It appears Oregon's Def Coordinator Andy Avalos is headed back to Boise to be the main guy. Avalos was an all Conf LB for the Donkey's.

Oregon wouldn't come fishing again in the WSU coaches pond for Dickert........Could they ?????

Likely too soon to tell on Dickert. If Ken Wilson is Oregon DC caliber, he'll get his shot.

This isn't a knock on you ttowncoug, but i'll never understand the high opinion many Cougs have for Ken Wilson. Our LB group was poor before he got here, poor during his stay, and poor afterwards. You could argue that Peyton Pelluer did more for that group vs. Wilson.

Yes, Wilson had below average to semi average LB corps at best.

BUT Wilson did have 1,2,3 good LB like Peyton Pelluer.

BUT its not Wilson's LB corp, or LB's that gets him recognized.

Its his awesome recruiting.

And before you say that he didnt recruit good LB's:

He did recruit good LB's, its just that he was a semi bad to semi beliw average LB coach.

He didnt develop, he didnt coach up well.

So what did he do well that he gets recognized for?

He recruited good for both the offense, and defense at other positions, in a random, sporadic way.

He was in on recruitment of QB's, WR's, RB's, DB's, and did a good job doing.

Thats why Oregon, and other colleges wanted him.

They wanted Wilson's recruiting ability.

Will really shouldnt be a LB or defensive assistant coach.

He should be a recruiting specialist, scout, recruiting coordinator, etc.

He was a good recruiter and the unit wasn't terrible under his watch. The year Pelluer got hurt he held the D together with a ton of freshman. He wasn't without his flaws, but I think he was at least above average. Certainly better than Roc.

I thought Wilson's greatest strengths were recruiting and chemistry with the rest of the staff. There is an art to keeping a staff productively moving in one direction. Wilson appeared to be a real asset in that regard. His ability to coach individual players seemed to be a weak point. I have no idea how good he is with strategy (as opposed to tactics). If he is a good strategic mind, the rest of his skill set would work in a DC position. If he lacks that strategic view, then he should not be a coordinator.

Please list his LB recruiting

Cause our depth over the last 6 yrs was Walk-Ons at the position he coached.

I was hoping they would follow Leach and go after defensive coach from Miss. State ;)

C`Mon, Mik...was it one linebacker like Pelluer, two like him or... was it three like him??? That's all I have to say about that

Leach thought Wilson was his best recruiter. And Wilson wasn’t in charge of solely recruiting linebackers . He was in charge of an area not a position.

Again

If he was the best recruiter, why were his position so neglected.

And please share with me where Leach said this.

Provide a link .... ?

Thanks NMLS

Because as I said before:

1. He didnt coach well

A. He didnt DEVELOP well

B. He didnt coach up well.

2. He recruited QB's, WR's, RB's, DB's, etc, good. That's probably why he might probably have semi neglected the LB.

3. He should be a SCOUT, RECRUITING SPECIALIST, RECRUITING COORDINATOR

4. HE SHOULD NOT BE A LB COACH, DC, HC.

Amazing how this great recruiting wizard wasn’t able to recruit the position he actually coached. WSU hasn’t had a LB drafted since 2002. Yet this great coach & recruiter never could build depth or an adequate rotation at his own position & had to backfilled it with Walk-Ons.

Save it. Our LBs have killed us for years

Not sure if Leach ever called Wilson his best recruiter but as I've said Pelluer and Woods were pretty good. His LB's had a habit of moving to the edge as well. For all the grief the LB core gets, it was never bad while he was here and it immediately fell off a cliff once he left for Oregon.

Decent players he brought in at LB. Peyton Pelluer, Jahad Woods, Ivan McClennan, Dylan Hanser, Frankie Luvu, Suli Tamaivena (who didn't qualify but had two good years at Utah St), Fa'avae Fa'avae, Dom Silvels, Willie Taylor, Kendrick Catis (who transferred after early enrolling because they had so much depth. He started two seasons at Murray St), and Kedron Williams (played Nickel would have grown into a ILB had a concussion not ended his career early) and finally Travion Brown. The reliance on Dillon Sherman and Justus Rogers always seemed to me more a product of a coaching staff feeling other positions were more important so they converted the more athletic LB type bodies into either nickels or Rushs. I put that more on the speed D concept than on any individual position coach.

Pelleur was good in his 7th and 8th years. I’d credit his success more with development than recruiting. Early on his instincts weren’t making up for his lack of speed.
