He is a 6'5 175 SF from Cal HS ,He is also being recruited by ASU. Interestingly, he was at the game when the cougs handed the Sun Devils their behinds at home.He is having a breakout senior season and is now being heavily recruited. He has a younger ,brother, who is a junior who is also a D 1 prospect.

Picking up 2 high school kids that can play is a must this spring. Especially a big.

One of the" bigs" targeted is Malik Ondigo a 6'10 recruit out of prep school. He has a lot of offers from many P5 conferences.

Speaking of recruits named Davante, juco 2017 signee Davante Cooper is not impressing at all.
Since Christmas when they stopped playing lower level jucos and tiny college JV opponents, Cooper, as a starter, has only been averaging about 4 points and 4 rebounds per game.
Ya'd like to think a kid who is gonna play in the Pac-12 can put up better numbers than that since the opposition gets a whole lot better. And not much room for development either, as he's done a couple years of prep school, already played a year at DI, now has an extra year of juco at a top caliber junior college. He's already over 22 years old, if he was gonna show signs of development, I think we'd have seen a flash by now.

Not too excited about Cooper as a scoring threat. Ideally he is a one eighty from Clifford. If we can get some post defense from him we should be able to put some legit shooters on the floor next season. I dont look for Cooper to be a starter. I am guessing we might go smaller with Pollard Franks and Chidum in the rotation.

I believe that Cooper does start. If not, look for at least 20 minutes per game in the rotation.

If he starts he would have to at least double his production from the JC level. If his stats are so mediocre against JC talent I can't imagine he would fare better against D-1 competition let alone PAC 12 competition. Franks has potential but I'm not completely sold that he is ever going to be more than a backup/ role player. I like what I see from Pollard considering he is dealing with the effects of mono, I feel he could have a breakout year next year and develope into the primary starter. I know Kent is partial to overhyping players but I'm hoping that's not the case with Chidum.

Cooper is an interesting recruit. He has been recruited by P5 teams in high school and at JC, but was never rated that high. In high school known for good touch and soft hands. At Bradley his shoot percentage was ok, but at Tyler its terrible. His ppg at Tyler is too low, but his rebounds and blocks % looks ok. Love his size. At this point he looks a lot like an older bigger Pollard to me. In fact they have similar freshman year stats.

The team next year will look very different. How effective they will be is a matter of conjecture. I believe that they will be a better defensive team and have more potential scorers. If that translates into a better record remains to be seen.

Four of our top five producers will be gone, two of which will be the last hold overs from the past regime. I would be lying if I said WSU hasn't exceeded my expectations in PAC 12 play but I would also being lying if I said I wasn't very worried about next year.

I thonk a lot depends on Franks continued development next season. I know he is skready a soph but I keep seeing glimpses of things that suggest a huge upside still remaining. Maybe it is just a tease and he never develops, but no harm in being optimistic. As for Chidum, I have only seen him in warmups. The image I get is a very smooth player with a nice shooting touch. Certainly less evidence of upside that for Franks, but still better than seeing a big with no apparent skills other than size

Franks still needs to get in better shape but does show glimpses of upside. Chidom is intriguing. I wonder if he ends up more of a 3 though.

The harm in being optimistic is: one becomes enamored with the idea which foments the optimism, takes it to heart, embraces its sultriness, then suffers the ignominous despair of unrequited expectations. A less painful avenue is to expect the worst and celebrate the victories, however minute.

My optimism is always tempered by the reality thst I am speaking in relative terms. As a person who has followed WSU hoops for fifty years and multiple coaches I realize that we can never have the depth of talent to compete with the top 2 or 3 teams in the league. For example Tony Bennett was probably the best hoops coach we have ever had, and he along with his dad grabbed the brass ring in recruiting that one great class. Yet that great group was out classed by both UCLA and Stanford in the sweet 16 season.
