Our draw plays have been on fire....even against Oregon they worked

We finally got to the run vertically and throw vertically offense I have been calling for...albeit via a draw instead of straight north south.

Could you imagine if we had this draw play during the Leach years? That offense would have been literally unstoppable.

I do wish they would stop running McIntosh laterally...but hopefully they will watch film on that and see that sh!r doesn't work.

On a other note, I think I saw the only play this season where the kids took a play off...and that was UA's TD where Watson played Matador....but I had zero problem with it.

I ddn't want anyone to get hurt. I think it's a testament to these coaches and kids that they haven't taken any plays off this year.(maybe the kickoff return against Oregon)

This team will definitely go down as one of my favorites of all time.

Agreed on the td play by UA. Three guys had a chance to stop him inside the 5 and they all gave half assed effort.

I think they've done a good job of calling the draw at the right time as well. That's obviously half the battle for a draw to work.

That draw will be there all day long now if we continue to throw vertically imo.

I think that is one of the main differences between the Run and Shoot and Air Raid...at least at a surface level.

It probably needs to be said Dickert has leaned into the leadership and culture . Mike Leach has to be praised for developing such a mental toughness that Dickert has tapped into . He didn’t have to show what mental toughness and what it takes to win, but he didn’t do anything to give the kids doubt .

This team has really impressed me .

I don’t want to start another JDL fanboy debate here, as I fully recognize his shortcomings and areas he needs to improve in.

With that said, I think he’s absolutely fantastic at “selling” plays, something so many QBs do poorly. His fundamentals on scripted plays like draws, option pitches, play action timing throws and wheel routes are superb. Where he gets in trouble are the situations where he drops back and improvises; especially throwing on the run.

If I’m Dickert, my interview plan would be to bring in an offensive coordinator with a QB coaching background and a system that is more scripted. If JDL learns and incorporates more read/option where he keeps the ball occasionally and runs and slides on his rollouts, he’ll be hard to contain.

I thought he was excellent on the option for the score in the Oregon game and the pitch to Borghi last night.

That have really improved on our goal line offense as the season has progressed.

I would still like to keep the run and shoot. I think it is a good offense...it just takes time to coach it up which is why it has gone the way of the dinosaur....but I think where we are now is a good place to build upon...even with the exodus of talent.

Tough thing is the coaching pool, though, or the lack thereof. I don't think Smith is up to the task, and while I appreciate what these stopgap replacements are doing, they aren't up to permanent status.

Draw plays have their time and place, but as successful as they were last night we've also seen multiple times that they have failed. That being said, I'm not sure why we don't have an audible to punch it up the gut any and every time JDL sees a light front; it would more than likely be a positive yardage play and it would suck the defense up and open up the downfield passing lanes.
