The thread on Hinson, a 4 star, got me to thinking about the relatively few 4 star kids WSU has been able to sign over the years. Most recently was Gittens, who would be a very nice pickup out of CSI if we are lucky enough to get him.
Wasn't Que Johnson a 4 star on some services? I know Royce Woolridge was coming out of high school in Phoenix.

I think he had dropped by his senior year, but Patrick Simon was a 4 star at some point in high school. Also Mike Harthun was a 4 star, but dropped in later evaluations. Then of course we have Klay.

Even though this is about hoops I have to mention Bruggman, if only because he makes 3 out a relatively few 4 star kids from Phoenix high schools who had less than stellar success at WSU.

Four star recruits normally want to go to schools who have very good programs which will increase their chances of going to the Big Dance. WSU does not fit into that category. That minimizes the chance of landing the four star players

Yes, I agree why we dont get many. I would say that in the case of those we did land ( other than Klay) they were over rated

I’m sure every basketball players wants to play in the NCAA tourney but as far as school decisions go I think it’s more based on schools/ coaches who can get them to the next level. It’s the same way in high school. Everybody wants to win a state championship but the question I used to get asked by both parents and players the most was “what can I do to get recruited”. Even now as a D3 volunteer assistant kids want to know if they can play overseas.

If that is the case then the cougs look pretty good. They placed three players off a mediocre team in overseas pro leagues off last years' team

That’s true, basketball is a unique sport in that there are thousands of places to play around the world. Last I checked Castro, Simons, Taylor R, Shelton, Hawk, were all still playing

Apparently his name has changed to DeAngelo Hamilton and is playing for Madgoat (Thailand). I think he's #17.

I was looking up European League salaries in reference to the other thread about making coin in Europe. In one list Rochestie is listed as the 48th (or so) highest paid player at 950,000 Euros (~1.2 million). There are multiple leagues over there, but I think Taylor is in the #1 league now.

Casto was quite a star in the VietNam league before moving to Thailand. Actually all four of last years seniors are playing somewhere at the next level.

Franks could play overseas but is a very long shot for the NBA.

What is not being mentioned here is that these players developed in Pullman. Franks is a prime example, he also developed his body with the training facilities and nutrition programs available to the players Many of the current players being recruited are interested in developing their games so they can play at the next level in some capacity. This is a solid selling point, yet some posters on the other board just keep trashing the program. Do i want to see post season play ?. Yes i do, but i will back Kent until he leaves.

Development in Pullman is not superior to anywhere else, not inferior but not superior either. There are just so many options to players.

Does anybody remember what sort of buzz there was around Ike Fontaine? Obviously the "dial up" era, so I'm not sure what sort of rating services were even out there then. Would he have been a 4-star get?
Probably a high 3-star (maybe fringe 4) but he really blew up his senior season and would have had a lot more interest than when he committed to Sampson.
