on board.
If you get offered $6-8M guaranteed for 5 years you have to take it. One contract and you have generational wealth. I live Dickert and would be majorly bummed but I’d completely understand.I can tell you from close contact, his desire for family stability is equivalent to his desire for program stability. Could be that it was intended to be a dig at the networks, or other conferences, but Corso just can't follow the script at this point. Like, "Hey, look at these two teams no one wants playing such great football" kind of deal. But all Corso could get out was "Nobody warches us bowl".Two thoughts.

I don't know. This has gotten so much run by WSU fans. Kind of seems like a big nothing burger to me.
