This is definitely a different situation -

I'm not sold on Clancy Pendergast in that I don't know that he can do more with less. Although he has a great college resume, he's been at schools with recruiting advantages and the higher caliber athlete you find at USC. I don't think he would be able to do more with the athlete of norm you will find at WSU. Look at his NFL resume where everyone in general is a great athlete.

I keep thinking CML has tapped a position coach on a staff in the NFL playoffs or on the OSU/UO staff.

How about this guy?

Klieman

I don't know but my knee-jerk reaction to Klieman is… Can't we find someone with more D1 experience? With CML's hire, my bar has been set a bit higher, I guess. Personally, I was a little deflated with the Breske hire. I don't know that I expect Urban Myer to come on board after the big game (sarcasm alert… I don't know that I expect a "splash" hire) but I do expect more D1 experience than the guy we ditched. JMHO.

I hear you Coug95 - but I just don't think you're going to get someone with DC experience that is an "up and coming" special talent. Those guys get scooped up quickly by the storied conference (read SEC here) or power programs. Klieman may be a stretch - he doesn't have FBS experience, but what has NDSU done against FBS teams the last few years? I know it's one game a season, but he's game planned for FBS talent and won with an FCS team - not just once (like Appalachian St) but several times. That's remarkable in itself.

I would agree too. However, at least NDSU is a powerhouse and plays good, fundamental football. If we can't get the "splash" like we all hoped for, I think we would be on board with someone who coaches well. I haven't watched a lot of NDSU, but probably could do a lot worse.

Klieman has waited a long time to finally become a head coach, following Craig Bohl's move to Wyoming. Perhaps he'd make a great deal more $$$ being a D-1 coordinator, but being a head coach for a FCS powerhouse going after their 4th straight national championship is a pretty good job....and I honestly don't think he'd leave after just one year on the job unless it was to do what Bohl did....become a D-1 head coach.

By the way, wasn't Breske once a DC at NDSU?

During the 2009 season, yes.

Did a little research - Breske did a one year stint as DS at NDSU in 2009....nice memory.

Personally, I don't think Leach feels a sense to rush to make the hire.

He's focused on recruiting and maintaining this class.

I think he knows what he's looking for and is waiting to find a guy that truly wants to work with him in Pullman.

I agree with this. He wants to find what he believes is the right fit and is taking his time. He may have offered the job to other and was turned down. He may have interviewed others and decided against making an offer. He may have been waiting for a few coaches that have only recently become available.

What has been funny to me is to read the meltdown with people on here, BX and BY.
