Cougs lose

He did the best he could. If he had 6 all stars he would have played exactly the same way and without any real difference in the season record. He was always a mediocre coach who loved ugly ball.It was the only why he knew how to coach. i hated it when he was hired and he did not do anything except make extra cash and secure a head coaching job for his son.

Dick once said that he would have liked to have the athletes to play more up tempo but in places like Green Bay he couldnt get them. He certainly didnt have the takent to plsy up tempo in Pullman. A lot of people didnt like his style but but he was a defensive genious.

When he was hired they asked Lute Olsen what he thought about it. He and most of the coaching community had a lot of respect for Dick Bennett. I'll take their word. Lute said the something like the Pac 10 just got a lot tougher.

I wasn't happy about the style when he was hired. I heard the press conference and knew he was a good fit.

I was not a huge fan of Bennett ball until the results started to turn our program into a legitimate basketball force, then I was all in. I still don't believe that Bennett ball is the only way to win at WSU but there is little doubt that it did work.
Our problem now is recruiting which was supposed to be Kents forte. There was a big push to fire Bone but quite frankly as of now we are paying more money for less results. It has been a long time since I've seen a WSU team with this little talent and certainly not under Bone.
I'm hoping this years Freshmen class is the start of better recruiting. Pollard is playing more as a freshman than he is ready for but I'm not unimpressed. I think he will be solid for the next few years. I really like Flynn's future prospects, I feel we finally have a point guard. Acquaah red shirting hurt this years team but I have high hopes for his future.

I didn't buy Kent's recruiting would translate from Oregon to WSU and he was on the slide there at the end as well. Feel the same on last years recruiting. Hopeful they can equal it the next few years.

I am not a fan of Bone but it was pointless to fire him for this.

Bone was a pretty good coach whonever really got a break. Inheriting the unreasonable expectations of fans based on Tonys success was the initial problem. His first season he inherited no upper class experience. His second season we make the final 4 of the NIT but fans thought we inder achieved. If that is under achieving what was Tonys last season when we were a one and done NIT team with Rochestie Baynes and Klay . His third season he loses two early outs and would have still made NIT but for injuries.

In the end the inability to recruit west side kids to Pullman despite good connections did him in.

The truth is their arent a lot of guys who can have any kind of long term success in hoops at WSU. Unlike football it is a city game for high schoolers and that makes it really tough to get over the hump and establish any credibility eith those kids

It seems like this board always has a self-appointed basketball expert in general, and a cougar basketball expert in particular that consistently prove they know very little. Party Crasher, Hoops Coug to name a couple. Wonder who that is now??

No. Graham wad an unqualified disaster. Bone was a pretty good coach who couldnt get over the hump in Pullman. I am not in the habit of calling coaches a disaster (Graham excluded) but by any standard that you could call Bone a disaster Kent would also fall into that category

EK still has a chance to right the ship. Bone is now a "go for" down the road.He was rightfully and unceremoniously dumped for the better or worse. EK 's coaching resume at the D1 level far surpasses anything Bone will ever do in his lifetime.Care to place a bet on that ?

After watching Our porous defense poor rebounding and no real idea on offense it might be a good idea to not cast too many aspersuons on prior coaches. I hope this team can somehow put it together but we just got embarrassed by the worst team in the big west.

Ernie kent was under 500 at St Marys in the west coast conference, Ernie Kent was under 500 in the PAC 10/12 conference at Oregon. Not sure his resume is all that spectacular.

What can one say? The cougs got their behinds kicked by a bad team . EK and staff are not coaching well. One would think that the coaching staff is losing the players, early in the season. The staff is comprised of older coaches and they do not seem to relate to the players. The ace recruiter whom i wanted gone is still in Pullman . Many fans wanted to keep him and they got their wish. If things continue then things have to change, One,the cougs need to fire EK s staff and bring in fresh blood. Or two,EK needs to hang it up, He cannot exist on past accomplishment, He states they do not communicate as a team. Well EK seems to place too much faith in players who cannot get the job done,He may be looking for leadership from guys who are not leaders. The "casting of aspersuons" are well deserved by prior coaches. EK is not doing well

The thing that bothers me most is that Daniels Franks and King are players who have some talent and skill but are not developing. Partcularly frustrating because we started 4 seniors yesterday. Bringing in a bunch of jc kids for a quick fix should have been my first clue last season.

Such a waste of a really good looking young pg and Hawkinson. You can even see the frustration in Hawks play as he is trying to do too much.
