No TV and not really a scrimmage but more of an open practice with some “live” play, apparently to keep the “vultures” away.

I’ve never made it to Pullman for a Spring game and definitely don’t see me going to this. Anyone going?

If you can’t have a spring game do to fear of vultures, why have open practice? Closing practice is the obvious thing to do.

I went. I saw. Meh........

At least it was an opportunity to connect with some friends. And look at maybe 1,000 others scattered around the stadium.

Or at least have to show your Coug card to get into the game

Do the Cougs pass the eye test or is it pretty obvious we are playing with a combo FCS/FBS roster?

Hard to really tell much when viewing from the club seats. I was much closer to the action two weeks prior at the Spokane scrimmage. That said, I would say that the Cougs usually lost the "eye test" to almost all teams getting off the bus in years past. My guess is we may well look more like the best team before the kickoff against half of the teams this year. FWIW

I’ve seen some news clips that don’t look particularly impressive, both live action and interviews with players that need to hit the weight room. Color me concerned though it’s exactly what I figured would happen the day we lost Power Conference status.

Color me very concerned also. Especially with the Big Uglies on both sides of the ball.

CJR might be busy in the portal that's open through next week.

Should be a lot of players available once some of these kids at Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame etc. realize they won't be starting in the fall.

Yeah…and those kids at Georgia, Ohio state, and Notre dame will transfer to Oklahoma state, Nebraska, and UNC. That’ll displace kids who then go to Arizona state, Houston, and Wake Forest. Then that’ll displace kids that will come to WSU.

The transfers are already pouring out, mostly for playing time it would appear but there’s been two who’ve left that were early enrollee Freshmen that haven’t even made it through a semester at WSU. Maybe Pullman wasn’t their cup of tea?

Or a coach with a 27-3 record separating the wheat from the chaff?

For sure that’s a big part of what’s happening but when a kid who should be going to prom transfers out my guess is he will be signing with another school who recruited him who has continued to recruit him.

Geezus Pete give us a break. First off, WSU needs to shed 20 players to get down to 105. With 20-some in the portal, that about gets us there. Is he going to run another 10-20 off to make room for portal transfers?

And CJR went 27-3 at a perennial FCS powerhouse where he replaced a 26 year HC. That means exactly nothing.

I am 99% sure Minshew didn’t show up in Pullman until after spring ball in 2018

Got a week to make magic happen again if that’s the route he’s going.

I don’t follow things as closely as I used to but it appears the D Line has been gutted by the portal. WSU has always struggled there and when they were successful it was usually a development guy. Those guys will all be poached now.
