The risk for kids who sign early is that hiring season is after the signing period.

No. They can use the portal after they get to campus if Pac-12 football is not for them.

They will make them at least talk with the new coaching staff in full before they consider anything

Absolutely release anyone that wants it. It would really cripple future recruiting if we don’t.

Because it it pretty common practice these days to release kids in a situation like this. If they don’t every single future recruit will be told by other teams that if you sign with WSU they think they own you. And will be stuck there even if the head coach that recruited you leaves or is fired.

And I'd also explicitly make a public comment of "We are not releasing any of our signed and committed incoming student-athletes" so that the other vultures around out there don't start speed dialing our guys. Doing so would be a recruiting violation.

Then I'd make it a priority for the new coach to watch their film and meet in person with them. If both parties see a fit, so be it. If either is wavering, give them the option of rescinding their LOI.

But to just turn them loose right now puts the new coach essentially a whole recruiting cycle behind. WSU just wasted a bunch of time and money for nothing.

Can you name a school that's done it in football? I can't.

It is my understanding most every school has been releasing kids under these circumstances when coach is gone right after signing?

Name one. I've never heard of a school opening up their whole recruiting class. That's volunteering for failure.

Basketball is different.

You grant the kids the option to release after they have met the new coach. Let them meet the staff first, they were sold on the air raid and throwing the ball, if that's still the objective with the new staff, why leave? You committed to a school and a football concept, if both those are the same and only the coach changes, and you like the new coach, why not give it a shot. You can always transfer in another year, I know it sucks for the kids, as I am sure many are wondering what the hell is going on. They say football teaches you a lot of life's lessons, your are experiencing one right now, the President of the company you work for and like, just quit, now what. Give the new guy a chance, you might even like him better, if not take your time and find another job, don't make any hasty decisions.
