As bad as that game was, I still need to offer a few positive thoughts.
We played much better in the second half. And not just at the end, against the reserves. If we had been able to hit the broad side of a barn from the field and some free throws, we would have closed it up. Still lost, given the hole we dug for ourselves, but we would have closed it up in the second half.
Some of the newbies played better than the starters, at least during portions of the game. And they looked pretty athletic.
If Railey had anything like some touch, he would be dangerous. I'm not sure how he and the other guys can pull down consecutive offensive rebounds and miss the 3 footers.
We haven't quite figured out that give & go, pass & cut thing on a consistent basis yet. But it worked when we actually did it.
You can really tell that the kids are young and accustomed to playing rat ball by the total lack of understanding of footwork, particularly on the defensive side. The good news is that this can be learned. The bad news is that it can't be learned fast enough to save defense for this season.
I think that we will see progress this year. But I'm not going to hold my breath for wins.
