Dump arbuckle

I think you can throw that out the window after the last game. We aren’t talking about “plays” a whole half of football + didn’t work. Against a bad football team. And it was the latest example in a string of them this year.
This is what I mean about people complaining about plays that don't work.

And for God's sake... it's better to roll outward and run wide when the house is clogged.

Bust the gut when the line is split.

I swear we were going the rush attempts back-asswards
They've tried running against a light box all year and for the most part have been unsuccessful.

Leaf nailed it when he said "the OL isn't getting to the second level." This 100% is what's going on for the Cougs OL.

This team played like they KNEW it was their last game together and everyone just wanted it to be over.

The game was lost before the teams even took the field, in my opinion

Well, you said you weren’t “content” being shut out in the second half against Wyoming. Would you agree if the play calling was ok we probably can scrounge up a field goal and at least win the game? Sometimes it seems like you are arguing against yourself.

Damn near same thing against NM. We scored one TD in what, 6 second half possessions against a undermanned defense. Sometimes it seems like you are arguing against yourself.

"Better play calling" is all fine and well. What happens when say Hutson drops a big gain or maybe a TD, the OL craps their collective pants, Mateer for reasons unknown scrambles up to the LOS then dances around and fires a dirtball instead of just tucking and running like half a dozen times in one half, somebody draws a flag, etc.? Are those bad play calls?

We were 22nd in total offense, 12th in scoring offense, 30th in redzone offense. That's with a first year starter at QB and mediocre OL. That tells me the play calls were nowhere near as bad as you claim them to be. As I have said, my criticism of the offense is that there needs to be more production from routine plays. But, I'm not here win or loss whining like crazy. And you're nuts if you think Arbuckle should be fired.

I’ll add one to your list, Mateer pussyfoots around a DB on 4th down near the marker instead of putting his shoulder into him like he’s done every other play of the game. Second time this happened (fortunately we got the spot on the half slide in a previous game). Is that Mateer being a dumbass or coaching/lack thereof? Probably a bit of both. FWIW if he just puts his shoulder down on that 4th down against Wyoming we probably win by two scores and may not be having this conversation.

For me, it’s the inconsistency in multiple games. In particular the NM game and the head scratching start to the second half, which I’ll stand by my previous assertion that Arbuckle was play calling for Mateer to go off for 500 yards and 7 TDs to get him into the Heisman race instead of mixing it up with Parker and grinding out first downs. And the offense stalling out is why we lost that game.

And what happened on Saturday against Wyoming is unforgivable. But I think Arbuckle may be checked out anyways if he knows he’s jumping on another opportunity.

Not sure I buy Arbuckle "checking out". Who the hell would want him after the Wyoming game? Oklahoma? Really? I guess if he brings Mateer with him, which is doubtful.

Are you evaluating the season, or each individual play? If you want to go play by play, I suggest grading him like a player. Plus or minus each play, and tally it up and tell the score. Go for it if that's what you want to do.

The stats above tell me what I need to know. I'm quite happy for Arbuckle to return. I'd rather have Arbuckle than any OC we faced this season, even with our god awful defense making them look like world beaters.

I don't think Arbuckle's offense at WSU is likely to get him promoted. The system he was running at W. Kentucky looked pretty good, but that system never materialized here. And, let's be honest...he had a year with a QB that was apparently Heisman material, and managed to be mediocre.

There’s a lot of smoke right now, started with Oklahoma, but the latest is Utah.

Stats are overrated. Points and wins matter. We lost 3 games we shouldn’t have and the offense spent big chunks of each of those games tripping over their own dicks. I suppose you can give credit for the offense continuing to get into the end zone against SJS too to be fair.

Points, pretty good since we were 12th in the country at 36.8 points per game. Please explain what's wrong with that. Wins, sure 8 seems a little disappointing with a three game losing streak, but we had one crap fest against Wyoming.

Please tell me an offense in the history of our school that meets whatever consistency metric you consider acceptable. Especially with a first year starter at QB and a mediocre OL. I really want to know what offense you wouldn't complain about. I assume this mythical offense scored every possession, or whatever your magic metric is. I don't think such an offense exists. But let's see.
