Cougs @ UCLA :: 2nd Half Game Thread

4 Turnovers are almost impossible to beat.
Ward trying to do too much but the O-line has not giving him any time.
Credit to UCLA's defense, they have played well all game
Cougs in 4 down territory now unless they take a couple of sacks.

Still a good job by the defense. They have been on the field way too long this game.

What a clown show in the second half. Defense did such a great job, offense let them down. Cam sliding too early and not getting the first? Shit he should put his shoulder down and drilled into the DB.

They got it on the next play.

Loss is in the O, Arbuckle and Ward can be losers of the day.

That last play is the worst thing I've seen in a long time, employing 150lb Paine as a lead blocker.

Tell me you're over your head without telling me you're over your head.

Offense was a disaster today no way around it. 10 points, 4 turnovers, 3rd downs were bad, no big plays or long drives. Oh well on to the next one!

Cam sucked, pressure or no. He could have run more when the pocket collapsed. And turning around right into 2 defenders while scrambling? Twice he threw into double coverage where it was clear he was going to throw to the guy no matter what. 2nd on was an int.

My other big offensive bitch? Watson. He either jitterbugged at the line or tried to bounce outside. How about you take the ball, put your head down and blow straight into the line at full speed?

You need to get back on the Viagra.
Dude, Viagra is to get a boner. It is not dementia medicine. Which I'm starting to think I need.

Regardless, Cam should have at least taken another step, and/or taken on the DB. Mateer probably would have plowed the guy over.

Sorry to have to state this, but UCLA’s coaching staff put together a great defensive game plan. I expect their performance will be a template on what we will see moving forward from other PAC-12 defenses.

It was jimmies and Joes more than Xs and Os, IMO.

That jet sweep kinda play they ran for the two TDs is something we should borrow, have Jenkins run it.

It was developed as a heart medicine i beleive, they discovered its true value when study participants refused to return it after the studies ended

Yes and no.

I said at the beginning of the year that the first team that dropped 7/8 and spied Cam would shut this offiense down, and that's exactly what happened. Double the effectiveness if you can get home with 3 or 4 ever single time.

We're going to have blowout losses against Oregon and UW if they play the same defense against us. Did you see Gomness get ragdolled by their undersized NT? Probably happened all game, but there was one play where it was front and center.

All that being said, Arbuckle shit the bed and couldn't adjust to beat what UCLA was giving us. There were ways and opportunities to win this game despite the jimmies and joes, but the Cougs couldn't make it happen.

We’re a 3-4 loss team. Scrappy, but not enough offensive line and on defense.
.

This is not a particularly newsflash take, Patrol. Yeah, we have UW and Oregon left on the road. That's 3 losses there (likely). Could lose one more, too.

The people reveling in losses will be posting more this week.

CougEd will be posting more this week as well. It is predictable.

Enjoy the season. We are doing better than most all expected.

Yeah shit though. 4 turnovers, all when we were driving, killed us. You don't beat anyone when you turn it over like that.

Oh and one more thing - while the defense played great and kept us in the game, the one bitch about them is their crappy tackling technique. You don't just hit the guy. You hit him and wrap your arms around him. That one play where our defender hit the receiver right near the sidelines - the UCLA guy bounced off of the "tackle" and what ran another 20 yards?

Those fumbles were inexplicable. The interceptions I get - I mean, not really because they were fcking HORRIBLE passes - because CW was trying to make something happen, but the fumbles...

This game reeks of overconfidence. Its not like OSU didn't try to rip or punch the ball out, or get pressure.

Yeah, our receivers didn't look particularly good at gripping the ball. But UCLA was doing great at punching and hitting the ball.

This has been going on for years. I read a great article some 10+ years ago lamenting how tackling went from at.a minimum holding up the guy until help arrived to making the big hit or doing it solo. That article said it was starting to invade the NFL and that things will get worse. I see it every week in games I watch, and it’s not just WSU.

Stats that stood out to me:
  1. TOP: UCLA 64.2% to WSU 35.8% (Bruins 2:1)
  2. Turnovers: UCLA 2 to WSU 4
  3. # Offensive Snaps: UCLA 97 to WSU 59 (Bruins w/ 64% more snaps)
I'd be very surprised if the win % for teams with numbers like WSU above cracked 10%. The fact that we finished within a TD is a small miracle. Worth considering that, w/o the Gushiken Pick 6, Bruins probably win going away.
