Don't know how many of you saw that Dax Shepard made the news this week because he relapsed on opioids after 16 years of sobriety and avoiding alcohol and cocaine. It's amazing to hear how people lie to themselves to justify taking opioids once they get hooked. I hope that guys like Ryan see these stories and realize that they can never let their guard down. Addiction is a terrible thing.

I'd recommend listening to his Armchair Expert podcast too. "Day 7" is the recent one where he talks about everything.

Fck covid, fck these politics, fck America right now. Glad he only relapsed, there are plenty of people eating bullet because of the bullshit. Not making light of addiction, just to be clear.

Speaking of relapse, Leaf, and high stress living situations:

nothing ever came of Leaf's DV case as far as him addressing it. I quit twitter a while ago, so I haven't seen his tweets, but after he resurfaced there was nothing but happy family stuff. So maybe (hopefully) it was a heated argument/ yelling match that looked worse to the neighbors than it actually was. IIRC, his court date is coming up soon.

I actually heard about this on another pod; did not know. It was shocking; how terrible to lose 16 years. I guess you just have to know that once an addict, always an addict, as AA and NA teach, and that you can't turn it on "just for a bit" because it's a special circumstance.

I unsubscribed months ago due to Monica's awful fake laughter and the guests, but I really admire Dax's efforts to be honest and get at the truth (admittedly we come to many different conclusions). He is a genuinely curious person.

If anyone is interested, his interview with Jake Johnson covers this topic extensively and might be one of the best pod episodes of any kind I have ever heard. Both have similar/awful upbringings WRT dads and it's a struggle to keep it together.

I usually just listen to guests I find interesting myself (in a similar vein with the JRE, too). Monica isn't my favorite either, but like you, I admire Dax's curiosity.
