Been saying this for a while…. The Church of the Right Way can eat nutz.
Coaches leave, that's our history. He stepped into a tough situation that only become a bigger challenge over time. I was in the minority with family and friends in that he always came off to me a bit like "Russell Wilson" if that makes sense. He just seemed full of smoke and comments coming out from players seem to confirm it at least a bit.
Taking off before the Bowl game is unforgivable. Still, for some reason I don't have a lot emotion for this coach other than I know the alternative is probably Kent level hire for football.

In all honesty, is there anything else that he could have said back then?
I don't think he was planning on leaving but when you look at the fact that our fans didn't show up to see our 7-1 football team play Utah State, 75% of our fans default response on funding is "I don't have extra money right now", and we are obviously competing with one hand behind our back....can you blame him for taking an opportunity that came up?
More so if the rumors about pay cut discussions are true. For me, Dickert is just another guy who moved on and I no longer care how he fares moving ahead. I'm not mad at him but I won't root for him.
I agree that he came off as cheesy and politically correct, like Wilson. It would have been nice to see him just lose his mind Leach style once or twice to prove he's human and not a robot. Oh, well.
Definitely don't need/want a presser from him addressing Cougar nation chock full of platitudes.

To be fair to Dickert, it's not like Schulz or the BoR is showing they also want to be at WSU. They've mailed it in far too long.

John Currie is the AD who turned Tennessee into a CRAP FEST.
First he failed to get Mike Leach.
Then Tennessee was horrible under his watch as AD.
Then he ended up at Wake Forest, and then did bad at Wake Forest. No wonder Wake Forest took Dickert, as John Currie blows everything, and has been trying to hire WSU Head Coaches, Assistant coaches for years.
Looks like he finally succeed at hiring a WSU coach.
So Dickert takes a LATERAL JOB that LATERAL to WSU where he will win 4,5,6,7 games a season, until he is fired in 2,3,4 years.
So that finally explains everything.

If he would have pulled the trigger 10 days earlier or later, I’d have nothing but good luck messages for him. Instead he bled the clock, let guys like Eck, Mendenhall, Harsin get hired up, slow played our coordinators, then fled before the bowl game. There wasn’t really a worse time for all the things going on. Then he just started posting pictures in a private jet taking off. They even logged flight plans non privately lol. It was like he wanted to say **** you.

My guess like Tony Bennett , My Dick Herts had his agent looking around the last two years. Not sure things come together in one day without having the ground worked laid days or weeks ago.
This was not the job he signed up for, and it was clearly wearing on him. Do I think he takes off if Mateer came back. Probably not. But for sure crystalized the decision he made for himself.
He was turning into Doba. When things started going bad for Doba then for My Dick Herts they didnt have the answers that come with many coaching stops and prior head coaching experience.

I’ve always, for the most part thought coach D was ok. But his timing totally screwed WSU. Would it have killed him to wait until the day after the bowl game?
The difference between Dickert and Tony is that Tony never went on record as saying he had a 10 year plan to stay in Pullman.

While we as fans have the same issues with our administration as he did, he has a reputation to he should be trying to maintain as someone who is professional. How bad was the falling out with Anne and Kirk? Not that it matters, he's still a dick, but man...
I don't think I have ever heard or seen a WSU coach in any sport ridicule and trash our school like he is doing. 5 years ago, he was an assistant at Wyoming making $250K/year. Up from $150K the year before.
I have a feeling in the coming days there will be players and parents who start swinging back.
There's already some of that surfacing.
