Strange as we seem to have a full roster, but Williams would give us another big man. Wonder if this means someone else is headed elsewhere.

He was a top 100 recruit in high school (No. 64 on ESPN's list). Played in 46 games at Illinois before transferring to GW.

If I'm finding the correct DJ Williams he's a wing or pg. Looks like a grad transfer.

He averaged double digit points last year at GW. Would be a decent get but in order to get him we'd need to have another open spot.

Yep I think you are right. Also CougCenter seems to think so. But he is still on the roster, yet still in the Transfer Portal.

A poster on brandx posted seeing Ali in Pullman and Ali giving him the thumbs up he was coming back. So basically "confirm" seems to be a bit fluid. He still shows as ? on brandx so in the transfer portal.

I had stopped looking at Rothstein and Goodman but will start looking again.

I'm not used to all the visits but I'm liking it.

Cannon and Ali still listed in the transfer portal by the organization which reported their return. I figure an intern is behind on the data entry.

Heres the thing:

If DJ Williams is either a 1, a 2, a 4, a 5, and NOT a 3 at the already LOGJAMMED 3 position at WSU, And if he is better then Ali, which he probably is, then could get him, instead of Ali.

Also if DJ Williams wants to play at WSU.

After all, Ali:

Entered into the transfer portal.

Seems like he didnt want to play at WSU, why he entered into transfer portal

Seems like has attitude problems

Seems like not willing to work his but off.

Seems like not want to, not able to, etc, play defense.

Too Small

Slow Release

DJ:

Seems like wants to play at WSU

Seems like he a good fit for WSU, Smith

Seems like he is better then Ali

So if Smith, which would rather have, Ali or DJ Williams?

I would want DJ Williams over Ali, and since Ali is still technically in transfer portal, would give Ali's scholarship to DJ Williams.

Also not sure if Rapp has signed, but if Rapp doesnt sign soon, I might say to Rapp, "Sign now, or offer, scholarship goes to DJ Williams".

Or if he Rapp cant sign yet, because maybe not signing time yet, then I contact Rapp, asap, tell him sorry, but his offer getting pulled, given to DJ Williams.

To those who have a problem with that:

How many times has a recruit committed to WSU, then at the last second, left WSU hanging, decommited to WSU, committed sign with some other college, left WSU scrambling for a replacement.

If recruits can do that to WSU, WSU can do that to recruits.

So because of that Rapp's offer, could be pulled, given to DJ Williams.

Also maybe DJ williams could Blue Shirt, Greyshirt, Redshirt, so that would count against next years scholarships, and NOT this year's scholarships.

If UW, Gonzaga, Duke, etc, were in WSU's shoes, and had a recruit they wanted(DJ Williams), and if that recruit wanted to commit, sign(Lets say DJ wants to commit, sign with WSU) to UW, Gonzaga, Duke, they would find any legal way, do whatever they had to do(legally speaking), to get them, even if they had to give a player who entered transfer portal, scholarship to the player they wanted, even if they had to give a Rapp's offer to the player they wanted.

I think WSU, Smith gets DJ Williams. But even if he doesnt, Smith is STILL doing freaking awesome recruiting.

But hey Smith cant recruit according to he who shall not be named, lol.

He is only getting players no one else really wants.Tthey a basically two stars with few other offers. that is not awesome recruiting. The only new player who may start is James. Ali will be the starting PG next year.

Since we have 4 returning starters counting Ali, it is probably not exactly rocket science that they have the inside track to start. We had a lot of spots to fill, and the new comers appear to have upside. Certainly better than Kent the "recruiter" was able to do when he filled 4 spots his first season.

I wonder if Ali starts. I am thinking he doesn't play defense well enough to be the starter. I think it will be Bonton that starts and Ali comes off the bench for a change of pace and instant offense. I could also see Robinson pass him by, as what Smith values in a player is much different than what Kent valued in a player.

Wrong.

Bonton: 3 star: JC transfer: HIGH POTENTIAL, UPSIDE. Lots of P5, Mid Major interest, and a couple, few, some P5, Mid Major Offers

Henson: Low end 3 star. Some services have him as 2 star, some have as 3 star. High Potential, Upside, AFTER, IF he develops.
Had a little interest from Mid Majors, a couple, few offers from Mid Majors

Noah Williams: A semi high end 3 STAR, 3 Star by some services, a low end 4 star by some services. NBA Bloodlines. VERY HIGH POTENTIAL, UPSIDE. LOTS OF INTEREST, a couple, few, some offers by Mid Majors, P5

James: 3 star Grad Transfer. Lots of interest, a couple, few, some offers from Mid Majors, P5

Rodman: a HIGHEST ENDED 2 STAR, Lowest ended 3 star, 2 star by some services, 3 star by some services. VERY HIGH POTENTIAL, UPSIDE, NBA BLOODLINES. LOTS OF INTEREST, a couple, few offers from Mid Major

IF WSU gets DJ Williams(Good Chance WSU does): Was a ESPN Top, BEST 100 IN NATION in highschool. Was a HIGH END 4 STAR, LOW END 5 STAR in highschool. 4 star by some services, 5 star by some services. 3 star by some services. A High End 3 star, Low End 4 star Transfer. EXTREMELY HIGH POTENTIAL, UPSIDE. Lots of interest, Lots of offers from Mid Major, P5.

Markovetsky:

A OLYMPIC, OLYMPIAN(U20). 3 STAR. HIGH POTENTIAL, UPSIDE. LOTS OF INTEREST. a couple, few, offers from Mid Major, P5.

Only Rapp is a 2 star, Project, Redshirt candidate.

So your wrong, and your downplaying, an or maybe even lying about these recruits.

You keep on saying things like: "Oh they are just, only trash 2 stars"(Paraphrasing)

Thats wrong, and maybe even lying.

They are not regular Semi Trash 2 stars.

Some recruiting services might have a couple, few of them, Rapp, Rodman, etc, as HIGHEST ENDED 2 STARS

But some recruiting services have them as low end 3 stars

Also there is a difference between high end highest ended 2 stars, and regular 2 stars

And thats just 1,2, of them, and maybe even a 3rd at most

The rest range from highest ended ever 2 stars to low end 3 stars, to low end 4 stars, 3 star to high end 3 star on average

And most of them have high potential, upside, athletic, skills, talented, have interest, offers from Mid Majors, P5

And they are a good fit for, meet needs.

So because of that, all of the above. Smith is a good recruiter, good evaluator.

Especially considering the Shetstorm mess he Smith came into, inherited from Kent

So you can stop wrongly downplaying Smith, his recruiting, his recruits. You can stop being WRONG. You can stop lying, since your maybe even lying, if your lying

So like I RIGHTLY, LOGICALLY have said before Smith is doing a awesome job recruiting

You can call the blue sky red all you want, but that wont make it red, instead of blue.

You can say Smith is a bad recruiter, but that wont change that Smith has done a good job recruiting.

You can be like Baghdad Bob, that kept on saying That Saddam would win, with, while USA troops, soldiers were making goofy bunny ears behind his head.

Also your the only one who say what your saying.

NOBODY AGREES WITH YOU.

Even fans, others have come to this board, to post info about, that show how good the recruits are

And they disagree wirh you as well.

Man, Mikalalas blew ur buttzky out of d'water. Good job!

Yes I did that, but what good it would, will do as it probably wont do any good, as he probably will be delusionally, brainwashedly like chanting: "Kent is, was BEST", "Smith Sucks, Worst Ever", " Smith a terrible recruiter", "Smith's Recruits are TRASH", etc, even until, after he is on his deathbed, chanting that on deathbed, far, long after WSU, Smith, Smith's recruits have succeeded, etc.

Also Smith is in, on, has offered 5 star Beach HS recruit Mar Jon Beauchamp, who hasnt signed, hasnt committed to anybody, who is scheduled, says gona visit WSU via either, unofficial, official visit.

Now not even a ok chance he commits, signs with WSU. But he is still technically in on, has offered, a visit, etc, and still a chance that could possibly, theoretically commit, sign with WSU.

So can, could technically add 5 star Mar Jon to DJ Williams, to Smith's list.

Also there is 6 ft, 7.5 in, 236 pound, 3 star recruit Nathan, that has commited 2 years early to WSU.

Yet another reason Smith has done awesomely.

All complete nonsense just as Kemp was a slam dunk recruit. Just as your favorite PG was a NBA player a few years ago. Boynton cannot play .That is why the cougs were the only one to offer him poor defense and other shortcomings is why he was not recruited.by good D 1 schools.

Kemp was, is a SLAM DUNK recruit as far as commiting to WSU. The only reason why Kemp would not be at WSU, was the last 2 spots being filled by even better players.

And thats what happened. The last 2 spots are filled by, will be filled by better players then Kemp, leaving no spot for Kemp.

Had there been a spot, Kemp would have chosen WSU, and that is what I meant when I said that Kemp, and Noah williams both were pretty much, almost, practically Slam Dunks to choose WSU.

As for Isabell, a PG, He was a highest ended 4 star, low ended 5 star(by recruiting services)(Which didnt make sense because: )

1. Isabell had beaten NBA players. If your good enough to do that, you are, should be a 5 star.

2. Isabell played in the Summer D(Stands for development) league sponsored by NBA(This is a summer development league that the NBA uses to mentor, develop NBA prospects, 5 stars, etc)

3. Isabell DOMINATED the BEST AAU competition, like the OAKLAND SOLDIERS

4. ISABELL HAD SO MANY AWARDS, ACCOLADES, Highschool, AAU All Star, West Vs East, Senior Bowl like appearances, etc

5. One of those was sponsored by ex sonics NBA guard Gary Payton.

6. Isabell was ranked in the top 25 to top 50 to top 100, depending on the recruiting service

7. Isabell was nominated to be a highschool All American.

7. Isabell was a honorable mention semi all american.

8. Isabell frequently scored 20, 25,30,35,40,45 points against the BEST AAU, highschool competition, and even against NBA players

9. Isabell DOMINATED PRO AM JAMS, sponsored by NBA players.

10. Isabell was mentored by NBA players.

Now its reasonable, logical, rational, to look at all that and think Isabell would be a great College basketball player and a NBA prospect that would, could play in NBA.

So why didnt he do that:

1. He was semi almost semi Lazy, didnt work as hard as he could have.

2. He had a bad attitude at times.

3. He was horrible academically, struggled to qualify, had to be tutored, and almost didnt make it into college, and once in college, struggled to stay in college academically, so that he could play college basketball and continue to develop.

4. He pissed away his potential.

He was kicked off the team by Kent.

He transfered multiple times.

He eventually produced about 20 to 25 points per game at the Mid Major Level

So FINALLY ended up a semi good, semi successful college bball player.

So I should have been right about Isabell. And I have no controll over, if a player like Mayo, Isabell, etc.pisses away their potential.

But even tho I was wrong about that thru no fault of my own, that doesnt mean I am wrong now.

And I go by logic, reason, facts, etc, which can still end up being wrong from time to time.

So just because I was wrong then, does not mean I am wrong now.

And I am not wrong now.

You are not right over all of us here.

LMAO at you saying Bonton cant play.

And he Bonton did get a couple, few, semi some offers, etc.

Your just again, wrong, downplaying, etc, like you usually do.

I wont believe that Bonton had only 1, no offers, as a 3 star, JC transfer, that scored about 20+ ppg at the JC level, until either you or somebody else proves it.

I remember BONTON getting a LOT of interest, or at least some interest, and at least 2,3,4 offers.

I may be misremembering, but I doubt it.

In any case, tho, even if he had no offers, he Bonton is still a 3 star JC transfer, with HIGH POTENTIAL and UPSIDE.

And when Kent was interested in Bonton, but couldnt get any interest back from Bonton, you were also interested, when Kent was interested.

But now that Kent is gone, Bonton is no longer good because Kent gone, because Bonton was interested in Smith, but not in Kent.

Bet he can out shoot Dunbar, Redding and Davis . Smith may not be bringing in top tier recruits but at least he he is getting in the front door esrly on.

Kent's first class provided nothing. Good kids but other than Redding they weren't D-1 players and I believe after leaving Redding walked on at Wyoming. I'm not worried about Smith's recruiting at all. We missed on players but over the next couple of years I think he will start winning some of those battles. It's going to take time but he has time. I think he's done a good job this spring.

Who is Boynton?

If I am reading this right it seems that Smith is attracting interest from more players with potential than we have room for. One hell of a change from previous days when a warm body who knew the rules was acceptable. Do not know- and who does?- whether these recruits will pan out but it looks promising and I like it.

When is the last time that there has been this much traffic on the basketball board? Except for one person, we all are more interested now than we were a few months ago.

If you are referring to ElC, he is more interested too, just in a negative sense. He was happy and contented with the previous regime which struggled and was sure to continue to do so. Now that we are out of those woods and showing the possibility of having a winner for a change he has to stay busy watching signs of progress and belittling same.

You are spot on regarding the increased traffic here. Previously the board reflected the ennui of the majority of Cougs. The Cougs' BB program is showing potential signs of life and so is the internet traffic.

We do not yet know if Smith can turn the program around but he has certainly and quickly turned the recruiting around. If this turnaround can be repeated on the court we may be in for a nice ride. Like Leach did with the football team? Fingers crossed.

The growing apathy and irrelevance of Cougar basketball was much more concerning to me than the poor record under the previous regime, even though it was a byproduct of the generally poor play. You are right– there is no guarantee Smith will have success...but at least he provides hope and a spark of excitement. And I wouldn't bet against him vastly improving the competitiveness of this team. He already seems to be much more active and strategic in recruiting than what we are used to the past 5 years. I'm excited.

Glad Cougar

Smith has some similarities to Dick and Tony. Built competitive programs that hadn't had much recent winning tradition where there was a need to project players like Dick did most of his career. Seems good at connecting with players similar to Tony. No guarantee for success but a good mix and fit for us.
