Won't link them 'cuz they are on Brand X and Brand Y, but both good reads. X is about WSU's "good fit" with the Big 12 (completely disagre). Y is about how the PAC needs a culture change and dump it's whole "academic conference" mantra. Totally agree with that.

Yeah, the academic snobs have no clue about college football. I personally believe that it has gotten completely out of control and it has been that way for many years. It's ridiculous how sports has become so big in our culture. Having said that, I enjoy watching Wazzu football and a good college football match up. That makes me hypocritical I suppose.

Can't disagree there. The older I get, the less I give a shit about College and Pro sports. Even my beloved Cougs.

I’ll disagree. If it came down to a choice of emphasizing athletics or academics, it’s a no-brainer to me. Sports are extracurricular and should be optional.

Unfortunately, to borrow from James Caan, when was the last time 60,000 people showed up for a chemistry experiment?

Well, it doesn't have to be one or the other. WSU can tout its academic prowess proudly, without having to count on the PAC to prop it up for prestige. As long as Athletics doesn't dilute the academic side financially.
